Sorry all..sad question...but what is an easy way to mark targets?
I want to get into the habit of marking targets so that the group know which one I am sapping / which to pull.
Thanks,
Alga

Only the group leader can mark targets. It's done through the right-click target menu (target the mob, then right-click on the target frame).

Key bind them? I have mine set to:
c = skull
v = cross
b = square
n = moon.
Or are you asking which symbol is generally used for what?

Alga,
I am a huge fan of the "luckycharms2" mod. It only pops out when you're promoted so you can mark, and gives you an oncreen strip with all the marks on- target a unit, click the mark and you're done. Simple, effective.

Usually it's the tank that marks.
If they didn't form the group (and being leader by default therefore), usually because they ask to be made leader to mark targets, or whoever formed the group often assigns leadership to them anyway to do the marking.
At least it's been like this most of the time I tank. I always ask for leadership if it isn't automatically given to me. Nobody seems to have a problem with that. Most people love having the tank mark targets anyway.
Sometimes though, whoever formed the group takes the initiative to just start marking, then I as the tank usually don't worry about not having leadership to mark the targets.
All that matters is that mobs are marked in such a way that the group knows what to do and when to do it. Not really rocket science, especially for regular 5 mans. Good to be familiar with the instance, but not strictly necessary either.
To OP, if you're not the one marking, do tell the group leader to assign you an icon for sap. Soemtimes though, sapping is not necessary so don't get offended if the leader doesn't assign a sap target.

I wonder how it's different for people. I saw someone post on this in a different thread. For me, it's been pretty much...
moon == sleep == sheep
blue square == frost trap
orange circle == shackle

In almost every group I've been in it has been:
Skull = 1st kill
X = off-tank/ 2nd kill
Moon = sheep
Blue Square = trap
Star = sap
Circle = shackle or 2nd sheep, 2nd trap, 2nd sap (if you have more than one Mage/Hunter/Rogue)
Maybe it's a server thing...

This is pretty close to what me and my friends use.
Skull - 1st kill
X = 2nd kill
Moon = pet or Ot
Blue square = trap
Circle = sheep (I think big orange circle stands out the most, so it makes it even more obvious to "DO NOT HIT THIS TARGET") :thumbsup:
Star = sap (sleepy time)
We almost never use the star though. We usually don't need crowd control, since we're pretty heavy on level 70 pallies and I usually aoe tank. Sheep is typically reserved for healers.

The same in almost every group I encounter, even most pugs.
