I've heard this game is geared toward PvP and has taken a lot of good things from DAoC and WoW but was wondering if we have any beta testers here that could give us some insight.

My coworker is one of those beta testers and he said it is confidential so he was not allowed to comment on it. However, he did say that he spent as much time as he played on WOW and the look and feel were much better than those clips on youtube.
He did seem to be very excited.

Due to NDA's anyone testing the game right now can't post anything really. Well I guess they can but if they get caught its not good for them :p

Would the NDA not allow them to say if they are liking it better than WoW? Or if they thought PvP was better?
If I don't ask for details on the game mechanics...

No offense but your coworker is an idiot if he won't share opinions on this with a friend on a non-commercial or non-public basis.
If the NDA prohibits him from doing so, then he would be an idiot to tell someone who is a member of a popular forum, and might just leak it.

It is called "respect". He respects the promise he made with the warhammer company and I respect his integrity.

No, it's a videogame and thus much, MUCH more important!

Leave the guy alone, obviously he's very passionate about his interest in video games like most of us here, I'm sure if you were in his position you would do your best to follow the rules.

I was joking about the harry potter thing (he dies!!!) mwaaahaahaa...
Back to the op. Here's hoping that Warhammer is great (a little competition never hurt anyone).

Last NDA I was under prohibited me from even stating that I was the beta. Of course I then just stated that I had accepted the NDA and thus couldn't answer any questions about wether or not I was in the game, but stuff like "wether or not it's better than..." is exactly the stuff Closed Beta NDAs focus on.
For alpha phases you'll know exactly who's testing the game and that they know what testing a game means, but for a beta you'd have all the noobs going "The graphics suck!", "This game's buggy as hell!", "WoW is much better!", etc., etc.
Anyone who know the first thing about betas (that it's incomplete games) would ignore these ppl, but take a moment to consider how many kids are playing WoW. More or less than $10 million/month?
However, looking at how bad WoW's PvP is in comparison to DAoC (or indeed most other games) I can't imagine how they'd make it worse. I mean, class balancing isn't exactly great in WoW as it is, world PvP is still more or less non-existant, and the Battlegrounds are instanced and thus extremely repetitive.
No offense but your coworker is an idiot if he won't share opinions on this with a friend on a non-commercial or non-public basis.
Do you know what the coworker's job is?
Considered what would happen to a lawyer, shrink, programmer, or anyone else like that if he spilled his guts to the first person he saw after agreeing on a NDA and then say he's an idiot again.
"Oh yeah, this lawyer seems good, he only once lost a lawsuit considering a NDA break, so I'll be sure he wont tell anyone that I'm leaving my wife because I started borrowing her clothes!"
When's it out?
Next year. They're hoping for Q1.

I happened upon this thread while doing a random Google search and decided to register simply to put my 2 cents in.
Like any beta tester involved, I can only say 2 things: #1 There is a beta test going on right now (duh) #2 I am in it.
Having said that, I don't think it would be against the NDA for me to say the following...
I have been playing WoW for over 3 years now, Biomorph (leader of Game Over guild) on Wildhammer server (but I play WAR now). I wont give my other names in WoW b/c it could comprimise my identity in WAR, nuff said...
I just want you all to know, the graphics are slightly better than WoW's, mostly in the fact that they're higher definition and more realistic. The orcs are MUCH MUCH more 'orcy' (if that's a word) and elves/humans body frames look much better IMO.
(breaking away a little from the NDA on the following comments)
The quest system is far superior to WoW's, if you play the game, you will know what I mean, IMMEDIATELY. I'm highly impressed with the UI and all the features implemented into the 'vanilla' version of the game. Imagine WoW with about 15-20 plugins, as far as features go, and you've got WAR.
It seems the developers of WAR have learned what people want in their MMO from plugin/addon creators and have implemented them into the core of WAR, with of course the feature to expand further with addons.
I better shuddap though before uncle same catches on, last thing I'll say, get the game, comes out Sept 18th. However, pre-order it now, all the collectors editions have sold out and the standard editions are on BACK ORDER. This game is going to be HUGE!
If you played DAoC and loved the PVP (RVR) aspect of that game and liked the customizations of WOW (ui-wise) as well as the leveling and questing of WOW, then I implore you to try WAR. You wont be disappointed.
PS: For you kiddies, stay away from WAR please and continue your "chuck norris" rants in Barrens. Message to all 13 yr olds: KEEP PLAYING WOW!!!

