View Full Version : I'm not botting, but someone may think I am

Occasionally I will dual box and "drag" a toon thru an area, by using follow. When I do this, I usually change the chat box to the combat window so I can see any experience points gained. I also turn off the sound on that one character. After a few minutes the toon being "dragged" goes AFK.

I was reading another thread about botting, and it got me thinking. What if someone thinks I'm botting and a GM tries to contact me? Or a GM tries to contact me for whatever reason? I will not hear the whisper chime in, and I will not see the whisper chat.
Could I end up getting banned because I do not respond to a GM whisper? would putting an AFK message staying, I am following so and so, please whisper so and so, be good enough?

If I saw what you're describing, I'd think it looked like an afk player on follow.

I remember when my gf and I were below level 40, we'd take turns running round regions doing the same thing :)

If you're really worried though, you could turn the sound on if it's possible, so you'd hear the noise. To be honest, if the afk following guy isn't killing or looting anything then you probably don't have anything to worry about, as you won't look suspicious :)

Thanks for the response. Yeah, there's usually not much looting or killing going on with the toon that is following. Turning on the sound on both toons creates some lag, so I turn it off.

The char that you hvae following your main who is normally on AFk, do you look at his chat window while playing? if you do then its possible to turn /w on with the combat chat without having anything else showing, why not do that? so if you do get a GM /w you, you will see it and can anser him/her.

I do that a lot, follow my bf when it's my turn to make the sandwiches and drinks. I've not run into any trouble with GMs so far.

Yes, I do look at the combat log every now and then, just to see how much exp I'm getting? How do you turn on /w with the combat chat? I thought you could only get it to show up in the main chat tab (or whatever it's called).

Right click the chat pannel, Move your mouse over the option that says Channels, then select whispers, that should put a tick next to it, so any /w you get will display in that chat pannel.

I often make dinner and gain exp at the same time ;)

I wouldnt see this is botting, as someone said it would just be some afk guy following you..now if you started fighting things and it seemed you attacked at the same time and casted spells at the same time, that would look like botting to me

You could also drag the combat window over to the other side so you can see both windows at the same time.

You could create a new tab that only has /say /whisper /guild
I do this so I don't miss important stuff that city chatter (/yell / general /trade )makes scroll up before I see it.
