Though it's gone through a few changes since this one's been taken, and is sure to go through more changes soon, this is as recent as I've got: http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/7709/003431partybi4.jpg .

If I understand the question correctly, I'm using the viewport options in skinner to change the size of the rendered area. Then eepanels to put the steel texture along the unused space at the bottom.

Hmm. I've been thinking about going back to a design that's centralized around a core panel, like the one above, but I'm still unsure how I should. I love my smoky, cloud-like images and I'd want to integrate them somehow, but I just can't figure out the best way.
Edit: That site's also owned by a company that deals in goldselling. Why the devs here care so much about what parent companies do I have no idea really. But they do, annoying as it is, and all posts from there are nuked whether or not gold ads are on 'em.

Just spent my entire day redoing my UI from the ground up. I'm in love with this new one.
No combat, no target, full health: http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/6374/wowscrnshot082607215818eu0.jpg
No combat, target and/or partial health: http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/4407/wowscrnshot082607215829yr3.jpg
Combat: http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/2120/wowscrnshot082607215856lz0.jpg
Any elements not shown are probably the same from my last UI. The combat timers remain within the HUD as seen in the last screenshot, the tooltip is still in the bottomleft like in the last screenshot. Though in this UI I moved the party frames to center screen, just above the buttons, positioned vertically.

Well thank you guys. (But I do feel it is missing just a little something...)
Though I absolutely hate using UI comps myself and I find it annoying when others go and boast that they were able to download comps in threads along with original UIs, and when they senselessly download comps and remain ignorant of the basics of mod usage and end up running to the experienced users when their mods break, I have been really considering a release actually. Though as of now it would take a lot as my personal files are VERY sloppy and simply unacceptable for public release, and the UI is designed to work only with my UI scale and resolution. Though some time in the future--perhaps when my UI is even better--it may be released.
Edit: BTW, how much do you guys like the textures used? What if I used my own generated clouds (I practiced today and am quite good at rendering VERY realistic clouds and night skies ) and instead animated them, so that the faded night skies actually appeared to move--the clouds moved along and the stars shimmered?
And any suggestions for the ugliness of the placement of buffs and debuffs?
Edit: Party shot, showing party targets, not pets: http://i16.tinypic.com/6fh5aue.jpg
Any ideas on the unit frames placement and the bars used too? (Sorry to go so off-topic.) I rather like the placement but I'm just a little afraid the bars don't fit the UI. What do you guys think?
Thargos
29-08-2007, 01:41 PM
I like your UI jaedx :) But for the unit frames, I'd use the smoothv2 bar texture. And Maybe make the frames a little longer.
Here's my newest, and hopefully last UI until I get my widescreen.

Quite so. Clearly a lot of work has gone into them, though. Tastes vary wildly. Personally, I have very little time for "pretty" interface, and use fairly stark, unadorned interface, with the vital bits splattered in the most handy places, and the more important they are, the bigger and more irksome they become. To some folks, it just looks like chaos, to me it's like that because it's the cockpit :-)
Ok, I know, in Soviet Russia, interface configures you. Neo-brutalist functional interfaces FTW.

Whoa, now I'm feeling all newbie-ish with my close-to-default UI (only extra thing I have there is druidbar).
You fellas got any good suggestions that won't seem completely alien after 1,5 years of the default UI?
Wintrow
29-08-2007, 04:06 PM
It's also an art to enhance the default UI in ways that improve it, but not drastically change it.
If you start with the "clean & crisp" look the problem starts that you have to "do" everything to make it match. Stay to the default look and you have a lot more liberty.
JangBogo
29-08-2007, 05:43 PM
I'm using quite a few mods actually. To name a few:
Bartender 3 (for action bars)
Titan Panel
Mobmap
X-Perl
Sunn Viewport Art
Natur Enemy Cast Bar
DoTimer (essential for warlocks)
Atlas
Atlas Loot
Quartz (cast bar replacement)
Omen (threat meter)
KTM Threat Meter (yes, I have 2 threat meters)
Necrosis (essential for any warlock)
Item rack
Cartographer
Move Anything
Enchantrix
Auctioneer
There's probably more that I'm missing, but that's most of them. Well worth the effort for me. Some will see it as overkill on mods, but I have plenty of system resources to handle the memory usage and I like a very clean, functional, and organized UI.
Locks have WAY too many spells for the default UI IMO.

