View Full Version : Random disconnects

Hey all. Lately I've been experiencing quick disconnections at random intervals from the game.

These are very quick, very sudden, and occur even though I have good latency. I use no mods outside of Group Calendar, Omen, and Deadly-boss mods.

The message that comes up is "Disconnected from server", and when I enter my information again, I can immediately log back in, with no delays at all. I have two roommates, all on the same connection (I have a hardline, one of the others has wireless) and neither of them report similar issues.

There are only two possibilities as I see it. One, I have recently built a new computer. The new components are an Asus M2N E SLI motherboard, AMD 6000+ Athlon processor, and two 1 gig sticks of Kingston Hyper-X DDR 800 RAM. To round out my specs, I'm also using an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS, a Seagate 320g SATA hard drive, a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card, and my operating system is Windows Vista 32 bit.

All my drivers are up to date (that I'm aware of) other than possibly my networking adapter, which is the nForce built into my board and I'm having trouble finding the latest drivers.

The only other issue that occurred around the same time was the release of the latest patch, which has messed up my raid UI (had to delete my group bar settings). Unfortunately, both the patch and finishing my new computer occurred on the same day, so I can't be sure which is the issue.

Any help you all could have would be great! Let me know if you need any info, I'm more than willing to help figure this out for myself and anyone else with the problem.

Does it happen when you zone into instances? BG's, Champion's Hall etc.? Because since the latest patch hit, I've been having disconnects like you describe them, when I zone into things.

It's a long shot but have you checked the system log for any errors that show up when this happens?

Control Panel -> Admin tools -> Event Viewer
or
Start -> Run -> eventvwr [type that and press enter]
Then choose Windows Logs and have a look around there to see if anything is giving an error when it happens.

First, to Memkel, it actually does not seem to happen when I zone in anywhere. It's seriously random, I can be out in the middle of the world, looking for ore, or in the middle of an instance healing during a boss fight.

To Tunga, thanks, I'll check it out if it happens again.

For anybody having similar problems, I downloaded the latest nForce drivers from Nvidia's sight, which is very complicated. Apparently, the nForce 500 was not originally named as such, and to get the drivers for it you need to look up drivers for nForce 4 AMD. Confusing, but I have found and installed them. I was on WoW for over 40 minutes after having them installed and did not have a single disconnect issue.

I will keep everybody updated on anything I find out in case others experience this as well, and I appreciate any comments or feedback along the way!

Yeah, that's pretty weird. I hope the drivers will sort it out for ya, let me know how it goes! :)

Well I'm still having issues though the seem less...frequent. I have yet to check the system log, mainly because I'll be mid-raid and will forget, but when I get a chance to look at em I'll see if there is anything there.

Just note down the time when it happens and check later. If it's a driver/hardware/windows issue it may well show up there.

Since the last patch I've noticed quite a few times where I'll get out of sync with the surroundings (both mounted and unmounted). Latency hasn't been noticeably worse, but the server will think I didn't make it around the tree roots (for example) while my client did. A few seconds later, Bliz's anti-hacking sanity check realizes my toon is telling them that it's past some threshold of distance away from where the server thinks it is and - poof - disconnect. Log back in immediately and I'm standing behind those tree roots that I thought I'd passed 5-10 seconds earlier.

I have the exact same issue you are having. I am still awaiting Blizzard tech support to give me a legit reply.

so far nothing, I have run trace routes for them constantly, and went over the steps they advised for network issues.

I have no router, I connect directly to my modem. DSL provider Qwest on the west coast.

I get disconnected randomly from 2 min - 30 min, while playing. It ALWAYS happens.

This is the kicker tho, I play my other chars on Firetree server perfectly fine, nothing ever happens with them.

Only my chars on Mal'Ganis and Onyxia are giving me these problems that I know of.

I assume its something with our ability to connect to the specific server location(geographically). No fix yet, I've asked if I can get a free transfer to a server that does work with my ISP. No word yet i'll keep you posted, but if anyone knows a fix on this please let us know. I doubt there will be though, because i don't believe this issue is user related. Its something with the WoW server and the hops taken to get there.

Long shot but anyone logging on to your account would be "random" disconnects suddenly without warning. Also check your cables and connections - if the cable has an extremely light short it can cause sudden DCs and be able to reconnect instantly. Maybe try a different cable/port on the router. Some routers (netgear most noteably) have a history of random drops and pickups. A failing NIC can send broadcast storms wich will drop you (though they offin show alot of lag beforehand) Maybe try diff cables/router if possible (walmart will sell you a router and return it for no good reason O:) ) If i think of anything else ill post it.

I had had the problem for months after switching to DSL (ATT). I upgraded firmware set some things on my Firewall (RV011) and nothing helped.

I changed the PPOE client from the DSL modem to the router and that instantly fixed my disconnect issues. All is well. I would try using the PPOE client on the router and not on the DSL modem.
