I was wondering what was your favorite/most interested in race lore-wise, given the race's history, behavior, and thoughts and so on. I found this to be an intersting topic, and I would appreciate well, mature, thought-out discussions and not some "UNDEAD CUZ THEY ARE DA CREEPY!!!!! FTW!!" type thing.
Personally, I am really intrigued by the Tauren, seeing has how such a peaceful race are never given a break. How the Humans didn't care when they were in need, and that they only joined the Horde because of their blood-debt to the Orcs for their help. I also think its cruel for the Undead to manipulate them as they secretly plot to destroy all non-Undead races. It really makes me sympathise for the Tauren and respect them even more, and it makes it understandable their sometimes anger and harshness, where I see fit for them to be mad all the time after what happened to them. In fact, they have the right to go berserk on everyone, but they don't.
Also, I think only the Tauren have the right to become Druids because the Night Elves, in their 10,000 year attempts for immortality, strive to that goal even by hurting Nature, where they say (and should) condone in harmful act against Nature.
Well, I would like to know what you guys and girls think about the races in the World of Warcraft, and please post so I can hear your thoughts!
Very appreciated for a player's insight!

I go for more of the architecture of each of the races and what interests me is how they all have a lifestyle based off of cultures here in the real world. Taurens to Native Americans, Blood Elves to Russians, Draenai to those of the Middle-East, Night Elves to the Japanese, Trolls a sort of combination to Jamaicans, Austrailans, and the ancient Mayans, Orcs to the African lifestyle. The Humans basically have a old English maybe French castle style to them. While the Undead have more of a Germanic/Gothic architecture. The Dwarves definitely Celtic. The Gnomes seem to have a Chinese influence on them.

Im really interested in Gnomes, i identify with them being refugees & having to live in other race's homes. Also i like how they're the underdog class & how other users always make lame gnome jokes

Oooh, someone has a Napoleon complex :)
In case you haven't noticed, they are designed to be comical, given silly emotes, wild hair and fantastically comical contraptions- the absolute best thing about them. Toshey's Station(sp?) in BEM is one of the most wonderful locations in the game, in this respect. If you don't have a sense of humour, maybe avoid rolling a gnome.
Oh yes, and the best gnome joke is Blizzard's own, the female Draenei /silly recipe for cooking them..

I like every aspect of the Undead. They are a goal-driven race, very tireless and very persistent. They also happen to be very 'stubborn', and doesn't seem to have a habit in dropping what they had started halfway. Being very 'willful' also meant that they will just keep coming no matter how many times a person puts them down, and the only way to stop them is to obliterate them. In other words, very relentless and have a habit of single-mindedness.
Also, their architecture is very morbid, and reminds me strongly of the Gothic architecture. However, the dance ruined everything. If they danced like Victorian-age ballroom dancing, then everything fits in and we have a truly awesome race.

Although some might not like the direction the Dwarves in WoW have been portrayed I think they have a really good blend of story and timeline. They have their own very clanlike backstory with some evil divergences. They welcomed the Gnome refugees in and in turn adopted some of the Gnome's flavor in to their society. The spin on them switching gears to archeology and delving in to history is a good twist.
I will chime in agreement with the first post in regards to the Taurens. I might be slightly biased as my first toon was a shaman. But I do think they portray a much closer tie to nature then the Night Elves or Blood Elves.

The male dance is fine but the female I could understand needs a change.

I get what you're saying about the mosh pit dance, but just think of this, how would you, being undead, dance to the sounds of war drums and screams of pain. you'd probably convulse in an evil joy and look much the same.

Yeah but remember Blizzard gave the male Forsaken that punk rocker look. Thats why I think the moshpit dance goes perfect with them. I wish they could of given the male Tauren a better dance instead of IT'S PEANUT BUTTER JELLY-TIME!!!, its quite disturbing.

Orcs. I just love the backstory.

