Well, youre comparing apples to oranges... Raids are about pumping out as much dps as possible, whereas BG's are about survivabillity. And when you ask about battlegrounds, what level range are you refering to, and what spec mage? Droods are nice in battlegrounds b/c of thier versatility, and a mage played correctly can be very deadly in PvP.

Hi,
I've been playing for a few days, currently I'm a level 6, but I haven't come across a battleground yet. Is only available to higher levels or have I just not found it yet while exploring?
If this is accessible to me already, can someone please let me know how to find a battleground?
Is a battle something you would do with your guild? Or can someone do it solo? What is the benefit of a battle? Experience?
Thanks

You can do battlegrounds from level 10 onwards, in various brackets 10-19, 20-29 etc. Ask a guard for directions to a Battlemaster in any captial city.
It doesn't give you experience but it does give you honour points and marks at the end which you can exchange for weapons/armour.
Hope that gives you some idea, sorry to be so brief but I'm in a rush ^^

I do have a related question... I found the Battleground NPCs (I guess because I'm level 10 now).
For Battleground, do I need to go in with a group or can I go in there solo?
If go in and decide I'm not ready yet, is it easy to leave the battleground?
Thanks

Yes you can go solo. If you want to leave you can type /afk but you will get a debuff that won't let you pvp for a few minutes. Also, at level 10 you will be destroyed, especially because there are many "twinks" that play in the lower battlegrounds and well because you will also be severely under leveled!

hehe, ok thanks I may just wait some more then.
I've level 12 now. So what level do you recommend I attempt a battleground?
Will /afk bring me back to the 'city', or how would I actually leave the battleground?
Thanks

IMO - 16 (or the 6's - for each BG bracket - 16,26,36,etc) is a good time to go as you'll have all but the last spell / skill upgrade for your bracket.
Will /afk bring me back to the 'city', or how would I actually leave the battleground?
/afk makes you leave the BG prematurely and you get a deserter debuff that means you can't go back into a bg for 15 mins. /afk'ing out is when you're just so fed up that you don't care about doing another one for 15mins or you're gonna go offline etc. It's really meant as a bit of a punishment for players trying to get honor without actuallly having to fight (as the game automatically puts you in /afk status if you're away from your computer and not moving for a long period of time).
After the match is over, the BG automatically sends you out (when you select the leave battleground button at the bottom middle of the BG scoreboard) and right back to exactly where you were standing when you accepted the BG que. If you accidentaly close the window that pops up to let you leave (b/c you're looking around etc) then you just right click the BG icon that is around your minimap and select "leave battleground" .
