Hello, I have been playing WoW for around a month and I am a serverely indecisive person. I have a 22 Dwarf Hunter, a 19 Human Paladin, a lvl 11 Druid Night Elf, a lvl 10 Gnome mage and a lvl 8 Gnome Mage. Everytime I make a character there is something wrong, my pally was pure prot to become a tankadin but then everyone said pure ret is much better so I made a Dwarf Hunter, but they just arent for me. I made a Gnome mage a while ago, but people said that I shouldn't have rolled a gnome.

So anyway, I am lost, just totally lost.

I have been thing about making a pure prot human warrior, but I am really not sure what to make. I know the choice is mine, but I am so tired of wasting my time trying to make a good character. I like Night Elf Druids, but I don't know if I should do Feral or balance. (Many people have very different opinions.)

Are warriors fun? I am interested in High Def, Good Attack, and High HP. Isn't that pretty much what warriors are?

What class would you reccommend for a beginner, which the class isn't too complicated with choosing professions, talents, etc.

Thanks for all the help.

Sorry for the double post, but I am thinking about making a Human Mage and maxing out his Fire talents to lvl quick and then reset at a higher lvl and distribute them to where I need them. But i'm not sure.

Hunters and Warlocks level faster because it is easier to solo. Tanks and healers are never waiting for a group for instances. you really have to find a character that you enjoy. I detest playing warriors and have a friend who plays nothing that doesn't melee. Find your bliss only you will know what it is. Oh and don't delete all your characters you may revisit them later when you learn more about the game.

Hey!

It sounds as if your biggest problem is that you listen too much to other people. Everybody have their opinions on the classes, and everyone’s opinion is different. There are a few things that stay the same (like: if you don’t like to heal, it’s better not to roll a class that can heal), but you will generally find someone who is against your class/spec/race choice no matter what you choose.

Why not make a gnome? Gnomes are great at PvP, they have great racials. Their only problem is shallow water (where everyone else will ride through, you will have to swim through). Sounds like the person who told you not to roll a gnome, just disliked the class. Oh… if you are on a PvP server, you will get ganked a bit more. It’s just one of those things.

Basically, this is your choice. You can ask for advice from other people, but if they say that you made a bad choice, ask why. Don’t just take “don’t play a Druid” for an answer :P.

Hey, thanks for the advice.

I am between a Human Mage and a Human Warrior.

If I make a mage, then I will put all points on fire talents and then respec later when I need ice and stuff.

If I make a Warrior, I am not going prot until 60, I heard to do other talents until 60 and then respec. My only problem is, is I don't know which talents I should put points into as a Warrior, fury or arms?

You might want to start in the Warrior guides sections, and then move onto the Warrior forums.

If you do play a human, just keep in mind how the male characters run. If it doesn’t bother you, go ahead :P.

I must say, I find it rather strange that you are stuck between Mage and Warrior. The two play styles are completely different. A Warrior will always run towards targets, and be in the thick of battle. A Mage always tries to have some distance between himself and his targets. That’s one of the reasons I dislike playing hunters… I hated running away from stuff in order to kill it :P.

Good luck in whatever you choose. Try to get your character to level 30 before you make the decision to drop him/her (most people say level 20, but I prefer 30. You get a lot of cool spells/abilities between 20/30 that makes or breaks a class.)

Can't say I've ever noticed, but it can't be any more silly than the way a female Draenei runs (gotta love your 1h weapons clipping right through the thigh bones, too)- but at least they don't have enormous vision-blocking shoulders and a massive pie-head, like the males :)

OP aka Dan:

Absolutely right, don't go prot until 70, I'd say, in fact. There's nothing to stop you being an arms/prot or fury/prot hybrid though, for tanking Outland instances more easily. Thing is, at 60, you're going to be questing heavily, and this will get really boring as full prot. You can tank all the pre-heroics without being heavy prot anyway. You can always spend enough points in prot to light up Defiance, Improved Taunt and Improved Sunder Armour, which will make tanking noticably easier, anyway.

Arms or fury are both nice for levelling, just the way you itemise varies somewhat. Arms depends on weapon base damage quite a lot, and a big 2h is key. Fury tends to involve DWing. Low-level fury can be a bit frustrating though, due to the lack of +hit on low level/old world gear (you have a 24% base chance to miss). I'd say fury needs more up-to-date gear on the whole, and depends more on your chraracter's attack power.

However, it's not that crucial at low levels, both work, both are fun. You'll find more info in the warrior forum.

Agreed with Kugan and Moopy.

In addition, don't get hung up on talent specs, remember you can change specs (admittedly it costs increasing amounts of gold but you can change) and try things out to see if they work for you.

There is no spec that is "better" than another, for a Paladin the Retribution Tree is not better than the Protection tree ... it all depends what you want to do and how you want to play your character.

Like Dhoum said, retribution for a paladin is definately not "better" than protection. It's easier to solo because it is faster to level, but that doesn't mean it's better. Same with the gnome comment, I don't understand why anyone would tell you that you shouldn't roll a gnome unless in a jesting manner.

In short, asking advice is always good, but don't just follow it blindly. Keep in mind that a lot of people just don't know what they are talking about, even if they might sound knowledgeable. As Kugan said, don't listen to people too much, also because you play your own game for your own fun. If you were enjoying that prot Paladin you shouldn't have turned away from it because people said "it sucked".

To answer your second post: yes, changing specs at a higher level is regularely done, for example protection and retribution for a paladin. As I said, retribution paladins generally level a lot faster, so a lot of high level protection paladins have been retribution specced in their early levels.

Speaking of Prot Paladins - I do recommend going Ret until lvl 35 simply because leveling is a LOT easier. Respeccing to Prot at 35 is fun though, because you can do the full on AoE prot where you are running in and grabbing up a bunch of mobs at once and taking em all out. Nothing quite like it.

It doesn't really matter what anyone else THINKS you should play - you should play what YOU find fun.

A lot of people have told me I shouldn't go prot pallie - I shouldn't go balance druid - yadda yadda yadda - but the fact is those specs are FUN and they are what I want to do. If you work hard on simply becoming good at playing your spec you will find yourself outperforming many people who take the "recommended" specs simply because most people really don't know what they are doing and don't care enough to find out and change their tactics.

Play what YOU want and find fun - don't be afraid to respec and try something else - and then study to learn good techniques for playing that style.

I had many people in these forums telling me that I was making a huge mistake taking leatherworking as one of my beginning professions - I heard all the people telling me how stupid I was and that I wouldn't have money for my mount etc...

Well I learned how to use the AH and when I hit lvl 40 I was able to make most of my own gear and it was better than what I was able to get questing or from drops AND I had twice the money I needed for my mount. Not only that I ENJOYED what I was doing. Far more so than I think I would have just doing gathering professions and selling what I gathered. Just an example.
