strange lag

Last week I was playing, and went to under city. When I tried taking the elevator down I got disconnected. Came back and the guards and elevator doors were gone. And the place looked pretty much like a desert. Then I got disconnected again. When I logged on again some 10 seconds later I was near the sun rock retreat. Today the same thing happened again. I was fighting a couple of monsters off booty bay, got disconnected and when I logged back on again I was in town. Yet I had the ring I had just found. So I was wondering if this is simply lag. Because I'm rather clueless how I could have an item found at a place that, according to the server I wasnt on at the time.
