with the advent of my priest hitting 48 and being 10 levels to the outlands, i just wanted to reflect on the first time i walked through the dark portal.
it was a beautiful time, i still remember the shock of what i saw as i went through, the smell of my food burning on the stove because i totally was engrossed in my adventure.
the first time when i did the bombing run and was flying through the air and saw a fel reaver in the distance....and the first time i got stepped on. horrible....
everyone else do tell about your experience, and how excited you were.
and stupid gold spammers late night are irritating me again.

I remember trying to get to Shattrath… my guildies laughing at me and offering to help, but me wanting to do this by myself.
My armour turning red and numerous corpse runs on the way. Getting into the city (Wow!!!), running around for half an hour trying to find an inn, and being promptly thrown out by guards.
Doing the return journey on my mount, in my red armour, because I couldn’t find someone to repair, and I didn’t have all the connecting flight paths.
Standing by Martin (I think his name was) in Thrallmar listening to his story about the promised land.
Good times indeed.

I remember queueing up to kill a quest mob...
Does that count ?

Following the other 50+ people who went through the portal and ran straight down stairs and very quickly getting killed by the Elites. THe spamming on the genral chat asking how you are supposed to get past before someone notices the Flight master hiding to the side.

I remember the server crashing every 10 minutes and walking through what would normally be waves of trash to pick up quest items. Kill quests were pretty much a write-off until the main bulk had moved off.

The sky seemed terribly big, and everything was vertiginous. Until I got the hang of where everything was, I was terrified of falling off. Shatter point scared the penc out of me. Screenshots directory soon started filling up with sky porn..

I remember being one of the first on my server to ding 61. Then I logged off for the night and returned the next morning to see several 63s

I really enjoyed it, and the rest of the Outland as well. Especially Nagrand, the sky there is beautiful.

the queue at the games shop at midnight.
the guild mates who ask "how are you in outlands ? stores open in 8 hours !".
the empty outlands !
Riding around and spotting lvl 63 elite giants, only to kill them soon after and thinking "bah, too easy"
Finishing all quests in hellfire peninsula before the majority of players starts rushing and camping questmobs aroun 10 AM.
Clearing the blood furnance and the rampards at lvl 60. Naxx gear 4tw :) Boy these instances were easy.
Being the first lvl 62 on the server before logging out for the first time 12 hours after i baught the game.
coming back after some good sleep and discovering lvl 64's allready -.- ( and the crazy french guy who made it to lvl 70 in under 24 hours )
Discovering, discovering and discovering some more.
The blue robe i got for the second quest i ever did in BC and which was better than the T2 robe i was still wearing. Bye bye epics i was wearing for almost a year.

Except for warriors in t3- the rage nerf had hit them pretty hard- the warrior I was instancing with had to go and get his tier 1 out of the bank, to stand a chance at holding aggro at all, the mobs were just tickling him :-)

The 3+ hour fight to get to the portal that started at the walls of Stonard and ended with me getting around 70 kills and at least as many deaths. (probably all of the 60s who didn't get the expansion on our server were camped along that road)
Then standing at the top of the stairs and watching the people run down into the demons.
Then sneaking left and making our way by mount to Thrallmar.
Then killing a night elf that stole my mob and getting a screen full of general chat people yelling at me for breaking "truce".
Then 3 days later realizing truce only lasted till the first wave of allies had finished that zone and no longer needed us to play nice. (same goes for horde, the mutual gankfest was in full swing)
The mushroom forest of Zangarmarsh!
Replacing all of my admittedly crappy (DM/Scholo/Strat Blues) gear that I worked so long on with quest loots and found greens.
Getting the pretty blue dress from blood furnace and wanting to hold it to my chest and make "SQUEEEEE" noises.
My first flight on the bombing runs, my first flight on my own mount, my first Opera event in Kara, my first Nightbane.
Good times Good times!

I got my priest restored - played for a bit and deleted again. I actually really didn't like it.
I'm leveling up a mage now for fun, and I'm hoping when I get to the outlands this time, I can stick it through.