Here's my mage's, Madeleine of Dalvengyr, brand new one, if I can figure out how to post it.
I downloaded MazzleUI the other day and loved it. Spent hours upon hours trying to get it to work for me, but despite the fact it was using less memory than my former self made UI, I couldn't get the framerate over 5 fps. Ugh! I uninstalled it and took advantage of the opportunity to create a whole brand new UI for myself with new keybindings and everything.
I have a couple of issues though, and I recognize this isn't really the place for it. Well, one issue I'll mention. I'm using Squeenix in place of the default minimap. I cannot figure out how to get the world map button off the top right corner of the screen. I don't use it ever.

What is the policy regarding links to other sites? After reading about Tanitha and Gormash's UI guides that used to be on their now deleted blogs, I found a republish of it on her new blog. Would it be permissible to link to it here, as I found it gave me a good start on working on a UI?

You can link to the sites. So long as it doesn't include info about hacking, cheating, botting, etc (which I doubt Tanitha's blog would include), it's fine.
And if my UI is released it will be a while. Don't wait up on it, and instead maybe grab eePanels and try to recreate some of the things you found appealing in my UI for yourself.

Pretty nice Tharg. But if I may, a little friendly advice: I've toyed around with core center panels like that before and it always looks MUCH better when it's overly neat and consistent. Throw a grey border on the minimap and unit frames, or remove them from the other two boxes, and line everything up perfectly. It'll help a lot. But overall very nice job man.

Are you sure the problem is strata and not level or otherwise? Try making an eePanel and setting the level as low as possible. If that doesn't help, execute the following and tell me if it does.
Minimap:SetFrameLevel(1)
You want the minimap strata low, you just want the eePanel lower, so you adjust the level.
Edit: I noticed the thread for the new eePanels2 release mentions the ability to use "User-supplied lua scripts; ability to add your own lua scripts to perform non-native tasks, etc." I'm going to try this out in a few. It might help me out and may be what you're looking for to fix the minimap issue.
NOTE: "Old layouts incompatible." "Don't try to use eePanels and eePanels2 at the same time."
Thargos

If you want to place panels underneath the Minimap the Minimap will need to be above them. So if your highest frame is at level 1 then the Minimap should be at 2.

Do you want the -map- altered or the -minimap- ?
Minimap, Squeenix and SimpleMiniMap both do the job for the -minimap-. I prefer SMM, but that's personal for everyone.
Simple right click on the Minimap will let you unlock it to move, remove the various buttons (e.g. tracking/mail), reskin it (square/one rounded corner/round) and a few other things.

Tiki - a few more hints:
1) Stuff you don't see to see all the time, but want to use can show on MouseOver.
(E.g. Track Minerals etc etc)
2) Stuff you don't use don't have to show at all.
(e.g. mini menu)
3) If you tie your stances to a mouse button, you don't need them to show.
4) You only need the Coords to show once.
5) Try n size the minimap so it's the same size as that chatwindow and the action bars.

1) Stuff you don't see to see all the time, but want to use can show on MouseOver.
(E.g. Track Minerals etc etc)
I like that - it would clear up my screen a lot more if I could do that with my trades/professions....
would that be doable with bartender? or will i need to get something else?
2) Stuff you don't use don't have to show at all.
(e.g. mini menu)
so I could put key bindings on those for them to show up? I like that....smart...very smart....that'll be good for my bags as well.
3) If you tie your stances to a mouse button, you don't need them to show.
I can also do that in key bindings correct?
...I hope i'll be able to remember all these keys.
4) You only need the Coords to show once.
Ok - I agree. I think it's because I have SO many mods going on (and I don't know what half do) that I have these cords...I'm going to fiddle with this too.
5) Try n size the minimap so it's the same size as that chatwindow and the action bars.
this was my big frustration. I CANNOT change the size of the chat window. I can't seem to find it in blizzard's preference - do I need a mod to do it?
I'm going to fiddle around with eepanels too. I like the look of thragos's witht he boarders and black. You guys can expect to see something new tonight from me ;)
i am pleased at how much I cleared out. a bit more time, and i think i'll have something i really like :)

Right click on the chat window tab and unlock it, then you can drag the edges to resize it. There is a minimum size it will go down to, it's based on the font size you are using.
I use modifer keys to swap my action bars around and don't use the paging feature in combat, so buttons for things that i just don't use often i like to stick on a second page of the main bar. Keeps them hidden and i can swap to them if i want.

