View Full Version : LW for the epic set

I'm currently leveling LW for my rogue (64 now) towards 375, because of the epic set. On the official forums people are whining about the rogue/druid set being weak compared to other (tailoring), but besides that, I wonder if I should get rid of LW immediately after making the set. It seems such a waste to have a profession you can hardly use for anything.
I thought about getting Herbalism (with the mining I have maxed already). With a flying mount, a little switching for the mining/herbing scanning shouldn't be a problem I'd say. Any ideas?

I do believe you need to actually be a Leatherworker to be able to use the set.
It's an okay set for Rogues, though it's absolutely atrocious for Druids. Biggest problem people have with it is that it just doesn't hold a candle to the Tailoring sets.

So probably when I drop LW Blizzard buffs the set or adds new patterns. I guess I'll wait a little...

Either drop LW now or plan on keeping it for a bit... making the set only to drop it when it costs so much to level seems a waste. And the set (I assume you're talking the Primal Intent set) is a good upgrade from pre-kara or Kara items but requires you to be an elemental LW to equip.
Also, there are other things you can make that are very good... the Boots of Utter Darkness is a BoE pattern that you can see on the AH (though the boots themselves are BoP) and the Cobrascale gloves and hood are good and the items themselves are BoE so you can either make the items and sell them or advertise and just charge for the nether. BTW, I'm speaking from the rogue perspective.. these items may not be that great for a feral druid... No experience there. And I do wish they'd buff the PI set - sockets would be a great addition.

Wait, is there a typo somewhere here? You can't sell BoP items.

(shakes head at self)
Yeah, typo - edited. Thanks for catching that... the Cobrascale Glove and Cobrascale Hood are both BoE.
Actually, that's one of the problems with LW - there's really not a lot you can make and sell that's in demand. The Heavy Clefthoof armor pieces look nice for a tanking druid, but everyone makes them multiple times to get the last 10 or so skill points so they're all over the AH most of the time.
BTW, discovered an excellent site that shows recipes for the various crafts, Crafter's Tome (http://wow.crafterstome.com/recipes/leatherworking.html). You can filter by pattern source, level range and other things. Very helpful if you're wondering about what you can make.

Well I did level it purely to get some epic stuff to catch up for Karazhan. On another server I noticed tailors were way ahead of my priest, so when I went to level an old rogue on a different server, I choose LW because it seemed better then the blue set anyway. (and the guild doing Karazhan already for some time) And tbh, up till 350 it's not expensive, an alt just disenchants all I make (225 enchanter). I think it costed me 200-300g till 350, that's just nothing while leveling, or being a rogue with mining. Ofc it gets a lot worse now, but I can go slow, until I get those Nethers anyway.
Anyway, good point about elemental leatherworking needed, didn't notice. So I'll just keep it until it's either getting better or I get other epiex ;)

In case you don't know about it, Shadowpanther.net (http://shadowpanther.home.comcast.net/) is a great way to compare rogue gear. You can see whether you have a reasonable chance at getting something that's close to the stuff you're thinking of crafting... For me, the Primalstrike Vest and bracers are significant upgrades over my current blues and I'm not likely to get the drops that are better soon, so it was a no brainer.
Oh, and unless you skin, plan on another 1000G or more to move from 350 to 375... I just did that.... sob!

Thanks :)
I don't skin, but I did, and I have a decent stash of stuff (fel hide etc). I'm at 360 or something. The last 10 points will be expensive indeed, with primal stuff (which I get from mining as well). But you can sell the stuff you make anyway.
Compared to Enchanting it's a walk in the park so far ;)
