I like the change in some regard, but people will be more easily to dodge a bad reputation.

Anyhow, here are some new notes. Sources removed as always.

We’re happy to announce that through the wonders of modern gnomish engineering, you are now able to change your characters’ names. Finally, you can turn the moniker that seemed like a good idea at the time into something more befitting your true standing in World of Warcraft.

Visit Account Management to begin the paid character-name-change process. The fee is $10 per name change. As with our recent addition of voice chat to the game, this feature is being rolled out across all realms in several phases. The first-phase realms are listed in this forum post. Enjoy this new feature and the subsequent effect that your bold new name will have on friends and foes alike.

* Areas can now be flagged as Contested instead of whole zones, for example the area around Zul'aman will be flagged, and maybe the one around Scarlet Monastery too (This change will affect both PvE and PvP realms). Everything will be made to make sure it doesn't impact low level quests nearby. (Source)

Yesterday's recap

I'm actually pretty excited about the name change. I have an alt that is level 66 that i decided i really didn't like the name. I don't want to delete it so now i can change the name. The big thing to note if you have them on your ignore list, even if they change their name they are still on your ignore list.

And woot for reduced dead zone. Does anyone have any idea as to when this goes live? We looking at months or weeks here?

I am also happy about the name change thing. It will give me a chance to be more creative this time around

Now that *is* unexpected. Ret paladins get to have their cake and eat it :-)
(it does make sense, in that now there is potential for a dps/offtank hybrid paladin).

I'm ambivalent about the name change. It'll be great for some people, but it will also make it much less of an issue to get a bad reputation, e.g. for scamming...