Question:
What is a good viable alternative to titan (with most options on) + bongos that may use less resources? With the long weekend coming up I figured I'd mess with my UI some and see if I can't come up with a better fps and layout.

FuBar is way better than titan. And bongos I think uses the least amount of memory out of all the bar mods. Bartender3 would be the next, and then Trinity.

I like that - it would clear up my screen a lot more if I could do that with my trades/professions....
would that be doable with bartender? or will i need to get something else?
Bartender can do it. Hide means the bar doesn't show at all (e.g. the mini menu), Fade means they show on mouse over.
so I could put key bindings on those for them to show up? I like that....smart...very smart....that'll be good for my bags as well.
Or just use OnMouseOver. Most of the stuff is automatically hot-keyed anyway. (E.g. C = Character, N = Talents, B = Backpack)
I can also do that in key bindings correct?
...I hope i'll be able to remember all these keys.
Yes you can. It takes a bit of getting used, but makes life much easier. I specifically went out to grab a 5-button mouse for that exact purpose.
this was my big frustration. I CANNOT change the size of the chat window. I can't seem to find it in blizzard's preference - do I need a mod to do it?
CHAT window or Minimap ? :P
You can unlock the chatwindow (I'm sure you know how ) and can resize it by clicking on one of its corners and then dragging it to resize.
You can rescale the Minimap from the menu or in the same way as the chatwindow.
I'm going to fiddle around with eepanels too. I like the look of thragos's witht he boarders and black. You guys can expect to see something new tonight from me ;)
I like Eepanels too, though I'm still not 100% sure I want to use 'em or not.
i am pleased at how much I cleared out. a bit more time, and i think i'll have something i really like :)
thanks! :)

You can always reset the chat by selecting "simple chat" from the interface options and then unselecting it again. That forces a reset.

Of the non-ace listed mods there, most have an Ace-based counterpart.
Personally I prefer Pitbull Unit Frames, but it's getting on my nerves a bit due a raid bug that keeps persisting throughout the versions. However, since it's pretty much the best one other than that, it's hard replacing it.

My new UI. Inspired in part by Tapestry UI. Bar textures and fonts are from the Tapestry UI pack however all the layouts are mine. Still under construction, things still need some tweaking including eePanels, however this a good preview of what the finished UI (as finished as any UI will ever be) will look like.
Major mods:
Pitbull
Bongos2
ElkBuffBars
eePanels2
ZModDB (and ZuxanaModelCitizen)
FuBar
Prat
All but four of the action bar buttons will page if I click on a friendly player/mob allowing me to keep my heals and blessings handy but out of the way when I am fighting/tanking mobs or PvPing.

Well, yes I am curious to know. I would just like to know how did you get half bars on the top? They look cool :) and the small cube on the top of the map?
I worked so hard for a month in designing my UI ... but when I started playing with it ... it feeled like a headich ... so much information on the screen :( ... I was starting to get dizzy. So I had to remove the bar addons (using blizzard default ones & G15 for extra bars). My map stays on the corner, just like default. :sigh:
Just a side note to everyone (and correct me if I am wrong). All the GUIs here are really beautiful and ofcourse you would like to copy some part of that, just like I did. But do test yourself playing with that UI. Changing my UI completely and then playing turned out to be a really bad experience for me. So I would suggest try to get use to some parts one by one. Do one change or add one UI change and then play for several weeks/days then implement another. I am now getting myself used to Pitbull.
By completely changing my UI in one go proved wrong decision for me and I had to switch back. So right now I think I will make myself used to Pitbull then worry about bars and the list goes on ...

