i downloaded wow and started my account that way. i was wondering if their was a way i can copy that file to a dvd so if i had to reinstall wow i can us the dvd instead of the downloader.

Just burn the file to a DVD, Windows XP has native DVD writer support though I've never used it. You will of course need a DVD writer drive (not the same as a normal DVD drive).
Last time I checked you have to buy a boxes copy of WoW once your free trial runs out anyway so you'll end up with it on CD regardless.

I think he means he bought the game online as a direct download so I don't think he will get a disk.
Another alternative is to just go buy a copy of the demo for $1.99 at most gaming stores. It has all the install files on it. Does not matter that it's a demo as long as you have a full account.

Once you have it installed you can simply copy the entire folder around. There is no requirement to install it beyond the first time. So do not waste $1.99, simply create a backup of your current WoW folder on a DVD.

i got the game when bliz let you download the game and buy the cd key online. sorry if i wasn't clear i was in a hurry my computer was dieing slowly yesterday and i wanted to backup as much as i could. my power suply was going out and it took out my vid card but i think i got it under control know.
anyway what i wanted was to backup just the original wow and patches if i could because i have the bc cd. my wow file is 8.91 gb, and the dvdsi have are only 4.7gb

Well yes, you can just burn the file to a DVD for storage as with anything else :) .
