This might be a silly question, but I know how you can just copy the WoW folder on your C drive to another computer and run it from there to save time with the installing CD, and patching. But is it possible to copy the WoW folder from a computer with XP to one with vista?

I'm guess I have to install everything the old fashioned way, but just wanted to make sure.

Im really not sure, but I was able to play WoW from my vista partition when it was installed in XP. So, I think its feasible.

You can copy all of your addons and saved variables from a few different folders over to the other computer and it should work.

It is possible. I have managed to do the same using an external drive between computers recently. Though if it is XP to Vista, it may set off some security warnings, hoops for you to have to jump through to actually use the thing. Vista to XP is flawless however.

Thanks for the reply, works perfectly so far. Expect it keeps on telling me that I need to have the most current version of DX installed which I do. Other than that its great!

Thanks again, but sadly I've seem to run into a hitch. For some reason, the WoW video and audio settings never get saved. Whenever I exit WoW it reverts to the setting I had on the other computer which I copied the game from...

any help would be apreciated.

Delete the WTF and the WTB folders, and try again.

It has to do with the funky permissions that Vista has.. I upgraded to Vista on Thursday, and NONE of my mods/settings have saved since.

Evidently, the folders/files become Read Only by default, and you have to manually select the files within a folder to un-Read Only them. The permission change doesn't filter down like it should.

There's a 'workaround' at microsoft that involves dropping to a dos prompt and using the attrib command.

Can't seem to find it at the moment tho. :(
