If I want to fight a friend in Battlegrounds do I have to be on the opposing faction to fight him? As in if he's Alliance do I have to be Horde or can I fight him if I'm Alliance as well?

You can only fight horde vs alliance in the BGs. What about both of you jumping into a practise 2v2 arena with a friend? Agree ahead of time which one you're queueing for, should work ok. Failing that, you can duel.

You can only fight the opposing faction in Warsong Gulch, Arathi basin, Alterac Valley, and Eye of the Storm.

You CAN fight alliance vs alliance or horde vs horde in the arenas...which is what moopy was describing.

Or you can just duel each other :)

Or, head to the Gurubashi arena or any arena in outlands. FFA!
