One of the changes listed in the notes for the upcoming patch is that ALL vendors will be able to repair damaged equipment.. Why?

Why should a Food & Drink vendor be able to repair weapons and armor when Blacksmiths who make weapons and armor can not?

This would seem to go against the most basic elements an RPG even for those of us who do very little role playing.

because it is comfortable.

and show me a blacksmith npc who cannot repair items.

From a roleplaying point of view, it's a good point. It is indeed more simple if every vendor can repair equipment, but it isn't very logical, especially since Blacksmith players (I'm pretty sure Elsu meant that) can't do it. A warrior with the Blacksmithing profession going to a Fruit Vendor to repair his axe doesn't make any sense indeed.

nope, makes no sense. But WoW routinely violates basic rules of constructing an internally consistent world. Think of all the "Collect 8 murloc eyes" type of quests... So you kill a murloc and it doesn't drop an eye. They obviously have them... but they don't drop. They don't even drop something like a Damaged Murloc Eye which would be an implicit explanation for why that murloc doesn't have your quest item.

REminding participants that they're in a manipulated world is poor fiction, but we continue because other elements make up for it.

I think its to make WoW Life easier for people. My first memory as a level 20 was running around Hillsbrad for 2 hours looking for a repair (there isn't one there or in any surrounding area)

Actually if you're Alliance there's one in Southshore. But he's behind one of the buildings. That's another of the things that kills me - sometimes they do things like that that just seem... petty. Why put the only NPC in Southshore who can repair behind a building so he's hard to find?

Ah well...

This brings up something GOOD from the patch - repair NPC's will show up on your mini map now :)

There's an Orc by a wagon just across the field from Tarren Mill who does repairs.

I quite agree that it makes no sense at all that a PC Blacksmith can't repair armour and weapons while an NPC who sells nothing but cloth armour can fix plate mail in a jiffy.

Hold it!! THis means that the bread vendor in IF who I never talked to can repair my stuff!! :P

Every character I ever have played/will play is Alliance.

(P.S. thanks for the info so I can exterminate that NPC every chance I get)

That attitude sucks, go fight somewhere your level. Griefing low levels by killing utility NPCs is low behaviour ... even for a PVP realm.

Thank you Snowieken, that is what I meant. I apologize for not being more specific.

Still, while I admit you have a point from a roleplaying point of view, I don't make too much of it. It is more handy, and as clevins said, WoW has other ways of breaking rules of logic.

+5 points for conveinence -10 points for logic....but lets look at this again. If I'm a mage and need to repair why in the blazes am I going to a blacksmith? Will his soot covered fingers be able to darn my Epic Socks of Unquenchable Stench? Does it make sense that he can raise the hem on my Robe of Sweltering Musk? And why is it that I have to go to the Badlands to find a bathroom with nary an outhouse in sight in Stormwind? Better think twice about swimming in those canals.

I thought (nay, hoped) this was gonna be about the Blizzard spell and what ppl thought of it. But no, another "aimed at Blizz"-thread.

Still, I think allowing every vendor to repair is overkill combined with the "Track xxx-vendor" functionality.

I would've expected them to add the vendors to the guard dialogs though.

In southshore the repair guy is behind the house that is to the left of the Inn if you are facing it - on the way to the barn area where the horses are. His back is up against the building - I missed him the whole time I was leveling my first toon there.

______________

One thing to point out too is that engineers can walk around with a

Field Repair Bot 74A

which isn't very RPG either.

Handy is handy - I think blizz is more interested in player happiness and convenience (per the above repair robot for long instances /raiding) rather than RPG playability and realistic type environments (they've proven that it seems). It never seemed that they were heavy on keeping things within the set period, look, etc. which is fine with me as long as they keep the laser usage to a minimum.

He's behind the building because he's at a forge. He's a blacksmith (or an armorsmith...can't remember for sure). From a role-playing perspective, that's exactly where he would be. Forges are hot and smelly. They wouldn't be put out front near the street. And....if you go to Southshore and look, he's actually just a short distance from the stable. Stable...horses...horseshoes...forge...blacksmith sort of go together don't they?

Nothing un-RP about that, AFAICS.

But you're right - the change for player convenience is in having repair NPCs standing outside all the main raid instances nowadays, and most 5-mans.
