Not a n00B but I am new to the Horde. However as a Belf I didn't have the opportunity to level up in the Barrens because I had Ghostlands.

Anyways, I always hear about "Barrens chat" and the chuck norris talk - what's that all about? And why is it a common theme across all the hundreds of realms? That in and of itself is an awesome display of how culture is shared in the community.

I figure is it because the Barrens is an awfully LARGE (if not the largest starter) zone that keeps people locked in between 12 to 20something? And the chuck norris thing just took off because Texas Walker Ranger was so popular back in the day?

I don't get the Barrens Chat either. Every time I've been there noone ever says a word.

Of course that could be because I'm like the only alliance ever there outside of Ratchet.

The Barrens Alliance Highway FTW. :)

What you need to think of is who hangs out in The Barrens:

Nearly all Trolls, Orcs, and Tauren of the appropriate lvls.
Some Undeads and BEs of those lvls (teleport+zeppeliner and you're there).
Lots of high lvls waiting around to see if Alliance attacks XR.
Anyone travelling between the ends of Kalimdor.

Now with that many ppl, of which most are more or less bored, you're bound to have someone talking through General. Chuck Norris is just the most obvious thing to talk about.

Nothing, really, other than that it seems to be one of the first things that ppl who play too much computer thinks of talking about. I mean just try entering it in Google.

Chuck Norris hasn't been a significant feature of either of the realms on which I've played Horde characters. Barrens chat has, however, been notorious on both ... though I have to say it pales into insignificance beside the levels of drivel spouted in Goldshire.

My server must be different then. I am in Goldshire nearly every day with at least one of my characters and chat is usually quiet except for the occasional "can someone help me to kill hogger" stuff.

Watch the one named "Goldshire" to get an idea what the place is like on the average RP server. Then keep in mind that RPers are supposed to be more mature.
