Hi,
Just purchased and installed WoW but my problem is that I get the "Disconnected from server" message every time I try to log on. If I de-activate my Norton Internet Security program I dont have any problems logging on to WoW.
I have followed all the various guidelines regarding connection problems when running Norton Internet Security like adding ports etc. but nothing helps.
I have tryed to connect directly to the modem instead of being connected via the router, no help.
Please help me, I dont know what more to do?

This is maybe not as helpful as it could be, but what possessed you to get norton in the first place.

I use AVG antivirus free version and the free version of Zone alarm having switched from norton and find them to be much better with regards to memory usage and overall security protection and I do not get disconnected from WOW either.

The reason is that the Synantec Norton application was included when I purchased my computer.

Then uninstall it and get the two packages he mentioned. It is truely a useless product.

Yes really, Norton is complete garbage. Please do not use it, even if it is free. Although the corporate version is halfway decent though.

Corporate is more than halfway decent, you just have to know how to set it up properly.

But I agree, if you want a free one get AVG, but if you don't trust that and want to buy one, I would recommend NOD32, I use that one myself.

Hi again,
If someone can convince me that WoW and Norton doesn't work together and that its impossible to set up the Norton application correctly, then I will uninstall Norton immediately and use something else...BUT there must be thousands of WoW users out there using the Norton application and playing WoW without connection problems. The questions is, why can't I connect to the WoW server when running the Norton application?

I have defined the correct ports.
I have set up separate rules in the Norton "Advanced Firewall" how to handle the incoming and outgoing connections.
I have added the files Launcher***** and Wow***** to the list of firewall permissions files.

And by the way, my Norton is the corporate version, one month ago I extended my license for one more year, unfortunately.

there must be thousands of WoW users out there using the Norton application and playing WoW without connection problemsThere are thousands of people doing a lot of things, doesn't mean they're all doing the best or easiest thing. Why mess around trying to fix a problem when you could just remove the problem altogether and get a better product out of it at the same time anyway?

I case I go for the AVG antivirus free version and the free version of Zone alarm, do I have to make a complete uninstall of Norton or can I just "put it on hold"?

A less elegant way to put it- "eat s***, 10 billion flies can't be wrong" :-)

You should do a complete uninstall of Norton. Else it'll conflict, even when one is switched to a passive mode. We wouldn't be having such a unanimous opinion against Norton if it wasn't such a pain in the butt. I have a valid, free copy from my uni, with a twelve month subscription, every single year. I already went through the torture, it's just a bad system. Can't bring myself to use it, even if it's free.

Nod32 or AVG are both excellent anti-virus software. Zonealarm is a very good firewall. Combine either Nod32 or AVG with Zonealarm, you've got something which is harder to crack and either to configure than the current security.

My connection problems are solved now.
I uninstalled my Norton application and installed the AVG antivirus and Zone alarm and everything is now working just perfect.
Thanks a lot for your help and support!
