View Full Version : Where has the WOW factor gone?

The game was rolling right along, fun as all hell, then they introduced the honor system and expansion and the fun factor just plummeted.

Never recovered imo.

AV was fun as hell at first though I gotta admit. Epic would be a fitting description. But the Dev's had a change of heart right when the game was *peaking* imho. Something had to be done about server lag during the SS vs TM and the Hammerfall vs. Refuge Point days, so they put in instanced PvP and just, took the soul out of this game.

Compacted with the fact that to fix the imbalanced queue sysytem they had in place for the battlegrounds,, they had to lump a bunch of servers together into a battlegroup, just made it way worse.

Gone are the days where you knew the other faction members and guilds on your server and had personal rivalries with other faction players and would KoS and fight with real honor certain people because of the *real* reputation they had gained on the server.

That was the soul of WoW. Now it's so anonymous and grindy. I've had fun in the BG's, but not like it used to be. Running around with a blackhand doomsaw mortal striking everything in site, getting eaten up by Spire Spiderlings pets, laughing at any warlocks because they were hands down the weakest of the weaksauce class in the game.

Man, I would wake up looking forward to an all day-all night session in this game. All I look forward to now is the day another development team releases something fresh. Until then, keep playin this game, it has it's moments, the control scheme is good and it runs well on my PC, but yeah. The Honor System + DK's + Battlegrounds, it's just been downhill since those were introduced. Nothing they have done to try and bring back world pvp has worked since then.

It's sad to think that all of that was done a couple of years ago just to help with the lag and server stability issues (not to mention the QQ of the handful of people that couldn't turn in quests). Now it's a couple of years later and the technology has improved 10fold easily, yet they can't ever patch the *soul* back into this game. They would literally have to scrap the honor system/arena matches and all the BG's to do that. Won't happen.

Even the PvE cats loved to world pvp back then, EVERYONE got behind it and there was some serious clout and trash talking between factions, fun rivalries. Now it's just pointless QQ like this post of mine and hoping that some of the upcoming titles don't suck as bad as the other supposed "wow killers" that have come and gone.

Is this not essentially a different worded version of http://wow.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=400709 that thread?

I don't think they killed any thing in WoW. It was good pre 2.0 and TBC, and it' still good after 2.0 and TBC. They didn't really change any of the mechanics of PvP, they just got rid of the titled really. It's not like they changed how you did PvP.

Though I enjoy the game thoroughly still, I understand your points entirely and I'm sympathetic. I see what you mean. I really do. They have changed the game much. Personally I see these changes simply as format changes; I don't think they removed the thrill of the game, they simply changed the format of that thrill; they have constricted some features of the game and made others more diverse, but altogether I can personally still find my thrill quite easily. But the format isn't to everyone's taste. And as such it's ruined the game entirely for many. I understand what you mean and it's only sad that the players like you will never have their personal WoW back.

Seems to me most of the whining about this game is about PvP. Personally, I couldn't care less - I don't PvP, so I don't agree with the OP at all. I'm having huge fun in the game.

I can't help wishing they'd never introduced PvP ...

I hear there's these rumoured pvp-servers where you can constantly fight the other faction in disputed territories, and even pvp rpg for the hardcore guys. ;)

The logic gets more twisty, there's a lot of whining by people who don't PvP and are whining that other people do, and enjoy it. Those people would find something else to whine about if there was no PvP, they're QQ specced.

WoW is still wow. No other MMORPG compares.

Wow factor still running strong for me. I still derive just as much enjoyment from the game now, as I did when the game launched.

I like it more than ever, now that I feel like I am progressing with a char that will be useful.

If the game has gone stale for you, then leave it.

No point in trying to sour it for us...

Some people are very resistant to changes or any kind, they would rather things be the same, better or not, just for consistency.

I personally feel like if you feel like the game is not fun anymore to you, you should not waste your money on it anymore.

I for one love this game, and think that it is better than it has ever been, with them constantly doing things to improve the gameplay.

They're not gonna change anything anytime soon b/c YOU want them to, so it may be best to switch to another MMORPG (my standard response to those this seemingly unhappy w/ current game conditions)

Nostalgia strikes again.

Ever notice how people are more apt to remember things fondly regardless of how they felt when they were going through it?

World PvP was fun, but instanced PvP brings much more to the table. The only reason people attacked Tarren Mill and Southshore was they had nothing better to do. Now there's actual rewards for PvP. PvP raids still happen. Just not with the consistency of the past.

It's pretty much impossible to recapture those feelings of when the game was still new. It's like climbing a mountain. Reaching the pinnacle for the first time is an amazing feeling (or so I'm told.) Sure, a person can climb the mountain again, but it will never seem as awesome as the first time.

When all else fails. It might be time to take a break.

As someone who has found himself on the wrong end of 3:1 population imbalance far too many times, I say good riddance to old world PvP.

Looks like a slightly reworded version of your other post regarding this subject to me. Meaning....