Why do I not believe you.
Either way, if I was in beta and I was your friend, I'd tell you everything regardless of NDA. I have a stronger bond with my friend then some volatile NDA and a corporations that make millions whether or not I tell my buddies bits of info about their next huge game.
Bros before corporations imo.

Sounds....almost like an advertisement.
Notice the total lack of any negatives. No comment on the whole removal of 4 classes and 2/3rd's of all the starting cities.
Hmmmmm.....curious that.

It read like shilling to me as well. Then again, the name and guild name does exist on the US armory. Maybe it got picked at random, or maybe he's a convert. *shrugs*

Thought I'd check back in...
Don't believe me, I don't really care. rofl But I'm not lying about anything I said, you want negative? There's 2 bugs that I've noticed, 1 where you get stuck in combat and have to die or log out and 2nd is for Marauders, their skin turns green like the hulk when they turn in multiple quests, have their claw out and gain a level. Funny stuff. But they're already working on fixing those and probably will be released in next 1-2 days with patch 3.32.
But... I'm betting you wont believe that stuff either. :P Either way, take what I said with a grain of salt or to heart, but anyone who craves real PVP should definitely take a look at WAR.

EDIT: To clarify, when I said "it" will be released in 1-2 days, I meant the beta patch to fix those bugs mentioned, not the actual game. They took the server I'm on down just now for maintenance, gawd I'm fiending already. ><
WAR is addictive!
PS: tried out the crafting system today, pretty cool stuff. I did apothecary & cultivating. Could be compared to alchemy & herbalism, respectfully. However, unlike WoW, not only do you find some herbs, but you can also buy or grow them yourself. And as for Apothecary, there are not set 'recipies', you simply take a few ingrediants that have qualities you'd like to see in your potion and then combine them. If you mix them well and dilute them to stabilize, you will end up with some REALLY cool potion combinations.
For my Marauder, I made a potion that gives me 10 STR for 5 minutes, and the potions are cheap to make, only like 40 brass (aka copper) each. As for the money market compared to WoW, you get about the same amount per level. I had around 7000 brass (aka 70 silver) by level 8. So it's pretty balanced.
Well, I think the server's coming back up now and I could go on & on about this game so I'm just gonna stop here...

Bros before corporations imo.
it isnt about bros or companies.
it is about this : do you keep your promises or not ?
you promised to a company to not tell on them. No matter to whom.
that said, i think Warhammer will suffer the same problems as Age of Conan did. release too early, half finished game, the dvelopers dont have time to put in all the content they wanted. the news that they had to delete all the starting cities except one for each faction speaks for itself...

.
Coming back, makes you a tad more credible.
You have to keep in mind that we get shilling and advertising by the buckets.
So us folks in green tend to get somewhat cynical about declarations like yours after a while, especially in light of them just being drive-by declarations.
It's nothing personal, we're just reacting to what our experiences have taught us to be true.

He is on the armory. Perhaps you mistyped?
I have preordered WAR and I am actually excited. I know basically nothing about the game, but WoW is getting pretty boring to me. RvR sounds awesome and WoW pvp is absolutely pathetic. Who remembers lolsand? and the stupid towers that give a PVE buff? Give me a break. It sounds like Lake Wintergrasp will be more of the same nonsense.
I just hope WAR can live up to my expectations. *crosses fingers*

Might want to reread what I said, because I did confirm that both the character name and the Guild name are valid entries in the armory.
