View Full Version : Realm change advantages?

I've been playing BC for about six months and enjoy it. My realm was selected for me by Blizzard when I set up the account and, except for the fact that the AH on it sells really poorly so doesn't make you a lot of money, I have no complaints. Very little lag, few disconnections, nothing to really bother me.

So I'm wondering, what are the advantages to changing your realm? Blizzard offers this from time to time and I'm assuming that the realms on offer are newly created, less populated, and perhaps in some way I don't know, 'different'. Is it worth changing? Would I gain something by it in terms of professions or loot or raids or anything like that? Is there any way to find out what people playing in a certain realm like or dislike about it?

I changed realms because:

I was on an RPPvP server and I didn’t enjoy RP anymore.
Our battlegroup had only four servers, so you ended up fighting the same group over and over and over again in the arena.

Everyone will have their own reasons for changing their servers. If you are happy on yours, then there is no reason to move.

You can create a new character on the server and level it a bit before you decide. Ask questions of the people on the server, and go and look at the forums.

My primary reason was to switch to a oceanic server, so I was playing with others in or close to my time range.

Second reason was to get away from ganking.

(went from 1-63 on a PvP server - Frostwolf).

But yeah, my main reason was so there was people on when I played.

I changed servers two years ago to be with a group of friends.

I had a friend who left a PvE realm and started playing on PvP because he liked that environment better.

But if you're happy where you are, why switch?

I switched from PVE to PVP along with a large batch of my guild.

PVP is Sooooo much better IMO. (Bar the lvl 70 12 year olds who gank newbies.)

Har, not only there, trust me. I've had it happen to me on my own PvE server, how sad is that? I was in a group with someone else and we ran into a lvl 70 BElf at the cemetary in Duskwood. I ignored him, but suddenly he and my companion started fighting so I assumed that he was hostile and attacking. I attacked him as well, and ended up being killed 3 or 4 times before cursing and swearing at him (obviously unaware of the fact that you can't communicate normally with Horde). I had to log off to escape this annoying bugger. -.-
