View Full Version : Does the type of realm you're on matter?

What I mean is, does it matter when your goal or objective is to complete quests/instances/raids etc?

I've been on a RP realm for about a year now and it is TERRIBLE for questing/instancing. The guild I just joined (to help a friend out) doesn't have too many level 70s on at any one time for us to run instances, and the LookingForGroup channel in my realm is mostly quiet the majority of the time. I don't know many famous big guilds on my realm or if they even do raids because I hardly see anyone advertising.

But last night I was reaching my limit. I've accumulated about 15 different group quests between Netherstorm and SMV and being a Mage I can't exactly solo 99% of them. No matter how I pleaded in General chat, the 17 people (between lvl 67-72) listed in these zones at the time didn't even respond! How rude!

I'm seriously thinking about paying to transfer my char to another realm just so I can meet people who want to quest/instance regularly but I am not experienced in most other realms. I thought RP realms were for more mature players but it looks like all they do is guild chat or whisper because they certainly aren't questing/instancing!

for a MMORPG I've spent about 90% of my time solo... :(

My RP server is one of the oldest, chockful, we have like 20 raidgroups and always find somebody in general to help out.

So you might just be in bad luck here.

well then is Sentinels considered young or old? I've only been on for a year, dont know if it was around before then.

I'm hoping it's a realm issue and that say, players on normal realms do more questing/instancing. It's frustrating to log on, spend at least 1 full hour begging for help with stupid group quest chain lines that lead to some dungeon only to run into the same crap of not finding a group to run that dungeon either.

I'm stuck on Gorefiend's Armor (really how can I take on an elite undead dragon by myself?), The last mob boss to be neutral with Netherwing, The Illiad Bane questline where I need to run Shadow Labyrinth and Mechanar (unbelievably hard to find a group for these) and even the stupid little ones like Shutting down Manaforge Ara to get my last bit of 250 Scryer rep... I mean come on!

At this point it can't be bad luck, I just think the players priorties on this realm is different apparently.

Server population decides instance groups more than type of realm really, the more people the more alts doing stuff.

but I guess it's a double-edged sword? more pop = more lag, more maintenance, more down-time?

I generally try to play on high population servers, and I generally ask in trade what the alliance-horde population ratio is, to make sure it's about flat. I never really have problems getting groups and if the queue system takes to long I generally begin whispering people from the /who window.

But on a side note: if you've played on RP your entire WoW career, I recommend trying PvP (or RP-PvP). I didn't like the killing at first myself but after just a little bit I got used to them and now I'm loving it. It adds a unique challenge to the game and is very fun.

Edit: If you find a server in your time zone you won't get bad server lag. I'm on one of the highest population PvP servers and I range 20-80 MS latency. Login to the game, find a high pop server of the desired type, and then alt-tab and open up Google and search for its time zone.

Thanks for the advice Jaedx, will have to check and see if my servier is a high-pop (which I highly doubt now) and maybe look into other high-pop servers instead.

As for RP-PVP...that would frustrate me even more. My WOW playing time is limited - so that's why I like to log on and make the most of the 1-3 hours of gaming time I have (now you see why it's harsh when i spend half that time looking for group!). From the horror stories I hear about WoW-PVP, the lowbie ganking, the corpse-camping, I dont know how anyone can level up to 70 fast! I'd soon throw my PC out the window if after a week I'm unable to reach level 30! I'll stick to safe PvE :)

Well, Gorefiends armour is a lv 70 quest in Shadowmoon...while it is not REALLY easy to find a group for that, there should really be people doing it now. It is "new" content after all.

you'd think right? Tell it to the 17 people I begged to help last night (I hope those basserds are reading this!)- you could hear a pin-drop in that zone. I've actually been stuck on that quest for the last 5 days. And it's not that I log on at ungodly hours...1-3 hours playtime after I get home from work (like the majority of everyone else).

Noone ever responds favourably to begging. That's universal.

I'm sure he asked the regular way first br0d...

One other thing... I'd find a guild with a sizeable population of 70s and join. I know, obvious... but that way you're not PUGing all of the group quests and instances.

I thought RP realms were for more mature players

Correct me if I am wrong, but this gives me the impression that you are a non-RPer who has rolled on an RP server just for the higher IQ average. If that is the case, that could be the reason why people aren't interested in grouping with you. They won't want to play with someone who isn't RPing...

well I'm correcting you because you're wrong. My guild is medium-RP and I've been RPing since D&D back in the early 80s. But to be honest with you, even though it's an RP realm you'd be hard-pressed to find people actually RPing!

And the "begging" isn't spamming the General chat if that's what you think. It's sending out a "LFG for xyz" every 5-10 mins with no response! I've been reduced to the point of begging after a whole year of being on this realm, leveling my second character to 70 and being faced with the same damn thing - nobody to group/instance. The guild is young and I'm one of a tad few 70s - maybe I should look elsewhere for a higher pop guild of 70s instead of forking over $25 to transfer.

Depending on "what" quest I'm on, I'll put up a general LFG for >enter quest title here< ... I'll wait for awhile in that zone while performing other solo quests. If I don't get a response, then so be it. I'll also do the opposite too, waiting for someone to put up a LFG >enter quest title here<.

I get some help from the guild I'm in and certain PUG's work well while some others don't. The Gorefiend armor quest was always a quick response (3 alts of mine have done it so far). Maybe just lucky.

FYI: Alot of people probably don't have their general chat turned on by 70... I don't...

Yeah, I don't think that will change much - you probably jsut want a bigger pool of people to be able to request help from - even if they say no, it's better to have 30 people in a zone to request help from then 10. I'm in a fairly large guild and server and still have those same 15 quests in my log lol Depends on when people who are leveling up get into that area themselves. And don't expect to many replies in general - sometimes you'll get ton's - others it will be dead silent. Athough i have found that linking the quests into the chat is helpful becuase "anyone want to do some group quests" usually doesn't cut it.

I usually have mine off too, unitll I need to use it - thus asking in general may not always work. Sometimes trade works better and even a /yell from time to time works nicely. But LFG for quests won't really work IMO - as people never join LFG for questing really on my server - its just for instance pugs.