First time through the portal. I didn't see the FP guy there. My buddies were in HonorHold and were like dude come on lets go check this place out. So i walked to the bottom of the stairs and mounted in the corner and proceeded to ride my non epic mount past all those elites and that big dragon lord thing (can't remember name) that is there. I didnt' get far lol and my buddies were like dude!! did you just try to ride past those guys . . . umm yeah is there another way around? lol
My first time getting stepped on by a felreaver . . . why is the ground shaking? uh ohhhh

Didn’t you guys do the quests (that nicely leads you to the flight master)?
I’m really bad at reading quest descriptions as well, but if there’s a yellow dot on my mini map, I tend to go there before anything else.

You'd think so, but I was awestruck at the time and just not paying any attention to the map and more attention to all the activity going on around the area. It was impressive.

Umm, I shall gloss over my quest rage at shatter point then, where I ticketed a GM to tell him that the quest wasn't working, and he very gently poked fun at me for not paying attention to the quest text :)

Being unable to do the forge camp quests for hours because other people kept killing all the demons non-stop wasn't so bad.
Being unable to do "Administer the Salve" for hours because Alliance players kept slaughtering all the sick Mag'har warriors non-stop, however, was.
My turn:
I was a few days late in joining the rush to Outland due to waiting for the pay slip to clear the bank so I could get the cash to buy the game. So I spent the time waiting by grinding several stacks of Runecloth (to get my First Aid leveled up ASAP), selling crap that I would no longer be needing, clearing out plenty of bag space and making sure I had my Finkle's Skinning Knife with me along with fully repaired armor.
Then the day came when I rushed home from the store with my TBC box, installed, patched and logged in. My druid was sitting near the Dark Portal on his recently acquired Black War Tiger (took a long while to grind the cash for the riding skill) ready to roll out. Grabbed the quest that led me to the other side and took off through the Portal. Zoned into Hellfire and my jaw dropped. I gazed out onto the red landscape of Hellfire and the zone music streamed through my headphones. Turned in my quest, grabbed the gryphon and headed for Honor Hold.
The next few hours and days were a blur of killing mobs, skinning mobs, dodging (and getting the **** scared out of me) Fel Reavers, waiting for quest mobs to respawn (HF was pretty much nuked on my server for the first month) running my first Ramparts and Blood Furnace runs with my guild and the occasional corpse run (though that was rare since the Druid would heal himself, go to Bear if he got an extra add and run away if the **** hit the fan). That was a very fun time. WoW is still fun, its my alts now running around HF while the Druid spends his nights playing with the mobs in The Eye and SSC.

Lol, yeah the lag part was stupid! I was one as well to run down the stairs... I took about 100 screens shots of the portal and about 1000 more of the different lands and skies within Outlands.
But sadly, the part I remember the most was the fact my tire 2 items were equal to level 58+ outland items... sighs

haha 2f I can relate to almost every one of these. I was only in tier 2 when we blasted through ramparts in just over an hour with 5 60s. I was like wtf?!?! Thats it?
Frost kited one of those 63 elites to death when I was only 61. Same with that elite horde quest objective guy in the corner below HC.
I was somewhat lucky that there weren't too many people at the store that midnight. I got there at 11 and only about 25 people in line in front of me. 5 minutes later there were about 200, guess I timed that just right.
I remember people doing /who Bloodelf and keeping us updated on the levelling progress of them. Other than that it was very, very full at the Black Gate...

I remember hitting 58 on my Gnome rogue and heading there. I walked through with my already 70 druid friend. It only made the anticipation of hitting 70 higher. Then, I leveled to 60 in a day, realized that Hellfire was lame, then I wasn't so excited anymore.

i did that one wrong ^^
didnt belive that alot of people would show up, so i was at the store at 11:55... big mistake ^^ the entire street was full. FULL. I think i got my copy aroun 1:30 . I was still one of the first of my guild to be online, though.
It was funny, the first night you had hellfire almost for yourself. Questing was fast and easy. The next morning, you had literaly NO mob alive in the entire zone. Everything in any way connected to a quest was camped by at least twice as much players as there were spawn points.
Think that s why they designed 2 starting areas in WotlK. But i think it will not realy help alot.

In 2.3, they have "?" and "!" on the minimap, so you know where the quest GIVERS are also...
Nice feature!

