View Full Version : When botting goes too far...

A nice little story here that you guys might enjoy. It's something that I've still got the ticket open for waiting for a GM to hear it out. It's been very annoying and stressful to me for the past 50-60 minutes and I thought I'd share it with you guys, as I've never before seen or heard of anything like this happening.

I play on a PvP server of course. About an hour ago I joined up a group in STV for a quest, began killing some of those Gorillas near the cave (most of you guys know the area). And I realized near us was a bot. It was a level 42 mage.. I had remembered somebody mentioning a bot in the area so I asked by name if this was the same bot, and it indeed was. So I killed it a couple times, had a little fun, then gave up. Not a minute after my last kill of it, what I believe to be its master--an actual player--showed up.

This guy was also, strangely enough, a mage (level 40). And he was good. Very good. (He gave me and a 44 rogue a challenge, though only managed to kill me twice out of about a dozen battles and never once got my rogue friend down.)

Well after we dealt wih him a few times he went away. After a couple minutes we decided to kill the bot again and, once again, he shows up to kill us. And this time he had a friend with him (another mage), who by its behaviour and very precise movements and patterns I can well tell is a bot. Next thing I know I've got both bots and the real player on me and my friend, and we're in a tough battle.

Though it was hard overall to deal with 3 players, my friend and I finished them off. Simple enough as bots are easy to kill. We start questing again to get the required items, and then after about 5 minutes he shows up again with both bot friends. And after another tough battle, he begins to flee towards Booty Bay to avoid death.

So we get near BB and manage to get him killed before that. But seconds after he dies, Bot1 springs to life and starts killing me--this time obviously controlled by a person. Challenging as it was to kill her, as this guy was extremely skilled at mages, I managed it, and I ran to the mouth of Booty Bay to regen and rez my pet and rest for a few.

Only moments later Bot1 shows up again, controlled by a person still quite obviously. But she doesn't do anything, only tries to lure me and my rogue friend out. We've had enough PvP against this guy for now and don't bite. So just a few minutes later strangely enough a random enemy approaches us and begins banging on us at the mouth of Booty Bay, ingoring the guards. I looked at the name and it was identical to Bot2's, save the fact that the word "Mage" within the name was changed to "Shaman" and it was, of course, a shaman.

So after about an hour I'm sitting here now in Booty Bay with a guy and his 3 bots after me. If I leave I'm as good as dead. And the GM is taking way too long to respond.

Have you guys ever had anything similar to this happen? And have any of you even seen 3 bots and their master at once? (lol)

That was a very amusing tale, JaedXRapture.

The most I could muster was two bots and their master, grinding Naga in Azhara. After killing the two Hunter bots roaming around a few dozen times the same thing happened - a much higher level Warlock showed up and was clearly controlled by an actual player. He ran escort for the bots for a while.

Annoying isn't it? Very stressful when somebody cheats against you in PvP using bots.

True. This is however beautifully counterbalanced by the free honour you can gain until the master deigns to knock on your door.

The guards in Booty Bay don't like PvP. They'll happily join in to make sure it stops.

too bad the guards in BB suck at punishing the PvP'ers ^^

anyway, Jaedx, this sounds like someone multiboxing :) which by itself would not be cheating. If he is running bot scripts, it is of course a different thing. Bad thing is, if he is at his computer and therefore able to answer to whispers from a GM, there is pretty much no way a GM could prove his botting.

I've never seen a "master" come and intervene before, but I have had similar experiences myself.

Mostly just killing a bot, or group of bots, only to see that 5 mins later they are being controlled by a real person. Thankfully they're usually not very good.

The fact that your one was good makes me wonder if it is multiboxing also. However you say the bots had the bot like movements (hard to describe, but I know what you mean). Maybe it is 1 person multiboxing, but botting everything but the main character?

I was runnig through sttranglethorn hell yesterday to go tot he burning steppes, and there's was 10 bots in one area (I didn't see them, but people where talking about it in the chat). apperently some people have been there for like 3 hours just killing them over and over again. Pretty amusing.

Used to happen in eve-online a lot, you used to get 5-6 mining barges in a system and one hauler, the player would warp a barge to an asteroid belt and set the bots to start mining away and then control the hauler to bring in the ore, and due to him keeping an eye on the bot's screen's occasionally he could always reply to any pm from a GM :banghead: quite a lot of the macrominers in eve had been in game for over 18 months when i left and some over 2 years with nothing being done.

It's probably some famous NFL quarterback, tired of being persecuted for dog-fighting, and trying to find some other underhanded way of pursuing violence.

Multiboxing yes. It was obvious he was doing this. But it was also obvious he had a script to control the characters he wasn't actively controlling.

And regarding BB guards and such. First, I meant that I couldn't leave BB 'cause they were after me. And regardless if you've done STV recently you know the guards are helpless once a 70 or two decide they want to gank--especially if they're a ranged class (the water's such a sweet gank spot).
