View Full Version : When to Eat or Drink?

Hi guys,

I find I never use any of the food/water items I currently have, as they all require 18 seconds and sitting or something.

I'm guessing as I level up I'll get some food/drink items that work faster that are probably more useful.

My health/energy is usually restored to 100% shortly after finishing up a mob. Only once did I sneak in a beef jerkey or something before going up to another mob in the same area.

Is there any benefit in drinking/eating these items if my health/energy is already at 100%?

Many items will give you a bonus to Stamina and/or spirit if you spend more than 10 seconds eating them.

are those bonuses permanent?

Most last for 30 minutes.

*edit* None are permanent. None persist through death either, as far as I have seen.

First of all, food is for health and drinks are for mana. Energy for rogues restores automatically, at a much faster rate than health does. Eating or drinking has no effect on that.

If your character is still low level, it is pretty normal that your health restores that fast. When you reach higher levels, though, you will start using food more often to be able to fight continuously. That, or first aid, which works faster than food and is useable in combat between hits, but has a cooldown.

In any case, I hardly used food when I was below 10 since I restored my HP faster than it took me to eat, but after that I use it quite often, even if it's without buffs.

Well fed buff (aka +sta and +spi or X/mps) lasts 15 minutes actually.

you should eat and drink when you get hungry, and or thirsty...otherwise you can perish from dehydration or starvation...and being logged into wow when the police arrive to do the report would look pretty bad for blizz, and they would most likely implement somethere where you can only play for 5 or so hours straight at a time

lol

I wonder if anyone else spends more time 'caring' for their character than their real self?

I'm often so into the game I skip a meal and don't even realize it!

Depends on the level of the food. Lowby food lasts 15 minutes, most high level food lasts 30.

Yeah sit and eat / drink when needed to refill health or mana. Energy restores automatically and rage (warriors) is built up as they fight.

As you get mroe health and begin taking on larger groups of mobs or higher level mobs you'll find that you may eat mroe often, though with my baby rogue (29) I just use a bandage (heavy silk) and keep going. So you almost never need to stop really.

Wow is unlike many other games where you can guzzle health and mana pots over and over (I miss that feature) they are more used when you really really need them and are going to die (which is why they have such a long cooldown when you use one and are so expensive).

Also for your rogue you'll find Thistle Tea useful from time to time while leveling or pvping. It's made with the cooking skill.

you should go here to learn to cook!

www.foodtv.com

they have instructional sections and im sure you can get your level up pretty quickly with patience!

on a serious note, most food items with buffs you can buy off AH for a small price, which is probably why i never learned cooking, but popular items (thistle tea, sagefish delight) sell really well. so you may even make money doing it!

Must be all the stuff above 225 then, that's the highest cooking level I currently have and all of the stuff below or at that score is 15 min. max.

True, it's the BC recipes that are 30 minutes. I think they did that because they learned that 30 minutes is nicer for the players than 15, and it's not like we're talking game-breaking buffs here.

The BC recipes also have a lot more variety. Pre BC recipes often just healing (while you ate), with the majority that had any stat bonus being a STA/SPI bonus. In the expansion, there's no less than three spell damage bonus foods, one or two healing bonus foods, foods with AGI, STR, STA, AP bonuses, and only one I've found that has no bonus, if I remember correctly.

It can last 15 or 30 mins. It depends on which wood you eat.

So what buff do you get and how long does it last for a Knotty Pine?

Haha! Wasn't there a really annoying CSI Miami about that? Right in between the "don't drink alchohol because it will kill you" and the "don't smoke weed because it will kill you" episodes...