There's just something about the Tauren race that really appeals to me. I just love how thunderbluff is laid out. Maybe it's the fact that cow people live in high altitudes.
However, in terms of lore, I originally chose the forsaken due to the fact that I loved their story arc in WC3. I have a soft spot for people who are misunderstood by everyone...especially when they eat corpses.
edit: don't diss the tauren dance, as it's second only to the orc hammer time. i think the sole reason I can't bring myself to play a blood elf is because of their dance...ick (worst...movie...ever).

I disagree on Night Elves not being allowed to have Druids on account of harming nature... They've done nothing BUT protect nature (expect growing Teldrassil, that was a bit selffish, but forgivable IMO since they had just had Nordrassil destroyed).
Also, don't confuse the actions of the High Elves with those of the Night Elves.

If it wasn't for the cow like-look, I'd play the Tauren as the most sympathetic race lore-wise. Agreed with the OP! If the Tauren would lead the Horde, I'm sure the Undead would never be in ^^
Blood Elves to Russians, Draenai to those of the Middle-East
Why? The Dranei speak with a russian accent .. they're more like russian astronauts ^^

Ya, I'm glad someone agrees with me about the Tauren. Although, I don't really see any tie to nature with Blood Elves, or at least any mutual tie. Blood Elves are very sitanic in search for mana, as the survivability as their race twindles. I personally don't like the Blood Elves as they don't seem like part of the Horde. They are maniac and crazy, not evil (although the Horde in no way are evil really).
Also, I do think the races relate to real life. The the Humans seek to destroy all who don't share their beliefs (1600s anyone?), and Blood Elves are blinded by magic. Also, the Draenei are also vulnerable to corruption, as they may be incapable of rational thought, because of their strict following of the Light. This may influence them on the side of the Bad without even noticing it.
This is the reason I like Tauren. They have no quarrels naturally, but they are not given a break. They just want a land to call their own, and they are a friendly and helpful race, who spend their days in the Hunt.
Anyways, keep on posting, I'm reading!

Hm..I don't follow the orcs myself...care to elaborate on that? I'd like to know more about them.
Male Tauren have the best /flex in the game. Just dominated your opponent? /Flex over his unreleased body.

Sorry for the triple posting, but I can't edit now.
Anyways, I would like to know about the Warcraft games, since people talk about them and I would want to know how it all happened and related to World of Warcraft. I want to know if the game is too old to get into now, if it plays like a straight-up RTS, and what you can do in the game. Since I want to keep this thread on topic (please post more of your thoughts, this is really interesting!) I am going to start a new thread. So if you play or have played Warcraft I-III, or are intersted in it, check out the new thread!
Keep up with your thoughts!
EDIT: Noyb posted while I was writing, so I technically didn't triple post now

I'd say the Blood Elves seem almost as evil as the Forsaken. The forsaken didn't really choose to become these somewhat evil undead - they could be evil free undead or evil servile undead. The blood elves as a race made a conscious choise to become so power-hungry and blind to all evil that they do. The undead get some twisted amusement from their dark experiments - the blood elves do it without any feeling at all, because they are convinced that it is necessary. I mean, come on, they have one of the Naaru trapped under their city, and a paladin quest requires that you kill another of your colleagues to advance.
I would not consider the orcs or tauren to be evil at all. The orcs under Thrall are brutal and warlike, but they fight with honor. They value strength of arms and conquest, but they are equally willing to find peace with those who treat them well.
And the taurens would all prefer to be out in the woods hunting instead of fighting battles.
Personally I like the orcs and the taurens ;) The first time my orc warlock came to undercity and saw the humans, my worthy opponents, being experimented on in cages, I wanted to enslave the Sylvanas's pet demon and crush Undercity to rubble.

In terms of backstory my favourite culture is the Forsaken. Although they hate the Scourge (with excellent reason) the humans, in their arrogance, refused to acknowledge their right to exist. Fuelled by the desire to continue to live, and free of the burdens of morality, the Forsaken will uphold their right to exist by any means necessary. If that means exterminating what's left of the human race then *shrug*.
