I'm sure everyone is tired of seeing threads like this, but I am at a loss of what to do now. Yesterday I started the installation/download of the trial for the Burning Crusade expansion via the World of Warcraft website. It got through nearly half of the download (about six hours into it) when an error message for the Blizzard Downloader came up:

"Blizzard Downloader has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Now, I went to the Blizzard Downloader Troubleshooting page and followed this link:

- Are you receiving an error that says "Blizzard Downloader has encountered a problem and needs to close"?
Please take a look at our Blizzard Downloader has encountered a problem and needs to close page.

Which took me to a page that says:

The error message that the "Blizzard Downloader has encountered a problem and needs to close" is often caused by the Nvidia Nforce Network Access Manager. Uninstalling this program has resolved this issue for many players. If you need assistance uninstalling this program, please contact NVIDIA directly.

I tried uninstalling that and I got the same error message. I've since reinstalled it. At the bottom of the main Blizzard Downloader Troubleshooting page, there is a part that says:

- Have you tried all of the above options?
As a last resort, you can try downloading the patch manually from a mirror site.

When I follow that link, it says the Blizzard Downloader has to be working properly to be able to download it from a mirror site. Well, that's what the problem is so how do they expect anyone to do that?

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone has any ideas how to fix this. I've run out of options. I cannot log into the game again until the Burning Crusade download is complete.

Edit: Forgot system specs, though I'm not sure what type of information would be needed:

E-Machines T6216
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Processor 2.01GHz
160GB Hard Drive
2.50GB RAM
Windows Microsoft XP Home Edition

From a mirror should be fine, let us know which patch you need if you can't find a valid link (version and region).

Okay. I followed the link to one of the mirror sites, and when I tried to download the most current one they had available, I got an error message from Blizzard Updater:

Blizzard Updater was unable to start up. This update does not need to be applied. It requires version 2.2.2.7318 of "WoW. exe", but you already have version 2.2.2.7359.

When I try to log into the game, I get the message:

Your account is authorized to use the Burning Crusade expansion, but the computer you are playing on does not contain Burning Crusade data. To play on this machine with this account, you must install the Burning Crusade. Additional data is available at: [www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/download] - With the option to "Return to Login" or "Exit Game."

Clicking on that link is what took me to the first page mentioned in my initial post.

You mentioned version and region: I play in the US region, with the most current version available that I'm aware of.

Edit: If it matters, since I forgot to include it in my previous post, I have an NVidia e-GeForce 7600 video card.

Your account was upgraded to TBC but you dont have TBC installed on your comp. You might be able to find a mirror of that, might be hard tho. If you still have the TBC disks you should be able to use them

I don't have discs, I was trying to install/download the ten-day trial via the link from the World of Warcraft website under my account management page.

It was working fine for most of the day, but about half way through the download (about six hours after it started) the error message started showing up. Now every time I try to start the download again I get the same error message from the Blizzard Downloader.

You don't need that patch, it's already installed. What you do need is the TBC expansion download as you were originally trying. There's a list of patch mirrors here:
http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors
Obviously some of these may be down/unavailable and you should always run virus scans on anything you download.
I don't quite understand the difference between Slim and Full but you want one of those 2.0 -> TBC links from near the bottom of the page. Anyone else know the difference?

I wasn't able to find anything for the expansion through that link. The most recent I found was the same one I tried to download before that gave me the message that I already had the patch.

It looks like my only option now is to buy the discs and just skip the trial.

Two thirds of the way down the page, "Playable Client" is the title, then there's two sections for 2.0.0 -> TBC.

I ended up buying the discs the next day and finishing the download/install that way. At first it didn't take me to the screen to enter the cd-key, so I had to go back and "upgrade" the account via the "account management" page of the website.

The download finished in about ~4.5 hours after starting with the discs, and that is including the updates and patches as well for a total of ~10.5 hours to download/install the expansion. It took ~18.5 hours for the original.

Anyway, playing now - thanks for the help.