The half-bars are Fubar, you can de-anchor the panels and scale them to any size you want. The diamond above the map looks like a hunter trap mod.
Well, yes I am curious to know. I would just like to know how did you get half bars on the top?
The little-known fubar sizing. If you hover your cursor on the right of left edge of a fubar, the cursor turns into a sword. Then you can drag the edge in or out to resize the bar. So I did that to those two panels, detached them, and locked them in the corners. I have another fubar auto-hidden at top middle that holds all my addon config plugins.
and the small cube on the top of the map?
Just a customized Trinity Bar with an eePanel behind it.

Exactly why I never like the idea of using compilations. UIs are completely about personal preference. Everyone plays differently. Take the time to develop yours the way you like it. I tried out nearly 200 addons to get to the one you see above.

I've been inspired to setup my own ui after seeing so many amazing works in this thread. No original mods or graphics here, and much of the layout inspired by other peoples work, however I did setup everything myself so I am proud of my efforts.
It really does seem to make playing the game so much easier too having everything layed out neatly and a nice clear screen.
This is a combat shot of my freshest work for my hunter:
http://www.moonraiders.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=25&full=true
I am using a lot of mods but the basics:
Skinner
Pitbull
Bongos2
cyCircles
omniCC
simpleMinimap
Omen
Fluidframes
Minimapbuttonbag
Fubar (ant erm countless plugins)
Chatmod
zHuntermod
Ekano's Buff bars
Quartz
Mobmap
Would love any feedback or suggestions to improve it. I may think about working on some textures of my own soon but I am pretty happy with the smooth clean look skinner defaults provide atm. I also just switched from xperl and am pretty happy, pitbull does need some work on the buff/debuffs frames but it has such an amazing level of configuration.
This is the UI I am using on my main. a paladin. Its a lot messier, it was my first effort, many mods are the same main differences are xperl instead of pitbull and sunnart instead of skinner.

Zamboni, I really like the minimalistic approach you've taken! I was wondering if you could list some of the addons you've used. I was especially curious about:
1) How you removed the "bottom bar" (bags, menu etc.) I am using Bongos2 but want to look around.
2) What you used for your actionbars (skinner, plus something else?)
3) What you used for your unitframes (PitBull?)
4) What is that nifty green indicator/dot on your hearthstone button? I suspect it tells you that your stone is ready for hearthing. What addon is this, if any?
I'd like to get my interface as streamlined as yours, though I know I could only come so close since I'd have FuBar displayed. Your screenshot has motivated me to assess my interface setup and try and clean it up as well as make it a bit more efficient, including getting a darn Sphere addon (sphere or henge) working for my hunter. One can hope. :cloud9:

That is Bongos2. Bar1 is on the bottom, petbar is vertical on the right. All the other bars were dragged to middle of the screen and hidden (shift-right click?). The right-side bar is AutoBar. One of the CyCircled plugins provides the glass buttons. The cast bar is hidden just above the LunarSphere. I've also hidden the XP bar since the screenshot. (I can probably ditch both remaining bars and just use the sphere if I could only remember my hotkeys.)
The Fubar bar is at the top but hidden. The unit frames are PitBull, but I just installed it and am still trying to figure it out. The green button is just the drag handle for AutoBar, sorry.
Bongos2
FuBar
AutoBar
CyCircled
PitBull
Chronometer
ArkInventory (bags)
Prat and WIM (chat)
Cartographer
Auctioneer
The four chat windows are overkill, but we're a chatty guild (normal/guild/party/combat). Two of the windows can be replaced with threat and damage meters during raids.

Ah, thank you for the reply. I may have to look into AutoBar; no worries about the green button, I thought it was neat ^^"
I find that I have several of the same addons as you do:
Bongos2
FubBar
PitBull (Switched from Perl)
Prat and Cellular (alternative to WIM)
Cartographer
Auctioneer
For XP/Reputation display, I use PitBull rather than WoW's default bar, FuBar or any other addon. I'm still getting used to PitBull as it is a very customizable addon and I've never worked with a similar addon as Perl's being more simplistic in my opinion. I will take a look at ArkInventory; need to find a good bag addon.
I'll certainly post a screenshot, thanks again for being an inspiration and cheers to everyone posting their wonderful UIs!

