Peel off items in a stack?

Suppose I've got a stack of items in my bag and I want to get out just one and trade it or auction it. What do I do? I thought one of the little tips on the opening screen said you could shifti-click it, but I tried that and it didn't work. At least it didn't work trying to put it in or get out of bank. I haven't tried it with the trade window. How do I do this?

Never mind. I figured it out. I was click-dragging the items, I needed to just shift-click and it opens a little window in which I input a number. Cool.
