Hi all, i have a problem and i would like your help..
..i have created ui for a rw friend of mine and would like to transfer to his account on his computer.. Originally we tried just putting all the mods and a disk along with a modified copy of a wtf folder for all the config settings (changed name of the wtf to his characters etc), but when we transfered we found that all he settings were messed up and it deleted/replaced settings on his other characters unintentionally. i would like to know if there is a way i can create a package that will install with minimum effort and configuring at his end (short of me going around to his house and reconfiging everything).

Ideally the package would automatically load the settings i define at my end and install the mods with a minimum of fuss whilst leaving his other characters and global settings alone. As i have had requests from other friends to do similar retrofits this would be increadably useful so any tips/ advice would be gratefully received =D

mmm srry i dont talk in 1337 either =p prolly just made sum typos =p
in the wtf folder there is a layer for the account containing files then there is a folder for each character containing files. I assume all these files have to do with settings for interfaces and mods. My question is do you have to copy both layers or just one or the other??

That won't work unless it's the same account: you need to change the account name and character name folders to match your friend's account and character(s).

You're right about the folder structure, the SavedVariables folder directly inside the account folder is gloval settings for the whole account, those inside the character folders are specific to that character. Mods can use one or both of these places to save settings depending on what the mod does and what the author decided.

I figured that would be common sense..:shocked:

Also, in the Config.wtf, you need to change the name on the SET accountName(line 18) to the account name.

No you don't. That's just the "remembered" name, that is, the name that is auto-filled when you open WoW, if you have the option enabled.

Oh, thought you had to or the author's account name would show up.

It will, so depends whether you want your mate to know your account name or not.

No. Passwords aren't stored client-side. The only copy of your password is an encrypted version on the server itself which is just as secure as it has to be.
