Can you find different races when you play WoW?

I dont know too much about WoW since ive never played it. But for example your a night elf, could you find any other race besides night elf's without making a new character?

each race does have its own starting area (the exceptions are the gnomes/dwarves and the trolls/orcs since the gnomes and trolls are considered without thier own city, they start with the other races) so generally in that starting area you will only see characters of that race (not always....since some people may raid it if they are on the opposing side, or they may come in to do the starter quests for reputation) once you leave the starter area you will run into a mix of the other races for your side (and the opposing side) its not uncommon to see parties of people all different races (actually i think it would be more uncommon to see a party of all the same race, but that happens too, like once i had my undead warlock, an undead priest, an undead warrior, mage and rogue all doing zf)