I'd have thought that the fact that half the interface is different ranks of heals, not to mention the 11k mana pool, would be a slight hint. The itemrack set called "heal" being visible might be a clue too, along with the two healing trinkets that can be seen. Well, congrats to you.
There is plenty of clickhealing set there- like an entire 25 man raid worth. Your x-ray vision is clearly malfunctioning, because clique is also configured for certain functions too. There are plenty of keybinds configured too, clustering key skills around natural "home" keys prioritised by frequency and urgency of use. Less frequently-needed stuff is relegated to clicks. Judging by your entertaining comments above, you seem not to actually grasp what you're looking at anyway, so I really doubt you'd be a great candidate for improving useability. I'd rather it worked, and produced decent results, rather than failing to understand what I was doing, but gosh darn making it look neat.

Aside. I think the point of a custom UI is for the individual user to play as comfortably as the user can. Even custom UI packages get tweaked by the individual user after initially dropping it into the Interface/Addons folder. Questions and suggestions are one thing, but if a user doesn't want to change and doesn't ask for suggestions, there really is no matter in saying "I could make it better." When the "better" would be determined by the end-user and therefore each opinion will change.
I am playing the carebear who is jumping into something when, aside from slightly contributing to the thread, should probably be minding her own business. I'll simply say: be nice, please?

Wrong.
Just because you're -not- healing it doesn't mean that information is useless to you.
I know you barely hit level 60 (if at all), so you never raided.
There's a certain amount of information that's useful to have.
That said, it'd be fairly easy to tone down Moopy's jumble a wee bit and still retain the needed information.

It's my jumble, and I love it :-) Most of the information is stuff that I use constantly- though the buffs window could be smaller. However, that SS didn't even contain all the castbars, and the great big overheal prediction bar that pops up etc. At raid time, the interface is more like a cockpit than anything, I'm used to sucking down all that information and correlating it mentally to build a working model of the encounter in progress.
However, you make a good point, a lot of the screenshots from OCD-powered interfacesmiths show quite low-level characters. Methinks they made tweaking the interface the game in and of itself, which is kinda my point from another angle. Sometimes you need a lot of crap on the screen when playing the game in extremis, as there's a lot you need instant access to. It's fine to have a small handful of buttons when you're nubbing around Winterspring or HFP :)

I like the bottom portion of this... but am still not too pleased with the top. Fubar is ok up there but I have not been able to find any kind of satisfactory buff bars... using elk's and those aren't the best. This isn't the greatest interface but it is the cleanest and most efficient I have made so far. In the past functionality wasn't great, but with this interface it is better than ever.

As to your UI, give the following tips a try if you want some more free screen space.
1) The wide border around the raid takes up a fair bit of space. Remove it or reduce the padding.
2) The width/height of the health bars in the Raid can be smaller too. Looks like (I think) 200 width now- try 150 on for size. If it's 150 already, go to 125. If you find the names are clipping slightly, drop the font size down by one or two. In general, you don't really need to read the names as much as you need to see the health drop.
On top of that, try to go back to two rows, rather than three.
Not entirely sure which Raid UI addon you are using, I think I see oRa2, but not sure if you're getting the bars from there too. There's several other options available (AG_UF, Pitbull, Grid) which can all be configured to take significantly less space than what you have now.
3) You have Main Tanks listed a few times. Once would do.
4) Focus target does not need buffs
5) I assume you know your own class and level.
6) Chat window can be smaller (especially in width)
7) You don't need the mini menu, nor the bags.
8) CT Buff Mod can be made half as wide and you'd still be fine.
9) Rescaling your action bar buttons to 0.9 or 0.8 would clear up a bit of space too and still give you a big enough area to click/see the DrDmg values.
I could continue, but I think that this should go a long way already :)
Time for me to get into the act. This my UI that I have been working on for a few weeks now. Almost got everything into place, just need some tweaking then I will be uploadiing.

how do we get rid of that?
I wish we could get each buff as a scalable icon with a timer clicking on it.. so that we could move it anywhere, then have it pop back up in that position once it is applied.

