After I spent some time trying difrent unitframe Addons, there is a simple question...

Why do all pre done UI's and so many unitframe addons look loke they belong to an SciFi World an not like they belong to an RPG like WoW?

i feel like i am the only one on earth that likes blizzards frames and how they look.

so i would be very happy if someone could point me to an addon that looks atleast not like SicFi.

(please dont mind my english, I'am not a native speaker)

You'll see that the vast majrity of good unit frame addons are very configurable. Different people like different stuff. Most good unit frames can be setup to look like they "belong in an RPG" rather like Blizz's style, but most users don't do that because they seek a leaner, more combat-effective setup.

Edit: And visual effects are all taste. I've seen some SciFi UIs that were simply fantastic looking, even for WoW. And I myself will be setting up my UI to use a night sky with a cloud-like nebula in it when I get back home. It's all taste.

If you like Blizz default, why use a mod?

Aye. And if you look around there are many excellent addons that will add some of the features of the fancier unit frames to the default unit frames, so you don't lose the style (search the unit frame sections of various sites; there are addons that add class icons, focus frames, numbers, etc to the default frame).

Edit: Don't worry about your English. :wink: As long as your not speaking in leet-speak, it doesn't matter.

Edit: Give me a minute and I'll link you some decent Blizz-based UFs.

Edit: SimpleUnitFrames (http://files.wowace.com/SimpleUnitFrames/SimpleUnitFrames.zip) - Adds class icons, health/mana text.
FocusFrame (http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/5681/) - Adds a target-like Focus frame.
Adapt (http://wowui.incgamers.com/ui.php?id=2260) - Animates the portraits on the default frames (because things that move just feel better :laugh:)

I do. The discord mods used to be the only ones I used. But when they weren't updated for 2.0 (officially), I moved to Ace. But Discord will always be with me (on a back cd in case I learn LUA and update the good :D).

Don't they change the look?

Yes, but you could make the look more RPG-ish with DUF.

Do you use the discord mods from: http://tetzfamily.com/eric/gaming/wow/discord/

Personally, I have not tried them, but I always thought discord to be a little more than what I needed. And for the life of me, I could never get them to work the way I wanted anyway.

I use a different url, but that's the same place.

Eris just put in a cast bar, so I'm trying that out right now :grin:

There's onyl two probelms with Discord:

1. Memory (sometimes 5mb for just UF)
2. can take a while to get them how you like.

Since when was RPG the opposite of Sci-Fi?

As for the original question, because generally I want things to be simple, clear, and crisp. Maybe that gives it a Sci-Fi look, but I'm not really fan of fiddly art and textures, they just get in the way for me.

You know what he meant -- the WoW-style fantasy.

True but WoW has some fairly Sci-Fi style themes to it too. It's not quite the high-fantasy of Tolkein.

@JaedxRapture
Thanks for the Adapt addon :)

@Tunga
You are right. WoW has got many SciFi like stuff but it fits in the universe. (and all of those goblin/gnome stuff looks like you dont want to use it ;))

@Thargos
I would love to use Discord but it just wont work the way i like it to work
