Hey all. Thought I would ask for some suggestions from the more experienced players.
I just got my wife started playing - she has decided upon a mage. What I need to do is figure out a new character to create to team up with her. Her skills are not uber so I want a class that can help her out a lot. Any suggestions? Preferably not repeating a class I already have. I could let her get to 10 and then join her with my hunter - but I also want us to be able to get in to groups and that isn't always easy with a hunter so I am thinking I would be better off rolling a new toon - one that can keep the mobs off of her. Maybe a Druid? What do you guys think? What would go well with a mage?
Also looking at forming a 2v2 team later on so please keep that in mind with your answers. I have no clue what goes well with a mage in PvP as I have never done PvP b4. Yeah I figure we will suck at first no matter what class I choose, but hopefully we will learn eventually.
Thanks everyone.

I'm not the greatest to give advice, but since a mage is considered a ranged player ( i think) you're going to probably want a tanking aspect in there....
a druid is good because you would be able to tank, but then you're limited in healing since you'd have to shift to heal...which can get rather tricky (or so I've found).
I think perhaps a lock/hunter would be good...since you'd have your minion/pet tanking and the two of you as ranged.
I'll be honest though, my opinion is coming from questing/grinding duo since my bf and I do that together...we've never stepped foot in the arena. Frankly I'm scared too!

With a warlock/mage combination the amount of dps you will be putting out in PvE (if you learn your characters "to do's" and "not to do's") will be skyhigh. With the warlock in the mix you will also get a free tank/pet/stamina buff along, which is always a bonus. You could also get a paladin, since they are a great support class, but you have already leveled one, so you might not want to do that.
I would recommend not starting a warrior, simply because there is no need if you are going to duo together towards level 70. The effort spent trying to keep aggro was a warrior when a mage is going full out "pew pew" is a hassle (probably forcing you into defensive stance to Taunt), which means a significant drop in overall DPS.
I recommend going as a warlock or maybe a shadow priest, since they are both very, very fun classes.

Hmmm... a friend of mine rolled a mage alt and found that she had issues staying alive. One of our guild mages showed her kiting techniques and frost nova for when she soloed... but what worked well when we duoed is that I had a Shaman since I could heal her. So I'd think that a hybrid class would be fun and a good choice.
Warlock would also be great since your dps would likely kill most things v fast, but I wonder about your desirability to groups. If they need 2 dps, great, but otherwise...

Hmm
My wife (never played an MMO b4) started with a druid for the whole changing to animal form, she liked the NE look, and because she can cast with spells and also heal herself (healing is a huge necessity IMO for a first time MMORPGer). Though she wants a wand for her druid ( shes now a 70 Boomkin and an Alchemy Master of Elixers who is generally in the top 5 for Overall Damage in most BG's  she rocks!).
Remember that mages (early on especially) are glass cannons I would definately suggest soemthing that could heal her so I'd say a ShadowPriest, Pally, Druid, or Shammy (no particular order).
Gratz on getting to her to join the obsession.

I play a mage and my friend plays a warlock and we quest together all the time. I think a warlock is a great companion for a mage since at lvl 10 the lock gets a free tank and together the dps output is awesome. Make an good arena team too:thumbsup:.

My vote will sooner go for a Shadow Priest. More often than not she'll pull aggro like mad and you'll wanna be there shielding and healing her. If you can get the jump on her aggro you can go allout shadow dmg.
I say this from playing my druid alongside my wife's hunter and cursing that I had to run all the way to the target every time to do dps. I also vividly remember immediately running back because she didn't know how to manage her pet aggro.
Then when we double teamed mages (she fire, I frost), she would always overaggro due to getting to close to adds. She'd die and I'd kill 'em all.
Trust me, make a priest.

2 mages is good for aoe goodness, same for priest and mage. Warlock and mage and hunter/mage are both great together, after that, it really depends, a mage could team with a tank, but might feel he has to hold back to not pull aggro, or the tank might feel like he is just along for the ride. Other healing classes could work well enough for the aoe, its just that priest is the logical choice because of the bubble's ability to not let channelling be interrupted, and other dps classes could be ok, but not as efficient or controlling as the ones mentioned above.
This game is good that any 2 classes can get together and do fairly well together, some just go together like chinese food and pudding.

Thanks everyone for your input.
After talking to many of my guildmates we have decided that she should spec for frost and I will group with her with an AoE Prot pallie. I should be able to hold agro no problem as long as she waits a sec or 2 for me to build agro, frost gives her some protection. The consensus amongst my guild mates is that this should present e nearly unstoppable arena team (especially since i should have my pallie pretty well twinked out by then).
Since we will be playing in the same room together for arena we will have a communication advantage and I can throw a LOH on her if need be at any time if she gets in trouble. I can also throw a bubble on her as a pallie so I can heal her or she can bandage or use pots and I can give her a mana regen blessing.