Ok, the border is not configurable, and I absolutely do need to see the names, you're wrong- and you're a grotesquesly ugly freak :) When someone gets demons, or tombed, I need to be able to check *very* quickly that I'm in range of them, which involves finding them by name in the raid frames to see if they can be reached, and if not, moving until I can reach them.
Believe it or not, there's a very good reason for wanting to know who's who when you're raid healing. Once you get past the toytown stuff, you need to start acting before health starts to visibly drop (especially if you need to land large amounts of healing with OOMing in seconds, AKA big efficient heals), or your target is essentially doomed. Plenty of bossfight effects trigger, and then after a short delay, WTFpwn the victims, and you need to have your poo together as soon as you get the raid warning.
Being able to find people by name in a raid is one of the most important functions of all, and makes the difference between a wiping raid and a sucessful one in many cases. I am sure if I were to ask the other healers if they minded if I couldn't find them by name, they'd be horrified :)
Not entirely sure which Raid UI addon you are using,
At least one person around here is honest :-)
I think I see oRa2, but not sure if you're getting the bars from there too. There's several other options available (AG_UF, Pitbull, Grid) which can all be configured to take significantly less space than what you have now.
oRA doesn't have raid frames, if you actually read the FAQ. You must provide those with a separate mod.
In any case, they aren't discrete raid frames, it's an integrated clickhealing mod (healbot). I've tried SRaidframes, Grid, CTRA's frames, and none of them offer the combination of features. I have SRaidframes installed, and used it with Clique, but it's nowhere near as useful.
3) You have Main Tanks listed a few times. Once would do.
Wrong. The other MT display is for seeing who the MTs' targets are targetting, for emergency healing, as well as getting an overview of what the MTs are chasing to be pre-warned about incoming damage profiles- not for healing. They *can* be used for healing- but usually only get used for quick chain healing of target's target, which is a great deal quicker than looking for that person in the main raid window- it'd be worth twice the real estate in terms of lives saved. The ones in the main clickhealing mod are for day to day casting. They perform an entirely different function and both are needed.
oRA2 offers a compact version of this display, which is nice to use in some fights. However, in some, the actual game is providing such a furious maelstrom of crap that it makes it hard to see the interface, so I actually turn the size up some of the time.
4) Focus target does not need buffs
Actually, it does, when you're looking to see if people are keeping HoTs and the like ticking on your focus (which is often my assigned tank). If they're not getting the short-term buffs they need, heads will roll.
5) I assume you know your own class and level.
No, I bought it on ebay, still wondering when I get that Succubus thingy.
6) Chat window can be smaller (especially in width)
Nope, the healing assignements and the like come formatted by a macro- and they take up a fair bit of space. I'd prefer it didn't get wrapped, and I didn't have to scroll about mid-fight. Speed > all.
7) You don't need the mini menu, nor the bags.
[QUOTE=Aerath;4046621]
That's a value judgement. I actually rebind quite a lot of the keys which map to that crap, so I'd prefer it to stay there. What's more, it's hardly any space at all.
[QUOTE=Aerath;4046621]
8) CT Buff Mod can be made half as wide and you'd still be fine.
Yep, I did that :) Agree there.

Well, maybe when I get around to editing the config files, this will happen. The stupid fscking slider in the ingame interface lacks numbering. Blame the patch. I seem to always be wanted for an instance when I am ingame, but I agree with you on this one.
I could continue, but I think that this should go a long way already :)

You don't need to see Moopynatorthegreat - Moo will do.
Other than that, Class coloured names are good enough to quickly find people
And even then - in the setup I use, there's still names showing and easily legible too =)

