French / English servers

Hey,

I was wondering if there was a way to have a French interface while playing on an English server.

My girlfriend would love to play the game in my server (US Kil'jeaden), but since she's not really excellent in English, she would prefer to play with a french version of the game.

From what I read, if you buy the french version, you can only play on French EU server.

Why is it that much of a deal to have a french interface and play on a server.

I have the English version of Halo 3 and my friend has the french one, and we can still play together...

Oh well... 14 more $$ in my pocket instead of in theirs...

Edit : BTW, I'm in Canada, so french server timezone are pretty bad, and it's not like my girlfriend will play alone on a french server either... And I'm not buying another copy to play with her ;)

I have the EU English client, and I can pick other language servers, FWIW. The items you link in trade won't be in the right language, and hilarity may ensue, but it works.

Maybe changing the realmlist.whatever so that the EU client points toward the US server might be good enough ? However, I'm not too confident about whether it's possible or not.

Right, well, to play on US servers, you need a US version of the game, same with European. You need the right client and CD key. Thus, you could both use an EU client and play on the same server, but your US client won't connect to the EU servers.

I think the problem is that since the market is smaller here (we're like 6 millions total population or something here) I'm pretty sure they just sent a bunch of France french copy over here. So we're stuck with EU key I think for the french version, and US version for the english...

Cause my friend tried to download a french demo version (10 day trial), and we couldn't play on the same server. Unless he wasn't trying the right thing, but he's not a cpu illetterate so my guess is taht he knew what he was trying to do... especially since I was telling him where to go...

Might be something I should ask blizz itself...

I'm pretty sure they have to have a French North American version in order to sell the game in Quebec. Try checking some online stores based in Canada that sell it.

There might also be a mod somewhere to change the language of the UI without changing the client version.

Well I sent an e-mail to blizz, we'll see...
I already have 2 english copy so a mod would be nice, but I don't really mind buying another copy if it is what's needed.

well...you could edit realmlist.wtf to say set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com in a french version as long as you have a EU login i think. Either that or you might be able to select your language in the installation, i dont remember if you can. But i'm not 100% sure that the server will let you log in with a french client however.

It is extremely unrecommended to patch a client on one language to work on a server bank set that operate on another. It usually ends in tears.