It was the beta, and my Orc Hunter Oguler's evil twin Relugo stepped through the portal, I did a couple small quests in Hellfire, then took my Tauren Druid Xlorep's evil twin Perolx through and wandered around Outland without doing any quests, exploring Zanger (back when there were elites all over Zanger), and Nagrand.

Getting home after a five hour drive to the nearest Gamestop and then spending another five hours on the trail of skeletons from Badlands to Blasted Lands where literally hundreds of alliance and horde were fighting...then getting to 63 on my first day, waking up at noon the next day to see level 65-67s.

They hit hard out there, and there are many more mobs. It's harder to fight without taking adds, so you have to be a lot more careful about who else is around when you start a fight.
I actually went out at 58, then went back and leveled to 60 before returning. Knowing what I know now, I would head into the Valley of Bones and grind the vultures there. The exp in Outlands is just sick, and those birds are pretty squishy, unlike the boars, who are no picnic.
Oh yeah, and when you feel the ground shake and hear an awful screeching sound, run for your soon-to-be-cut-short life, because you're about to get stepped on by a ?? Fel Reaver.

Quest.
Questing in the outlands > questing in old world.
Get some questing addons such as doublewide and lightheaded.
If you gather, get gatherer.
You will gain xp quickly, level, get great items and plenty of $ for your flying mount.

An acquaintance of mine removing the game from his computer, never to play again, because the quest rewards by the time he got to Terokkar made his epics from Azeroth obsolete.

I was on the east coast, but at the time on a west coast server. It was nice being the 2nd horde on my server into hellfire peninsula.
It was also weird that there was kind of a "pvp truce" as no one wanted to kill anyone, but instead level. It was also very odd to not worry about getting ganked.
Sadly, I could only play for four hours that midnight, as I had to work the next day (and that was a miserable day). I made it halfway through 60, but when I got home from work there were already people who were 62 or 63. I've never caught up.

I finally hit outland today, on new year's eve, isn't that cool :)?
And I must say I absolutely love it, I love outland gear!
My gear was so outdated if you take a look at the gear I could get with my first quest.. I dinged 59 today and half past it already..
The quests are quite easy, fun and give lovely rewards..!

It is almost comical how much better the gear is. Every quest with a gear reward has something vastly superior to something I'm using from before.

I remember first heading into outlands a few months ago on my priest, sitting on 3.5k health and maybe 150 spell damage max.
Few days later of random questing, nearly doubling damage and health was quite amusing.
Still one of the coolest moments in all my time playing WoW has to be seeing that big battle that greets you when you first step through the portal.

The only thing I seem to remember is the fact that all my Blues (that Ihad pvp'd so much for) became totally obsolete as soon as I started turning in quests. I just could not believe that the Greens in Outland were so much better. Oh well, I got over it. Great instances in Outland too.

so went into outlands on the priest...making my 2nd trip...had truefaith vestments equiped which is still better than every piece of gear ive seen drop or quested through...right now im at 61 sitting at 358 shadow damage, from my previous 150 or so when i hit outlands, and my healing set is almost to 500 at a cool 489 healing...its night and day once i get that much and my mind blast crits at 1500 or so at lvl 61...which compared to lvl 59 at 150 spell damage only getting crits for 900 or so... instancing my way to 70 seems the way to go...played with a 65 shadow priest with 152 spell damage who thought he was going to outheal or outdamage me after i mentioned his damage was severely lacking...he stated he was doing a lot more healing than i was, until i showed those numbers, where he replied "well maybe i'll start playing like you just trying to top damage meters" so i replied with, sure if you think you can out damage AND out heal me be my guest, but i promise you wont, reset damage meters to start fresh in BF at the 2nd boss room, by the end of the instance i was still number 1 on damage with 150k damage or so, and lead healing with 250k or so, while he was sitting around 90k damage, and 50k healing...i laughed at him, posted the numbers, the rest of the party commented on his lack of damage and healing, and they suggested he roll a prot pally if he doesnt wanna hurt anything. he promptly left group, and i saw him in org running to AH and then to mailbox, and all of a sudden sat at 300 shadow damage... gave him a /clap and a /cheer, and logged
