1. A mage is good for PVP because they have Polymorph, they have blink to get out of stun as long as their blink is up, fire mages tend to have overwhelming firepower and a change to stun at expense of survivability while a frost mage does decent damage but has plenty of control options, e.g. frost nova, chill effects, and survivability (ice block). However, they are not the best. In fact, no class is the best. Any class can beat any class, but the degree of difficulty depends on what you are facing. For example, a mage facing a good rogue is going to tango, a mage vs a warrior would be an easy win if the warrior does not reflect your spells and you can kite him, while a mage vs hunter is going to favor the hunter, but depending on situation and chance, the mage might just win.

2. Arena has a place for any class. Mages can either provide their team the DPS (fire mage, but get ready to exhaust your healers), or the control (do nothing but throw frost novas and polymorph), or a balance of both.

3. This is true for fire mages. In some cases, they will be top DPS. But if you are in a guild filled with very good players, do expect frustration to see that rogue or that hunter beating you in DPS.

4. All classes have the potential to be fun. It depends on who is playing it and his taste in playstyle.

Also, different classes have different difficulty curve. A shaman is expected to know how to adapt, a rogue has to learn to stunlock and what to do once the target gets out of stunlock, a warrior has to learn how to stance dance and etc. etc.

IMO - there is no "best" @ pvp - skills mean more than classs any day of the week - but class does play a small part as what you can counter etc depends on class - my level 32 priest beat a lvl 38 lock in Hillsbrad last night  Fearward ftw!

2. are the accpeted for arenas?

Yes, their burst damage and CC abilities are awesome. Also you get a short term invisibility spell.

3. are they one of the top DPS classes?
Yes

4. Are they fun lol?

Mine is only lvl 29 almost 30 and at that level I have loads of fun with him. I went fire for big crits etc (and you have more direct damage fire spells early on), though switched to ice the other day just to see what it was like and it's fun as well with coldsnap.

__________

Whatever class you pick make sure to read up on it. You need to know the in's and out's - strengths and weakness - lingo - build variations - etc that goes along with your class. But you're here so that's a great start! The other day while discussing a buddies warrior (that just hit 70) - some phrases came up in the conversation that he didn't know - such as TPS and Mitigation . . . these are common for warrior's yet he was unaware of them. So, the point being - learn the class you're going to play as IMO it will make you a much wiser and better player.

One more question.

once at level 70 how quickly does your mana run out? Do warlocks run out slower than mages? i dont want to sit down in pvp at level 70 all the time to drink

It depends on your rotation I would assume (I don't have a 70 lock and mage to be able to compare the mana use rate) but locks have "Life Tap" that takes their health and transfers it into mana. And mages have Evocation which basically fills up your mana bar.

But, Evocation has a 8 min cool down versus Life Tap which is an instant.

You usually don't have to worry about running out of mana in BGs and other PvP, and there are two main reasons for it:
1. You'll be dead before your mana runs out (you're a squishy, you will die easily).
or
2. You will run out of mana, but you will be dead shortly because manaless Mage=Free kill.

Arenas don't last long enough (usually) for you to run out of mana, unless you are up against multiple tanks who can take your most powerful spells, keep going and still unleash a world of hurt.

For what little BGing and Arena-ing I've done as an Ele-Shammie (worst mana efficiency in the game) I've rarely run out of mana before I run out of health. Usually all it takes is one professional stun-locking Rogue to drop a crippling and an instant poison on you and you're dead pretty fast.

seems like everyone says warlock>Mage in everthingErr, no. Darkdrifter mentioned the difference between Life Tap and Evocation, and yes, Life Tap is better when compared to that. But that doesn't mean by far warlocks are better than mages.

I'd say, going with your instinct is the best way to choose a class. If you are leaning towards mage, by all means start one. If you don't like it, you can always switch. Best way to see whether you enjoy a character is to try it out.

Maybe you want to check out this sticky (http://wow.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=384954).

And a warrior attacks slow? What do you mean by that? Try to level a dual wielding fury warrior and we'll talk again. :azn:
