hi, 10-day trialer here. I've got a problem.
every time I log off of WoW, ALL my settings and configs reset and i have to do everything all over again, every time I log in to play.
yes, I looked to see if my folders were Read-Only. they were.
Yes, I clicked Read-Only and set it to OFF.
it didn't work. I click the Read-Only Button, hit apply when the button is empty. immediately re-open the folder properties, and the Read Only Button is checked again.
*edit* and yes, I do have administrator rights, and that doesn't seem to matter at all.
I've been researching this, and while I am unable to come up with an answer, I DO see a LOT of other people having this problem.
everything automatically resets, and it's going to cause me to not play WoW at all.
can anyone offer a suggestion here?
(i'm posting this here, because apparently I haven't yet earned the right to post on the Official Forums....says I have no characters)

Ok, not sure then. Sorry. I was guessing it was Vista - and then I had a good idea what the problem was.
No idea why XP would do that, though. Sorry.

I was reading the official forums, and the rumor is that someone placed some malicious software in some of the addon downloads on this site.
i dunno how true that is, but it is a plausible explanation for lots of people having the same problem.

Possible - and sucky if true. Another reason I never download any addons ever.

so you don't play with any addons? is that even feasible?
don't you miss out on a LOT?

Completely feasible... The game itself is enough to play perfectly fine - it came with what it came with for a reason, because that's all you need. I miss out on nothing. Add-ons don't do anything you can't do in the game yourself, so I don't miss out on a single thing.

so you have a ingame poker module right in the game ? :P we couldnt raid whibout it...
on a serious note though, you would not belive what addons can do. i would not play whibout them. And if you scan the files you download for viruses, you dont have to be afraid to install something on your pc...
and yes, the game came whit the ability to code addons for it, cause it needs it.

I've had add-ons before and I barely used them. They weren't that useful - so I've not bothered ever downloading them again after I re-installed WoW. Not to mention - I HATE the hassle of them after a patch... Waiting for a new one, or trying to get it to work because it's not going to be updated.

Incorrect. It came with it because it's a useful option for people who want it. Not because it needs it.
Like I said - I play without any. The game doesn't need them at all. I got to 60 without one, and I healed in raids without any. I did perfectly fine on my own.
