Hi guys,
ive only every played wow once, with a 14 day trial that my mate gave me...but i only went on once.
I was an out and out diablo 2 player so never bothered with this but d2 has got a bit poo and this looks rather cool from what ive seen sooo....
ive ordered the game and the expansion pack and was wondering if any1 can give me an all round explanation of what goes on in the game?
what are the goals?
what kind of characters are there?
whats with all the different realms and whats the difference?
how do you get the good items, you only get them from killing the boss's in the game?

thx, hope you can help

thx, hope you can help :thumbsup:I too played d2 for years before coming to wow. What I like about this game is that is not as repetitive as d2 is. And in here you have lots of different quests to do vs the same boring baal runs over and over again. And you can basicaly equip your char with items you get from questing unlike d2 where, most of the times, the equip that fell even in hell games would do most of the chars no good.

in wow you have druid, hunter, paladin, mage, warrior, priest, shaman, warlock and rogues. then you can chose to either be a horde or alliance. My suggestion to you would be to start a couple of different chars and play them for a bit. This way you have an idea of what they can do. And you can then see which one you like better.

re the goals: I believe it totally depends on what you want to accomplish. Some like pvp better, others prefer to quest.

there's several ways of getting good items. You can do instances, or just quests. You also can get pvp items. What you do is you do battlegrounds to get honor, then trade that for items.

you didnt mention if you mostly played pvp or pvm in d2. But if you mostly did pvm and mf? I would say you ought to choose a pve realm. This way it gives you more time to get used to the game.

Also since you're starting out? It would probably be a good idea to go with gathering professions such as skinning, mining or herbalism. This way you are able to make some gold faster.

i was a hardocre pvp lol ^^
had an mf char as you do but i never made a pvm apart form sorc.
ive had a read around and i think i start out pve untill i get used to it, but then i think i would prefer pvp.
sounds like there alot more to this game compared to others so not gonna get to the board stage like d2.
thx alot :D

I really think that the majority of players who chose PvE servers end up wishing they had their chars on a PvP server...!

I started on PvE.. those toons now sit abandoned before L20, while my PvP ones have reached 70/50/29 etc.

Well many, and in fact the majority based on the number of PVP servers, prefer the PvE realms. Allows PVP when you desire but when you just want to lvl you can do so in relative peace.

Playing on a PvP server = getting ganked over and over again while lvling (which adds excitement, sure, but the boring bits take just as long) in order to be able to gank ppl while they're lvling. Yeah. How do I live without it. If I want world-PvP I go to Halaa, if I want to gank lowbies I go to Hellfire Peninsula, take a base, and hide until a lowbie approaches.

If I ever start on a PvP realm it'll be with enough RL friends to simply do instances from lvl 18 to 70. Might be a bit slow to do Gnomer over and over again until you can enter SM, but then again I don't have any RL friends who (know that I) play WoW.

wat are the good and bad points to each pvp and pve?

PVP

Pro: The psychological thrill of the game is much greater, travelling along roads becomes more dangerous than going cross-country. There is a real adrenaline rush to be had.

Con: The constant threat in contested territories (ie. pretty much anywhere that gives experience 25+) of being killed by a character much higher level than you (aka. "Ganked"), or by someone while you're fighting a mob, or just after you've killed a mob. Most players will use any advantage they can get in PVP, which means making the fight as unfair to you as possible. Some quests become much harder to complete and some instances (eg. Scarlet Monastery) much harder to reach.

PVE

Pro: The game is generally safer so you can pursue the storyline without the threat of being killed by a bored level 70 who happened to spot you. You can choose when to engage in PVP, either in battlegrounds or in the world. There is sometimes co-operation between Alliance and Horde characters.

Con: There is less of an "edge" to the game.

Yes, you can have multiple characters on multiple realms (servers). up to 10 servers or 50 characters (I think).

It is a good idea to start on a PVE first and I leveled a Rogue to 70 on a PVE as well. However, if you have friends or a good guild, I don't think PVE or PVP really matter. So far, I am at lvl 26 and I got killed (ganked) 3 times total by horde so it won't be that bad to lvl 30s.

Contact: kensing, jilla, or healicia if you ever come to our server.

Cheers

You can but it is tricky.

There is a thread floating around about how to get to US servers from UK but I can't find it now.

I won't recommend you to do that because the time zone and the hassle. After all, there are so many wonderful ppl on the UK side too.
