In the past few months (since the xpack) the world griefing has really gotten out of hand on my server. It has not been a good situation for some time, but when the summer school break started, the situation really took a nosedive.

Getting summoned to just about any instance is near impossible.

Turning in quests at skettis, or in BE for ogri'la rep is a challenge to say the least.

Any spot that has any farming value is a hotter pvp spot than southshore ever was.

Rep grinding in skettis or nagrand? Forget about it.

Basically almost everything in any contested area is becoming a struggle. I know of multiple hunters who do nothing but spend hours flying their mounts over many zones tracking people and dive bomb ganking them.

In short, the people who I enjoy playing with the most and myself are seriously considering x-ferring to a normal server. Currently we are on rp/pvp.

If any of you have switched servers, could you give me your experience? Would you do it again?
Would you have just re-rolled?

I'm looking for a server that has a medium population without extensive pve progress. I'm not sure what holds back progression on my realm but i'm fairly sure it is the hours and hours of time people put into world pvp. Only after the eye/ssc attunements were removed did we see the first piece of tier 5 on our server. I don't think any guilds are into the black temple.

I'm not asking for a server with that kind of progression, but a newer normal server with a medium population and a good mix between the two factions is what we are looking for.

Those playing on normal servers, could you suggest certain realms?

Also I know there have been free transfers by blizz in the past, is this something that is going to happen again?

The two things we don't want are:

1. To transfer to a ghost server.
2. To transfer to a server where people are heavily progressed through end game.

Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yep, I transferred to a euro PvE server a few months before TBC. I'd say it was a good experience- I landed on a server with a less skewed economy, less crowding, and a whole new set of people to play with. I'd call it a really positive experience.

My only regret is missing a few people from my old server- however, my favourite gnomelock from back there keeps threatening to transfer- I hope he does.

I'm delighted to say that my server has a nice mix of progress, lots of small guilds having cleared Kara and taking a crack at Gruul, some a reasonable way into the 25 mans (though no-one in Hyjal or bringing down BT bosses yet, I think). Seems like a nice experience.

In the end, I gave up waiting for a free transfer- my old server was getting unbearable, and still there were no free xfers out- goodness knows what state the ones that did qualify were in. I just bit the bullet, and teleported both my level-cap toons out to somewhere nicer.

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time of it, rgirty, hope you find somewhere that suits you soon.

Thanks moopy, the bad part about all of it is the same group of friends and myself created a new guild only 2 months ago. We put a lot of effort into it, and are nearing 100 people now with 2 groups in kara (one clearing it). I really don't want to lose all that progression and I know only a handful of people will xfer.

However when the game isn't fun, its time to do something. The game itself is a great joy, playing with friends and raiding is a good time. The other things I listed are what ruins the game for us.

I guess i'll make alts on various servers (hope someone recommends a normal one) and try to find some friendly people that will tell me the state of the server.

I'm also going to make various posts on many different realm forums.

Thanks again moopy.

<-- plays on an ordinary EU PvE server if you wanna shame me with your extreme healing skills, by the by. /duck

Whichever part of the world you're playing in, I am sure there are tonnes of viable servers, I guess one of the census sites will give you rough numbers for balance and pop, and you'll take it from there.

I'm looking at area 52, the real question is I can convince all the people I like playing with to xfer.

My highest char is only 65 though, but I've not ran into too many asshats on either of my realms, mainly people with below average IQ but I suppose that is seen on all realms.

If you are playing horde - Khadgar has been great when I've been playing my shaman on there, there is always alot of people everywhere, seems to be quite equal Horde:Alliance ratio.

As alliance - Draenor, Doomhammer and Emerald Dream are all great realms in my experience. Draenor is the one I've had the easiest time getting groups on, but might be because I've got my highest char on there and therefore "automatically" meet more people, as higher level leveling is slower.

If you are in the US, ignore this, I can't keep track of nationalitys on this forum :p

rgirty - I think its just a case of "out of the frying pan, into the fire" on switching realms. Although Moopy's story above has given me a little hope & I hope you aswell, so good luck :)

Ps. If anyone knows of an EU realm that has minimal Nelfs jumping around like they've been stung by a Bee please feel free to PM me.

I'd guess the real source of rgirty's misery is the nature of an RP-PVP server.

RP-PVE may be a nice carebear environment where RP is embraced, but I can easily see griefers gravitating toward an RP-PVP environment in order to prey upon "RP dorks" for a good hearty chuckle.

Even most PVP servers aren't nonstop griefing.
Even on Tichondrius, which has a reputation for being a trial by fire, I'm able to get things done, even when the alliance guild "Weve Got All Day" is up to their usual antics in Cosmowrench, Ring of Blood, or Deadwind Pass.

I think finding a decent server that's neither empty nor full of burnouts and roflcopters should be pretty easy, even if it's another PVP server. If you're concerned about the server being too deep into Hyjal/BT, turning your guild into a stepping stone, you might WANT to stay PVP, since they tend to progress slower.

rgirty, something you may want to consider...

If you xfer to a PVE server, you aren't going to be able to tag mobs because nobody can kill eachother, so there will be bots left and right, along with horde and alliance all targeting exactly what you are targeting....there is no fear to keep players away...so while you may get ganked now, you'll have to deal with a million players all grinding the exact same thing you are, without being able to do anything besides hoping you tag a mob first.

Something to think about anyway...

This is no different from the 20-30 people continually ganking at every camping spot. The only difference between the two is repair bills.

At least on a PvE server you can summon people using a summoning stone.

The other faction does not have guilds named <griefsquad> that do nothing but grief people. Auchindon/cosmowrench summoning stone camping nights seem to be fairly normal. Where a raid of 20+ do their best to make sure that the other faction does not use the stone.

I'll probably stay on my server, just try to organize people to travel in groups and forget about doing daily quests unless i'm on in a very odd hour.

It is not that bad on my server. I farm Nag Primals allot and have only had a couple of occasions where you get grief from too many people being there. Usually each person just sticks to their little area and farms away. However, you do get the occasional asshat loc who wants to banish everyones target. Easy enough to report them though. It is faster and cheaper to just let it respawn than to die/rez/rebuff/etc...

Another PVE example. We were helping a guildie do the ring of fire line last night. It was our group and a horde group that arrived there at the same time. We decided to go ahead and take first stab at it. The Horde waited patiently until our whole line was done and they even grab a couple stray adds for us. We turned around and did the same. Two groups taking 15 minutes to run the line twice. Now if that was a pvp server, and 5 horde and 5 aliance meet there, how long would it have taken to do that quest with all the "ganking" (assuming that PvP is allowed there on a PvP server)?

But let it be known that if one of those hordies threw a pvp flag up it would have been on.

The bottom line on PvE is that you have a choice. I have gone a week or more at times with my flag up and it still gives you the same effect. But I get to turn it off when I need to complete a task and do not have to deal with the asshats ganking and camping you.

People literally camp the elemental plateau area claiming that none from the other faction can farm it. It goes both ways, I flew up there once to check it out.

It is the high end world pvp version of southshore. Gladiator gear abounds and battles are epic, 30-40 people have been known to battle there for long lengths of time.

How do you find out the population and distribution of characters on a server? And how do you find out where is a server located geographically ?

If I am in the US, can i play on an European server? I am guessing if I play on a server that is in my area there will be less lag ?

Thanks