I always am. I find it too much of a hassle to try and remember what lie I told this time.
oRA doesn't have raid frames, if you actually read the FAQ. You must provide those with a separate mod.
Only use it because of the MT window, to be honest.
I don't have any experience with Clique other than seeing the name listed.
I do have experience with raid frames, and quite a number of them can be made a lot more compact than your current ones.
I'd wager that with a bit of tinkering these can be made to take up less space as well.
Wrong. The other MT display is for seeing who the MTs' targets are targetting, for emergency healing, as well as getting an overview of what the MTs are chasing to be pre-warned about incoming damage profiles- not for healing. I have those stuck together:
[Main Tank] [MT's Target] [MT's Target Target]
Saves me from looking at different spots of the screen.
Actually, it does, when you're looking to see if people are keeping HoTs and the like ticking on your focus (which is often my assigned tank). If they're not getting the short-term buffs they need, heads will roll.
I still don't think I'd personally be interested in them as healing isn't a solo task unless you're specifically given someone to heal - in which case they're likely your target as well for most of the time.
Probably a matter of taste, but you could filter out the buffs and leave the heals standing.
No, I bought it on ebay, still wondering when I get that Succubus thingy.
I hear it's a class quest in the Barrens.
Nope, the healing assignements and the like come formatted by a macro- and they take up a fair bit of space. I'd prefer it didn't get wrapped, and I didn't have to scroll about mid-fight. Speed > all.
Use less -------s in your macros
That's a value judgement. I actually rebind quite a lot of the keys which map to that crap, so I'd prefer it to stay there. What's more, it's hardly any space at all.
Then bind some new ones to [C]haracter, [N]Talents and [shift]+[B] (all) Bags. Hardly any space is space too.
A lot of hardly any space makes for a lot of space.
Yep, I did that :) Agree there.
Woot. Score 1 for the wolfguy.

You can enable the UI scale thingy and type /console uiscale 0.9
This will, however, resize your entire UI, which you likely won't want to do.
I expected you to use a bar mod of some sort, which all have that option.
Well, thanks for your time, at least two of your points were valid- and the whole lot were far better-informed than some folks :-)

Whilst I can imagine you not liking the look, it's very easy to see where what group is and setting the health to show damage taken instead of health remaining should make life a bit easier on you too.
It shows the groups, shows the names, lights up for range checks...
Caithlyn sets it all to a single colour, but you can have 'em coloured by class as well.

EEpanels 2.
I found I couldn't use a solid background all the way across... made me dizzy. I did something like this, changed a few things since then, including font but this is basically it:

Cool thanks Rgirty - Switched around my UI massively yesterday - playing around with it ans was gonna get used to it. Guildies asked me to tank a run and I was like...ummmm...ok.
Screwed up so many times but luckily it was running some 60's through Ramparts so nothing too serious. Only person that died didn't get out of the way of the flames on the dragon.

it takes me around 8 hours to configure my interface anytime we have a patch that breaks things.
HOwever, i would not be nearly as effective without my setup the way it is.

That's what I was working on. Wanted something clean and efficent, but still had the base UI. Just have to get used to it now, and get things like a good enemy cast bar (X-perl can probably do it, just haven't looked around all the options - just want a seperate bar near the center of the screen, as I don't focus too hard on my health or the mobs health - check after big hits is all and who has aggro). Found alot of things I like from this thread.

Quartz is great if you want to reconfigure/redesign your own cast bar too, otherwise I think naturEnemyCastbar is still being updated and is a more simplistic solution.

