With the recent rash of phishing sites being posted all over the forums, is there any way that the culprits can be retaliated against?
I was thinking, that since the forum (most likely) records the IP addresses that post the links that maybe the mods can start posting the IP adresses of the phishers.
I'm sure more than one of us would like to coordinate some kind of DOS attack on these buggers.

Absolutely not. Out of the question.
We are not going to engage in any sort of illigal activity. We can and do report information back to Blizzard, infact the moderators have been discussing this for quite a few hours today, and we've come up with several methods, both explicit and discreet. We are in the process of compiling a list of websites and IPs which are the source of these phishing attacks, and will be turning over some of this information to Blizzard shortly.
We are also pushing to raise awareness of the increasing phishing activity, a series of safeguards and detection methods are being devised, although unlikely to be easily achievable, one idea that will be discussed is simply barring new users from posting any website links, but the technical viability behind achieving this is something which still needs to be evalutated.
However there will be no lawbreaking, and there will certainly not be people taking the law into thier own hands and initiating counter attacks. Be assured the problem is perhaps the greatest concern of the moderation team, and methods to fight it are being thrown around quite a bit. We shall keep the community aware of when we come up with a better method, but for now, there is a new sticky to deal with the problem, to inform users so they don't fall for these fakes.

I understand your frustration DrScience but it wouldn't be wise to retaliate in that way (could get Incgamers in a hole heap of dodah too). Best thing you can do is hit alert on any posts of that nature the moment you see it. If no one else has posted in the thread at that point, you post that it's a scam.
I think if all members are vigilant - not vigilante mind you:) - across all the forums here no one using these forums will fall foul to it.
