Mac help with swimming underwater

My brother has a Mac. He told me he has a "4 button track ball" which he is using. I haven't seen it as we live 3000 miles apart, but he has been unable to figure out the combination of buttons/trackball to let him swim underwater. Is there anyone here who has a similar setup that could tell me what he should do to swim underwater.

I don't have a Mac, but do have the same sort of trackball. But...... when I had trouble managing to swim, I found two things were important. First, make sure the water is deep enough - it will be darker blue where it's deep. Given deep enough water, I find hitting the x key repeatedly got my char down underwater and swimming.
