Hi,

I am wondering if I need to do the shaman quest a level 10?

I don't plan on using fire totems, since I will be enhancment. Mainly using Windfury.

Is it necessary that I do the quest?

Yes.

You will want to have all totems. Even if you don't want to use those totems now (and they add quite a bit of damage) they'll come in handy later on.

If you insist, you can leave it to level 11 or 12, but it's not that much of a hassle.

Not getting your fire totem would be pretty daft. You won't eventually be able to summon a fire elemental, for starters- and that's a nice ability to have. Frost resist totem is also a fire totem, and that's very nice to have, also. The totem quests are pretty easy, and give valuable XP at low levels. Having to go back and get them later will just be silly/annoying :)

Also, note that you shouldn't be using windfury totem just to buff yourself anyway- it's a waste of your air totem. Use the windfury weapon buff- and drop a grace of air totem to increase your agility. Then you'll have windfury *and* more agility.

In summary, you want all the totems anyway. As a rule, you should train everything that the trainer offers you, for any class. Not training skills offered by your class trainer is just going to give you a half-baked shammy.

BTW, there's a shaman-specific forum, you might find it useful:

Have a look, there's a lot of good stuff there.

Agreed, and seconded.

Fire Totems can be dead useful in some situations. While they can be some of the most expensive totems, it's worth it. Searing Totem is nice for a little extra damage, and Fire Nova totem is great for multi-mob situations:
Drop an Angry-Stick (Stoneclaw Totem), then wait a couple of seconds and drop the Fire Nova. While all the other Mob(s) are on the Angry Stick, the Fire Nova blows up and does a lot of damage.

In the end, take all the Totems. Earth, Fire, Water and Wind. Even tho' water's is a pain in the ass, still take it. Your instance groups will love you.

And yes, don't waste your Wind Totem for Windfury buff on your weapon. Use the spell instead. It lasts longer too. (1/2 hour as opposed to 2 minutes.)

get all your totems... if you cant get it at 10, get it at 12... same with the others.