From the UI FAQ Sticked on the front page of this forum:
Making A Compilation
(The following section was written by Xinh with some minor edits)
This is easier than you might think. If you have the mods in your AddOns folder then follow these simple instructions
* Copy the Interface folder (the parent of your AddOns folder) onto your Desktop or something other working area.
* Now dive into the copied AddOns folder and weed out* any mods that are unnecessary or are personal mods.
* Now zip up that Interface folder (the copied one) using your favorite zip utility (or Rar in my case) and upload.
* If you are including mods that need dependencies (like Sea, Earth, Khaos, etc) or stand alone libraries (Ace2, BabbleLib, Threat1.0 etc) then make sure you include those in your AddOns folder.
If you want to include your UI settings then you want to include your WTF folder in the zip file. Just make sure to change the ACCOUNT, SERVER and CHARACTER folder names to something generic (like "YOUR ACCOUNT", "YOUR SERVER", "YOUR CHARACTER") and remove all but one CHARACTER folder (unless you are including different settings for different classes, in that case name the folders accordingly). You may also want to include a text file listing the files included in the zip, and install directions. Then zip up the complete folder and upload. Your file directory should like this (name used are just examples)
MyUI.zip
ReadMe.txt
Interface
AddOns
AddOn No.1
AddOn No.2
WTF
Account
YOUR ACCOUNT
SavedVariables
SavedVariableFile1.lua
SavedVariableFile1.lua.bak
SavedVariableFile2.lua
SavedVariableFile2.lua.bak
YOUR SERVER
YOUR CHARACTER
SavedVariables
SavedVariableFile1.lua
SavedVariableFile1.lua.bak
SavedVariableFile2.lua
SavedVariableFile2.lua.bak
Config.wtf
Why use the Interface (and WTF folder if included) folder as opposed the AddOns folder? It makes it real easy for your users to install as all they have to do is drop the unpacked Interface (and WTF folder if included) into their WoW directory. If you do include the WTF folder then your users also have to rename the files I listed.

I won't get into a fight, re: titan VS fubar - I hate fubar, that is all there is too it.
Viewport: I like seeing a lot, just personal preference I suppose
I was used to Titan too and disliked Fubar, but if you spend some time on Fubar, you will find there is a lot more handy stuff for it and you won't get the random weird lua errors titan stuff will give you.
And with the Ace updater, it's effortless to update and get new additions.

Indeed, unless there's a specific plugin you prefer on Titan which isn't available on Fubar, I'm yet to hear of anything that Titan does with Fubar doesn't.

Now if I understand right, if you want something kind of like Serenity take a look at LunarSphere (http://moongazeaddons.proboards79.com/index.cgi?board=lunarsphere). It gives you a Necrosis like circle, with sphere's around it that are fully customizable.

I've peeked in this thread before but this morning I went through the earlier pages. Has anyone noticed that about 70% of the UIs posted here are Warlocks? Do we just need custom UIs to handle the numerous spells plus pet stuff? Or is it that the UI tweaker personality is somehow conducive to playing a Warlock? Is it one of those chicken & egg things?
I'm almost happy with my Warlock's UI after about three major revisions. I'll post its current state when I get home today.

The need for UI's is dependant on the class I'd say. On my priest I didn't bother a lot with it, besides tweaking all the Ctraid stuff for raidhealing (before TBC and Grid etc).
On my lock I started using Necrosis because the amount of buttons became overwhelming. And on my rogue I felt the need to move the health bars to the middle center because you have to be on the ball with health, energy etc. with the fast paced style.

Anybody know how?

As I recall there's group anchors that you enable via the FuBar menu, then you drag those. If it's not working then some other addon may be interfering.

I believe you have to go to the settings in the menu and go through each group and turn the anchors on. From that point you can click and drag the anchor around where you want it... Just make sure you turn it off when youre done, lol. Hope that helps

I havn't posted much in this thread (1 post I think), but I've been looking over it for ages. At first I was surprised to see how few made custom art to go with their UI. Everywhere I looked it was the same addons, over and over again. And often, the UI's would looks almost identical.
I'm a photoshop user, and I have been for a long time. Though it's not until recently that I started doing actual art (sigs ftl =.=, just took a while to realize it). Now that I actually DO custom art and stuffs, I realize why so few have the custom art I was expecting when I first got here.
Making something from scratch is one thing, but making something that you feel is right for you UI, that isn't in the way, that is actually functional and not just in the way. It's not as easy as I expected. *slaps forehead* xD
Anyways, I'd just like to say Kudos to all those who put a whole bunch of effort into their UI.... (personally I do, and I'm currently working on some custom stuffs, but school is usually in the way =.=).
So Yay! to all of you ^^ (and yes, this was sort of "spam")

Judging from the image (assuming no cropping or scaling) his resolution is about 1152x864 (can't be exactly that since it doesn't match any standard resolutions), which would put his screen in the 15" plus range. Nothing particularly amazing, really. I've got a 17" WUXGA screen at 1920x1200.
