I told them that hunter pets are bugged, that they attack other mobs when on passive.. This is what was told to me..
Some one tell me how this would change the way my pet is acting? also I'M NOT USEING ANY ADDONS......

Good Morrow Syrphid,
Blizzard Entertainment - World of Warcraft

Thank you for contacting the World of Warcraft Game Master Department.

After some research it appears the issue you are having may be related
to your User Interface (UI). This applies whether you have a custom UI
or not. To help resolve this issue we recommend the following steps:

1) Exit the World of Warcraft to your desktop by logging out of the
game and exiting.

2) If you used an "installer" for a custom UI, see if it has an
"uninstaller" and use it.

3) Inside the World of Warcraft Program Folder, rename the "WTF,"
"Cache," and "Interface" folders to "WTF-Old," "Cache-Old," and
"Interface-Old."

4) Restart your computer.

5) Make sure that you are using WOW***** or LAUNCHER***** to start the
game. Please do not run any UI installers beforehand, as we want to
eliminate them as part of the issue.

6) Upon launching the game, you should see the Intro cinematic movie
and be prompted to agree to the Terms of Use. Once you authenticate past
the login screen, the “AddOns” button should no longer be visible
at the lower left corner of the character selection screen. Both points
mentioned previously must hold true if you should complete the
aforementioned steps correctly.

Note: Please note that upon completion of these steps, all in-game user
settings will be reset to default value, and all customized macros
will be removed.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, please submit a new In-Game
ticket and we will attempt to assist you further.

Thank you again for contacting us. We hope you continue to enjoy your
experience in World of Warcraft!

I got the same thing in a mail and then got the same thing when I called tech support for no rested exp in a couple of inns when the 2.1 patch came out.
EVERYTHING that is wrong is your fault and the fault of any addons...
BUT I don't blame them for this mods probably are responsible for 99% of all problems.

At the same time if its something like you describe or no rested damage in game then that has nothing to do with a plug in..yep that damn bartender made us all wipe last night...I got to uninstall that piece of crap LOL

form mail..ok but phone support...if you can only read a prepared statement and don't even listen to the problem, someone shoot the tard and get me to someone who does.

To the OP, did you follow those instructions? If you did has it solved the problem? If the problem isn't solved then at least Blizzard can tell it isn't caused by an addon or UI mod.

If you didn't follow those instructions then go away and do so.

OP that's a standard response - they usually tell you to trash your old files and then allow the updater to revamp your files. Just do what that message says and 99% of the time it will fix your problem. It could easily be a problem with the standard blizz UI messing up, the same fix works with or without mods.

I
Some one tell me how this would change the way my pet is acting? also I'M NOT USEING ANY ADDONS......

Here's how...

First off, since the GM's were not flooded with "hunter-pet-bugged" tickets, it's safe to assume that the problem most likely exists on your computer, rather than a game wide pet-bug problem.

You stated that you have your pet on passive, yet it keeps attacking things.
That setting is on your interface. Therefore it is also safe to assume that your interface is not correctly relaying the settings you are putting in.

That can be caused by several things. Either your WoW interface settings are screwed up (happens from time to time). Or...an addon installation screwed them up for you.

Thus...tech support gave you all the info you need to fix BOTH of those possibilities at the same time...without having to get into a lengthy discussion with you about whether or not you are using any addons.

Really...why don't you try what they suggested and see if it fixes the problem ? I bet if you took a poll among tech support people...or just good samaritans (i.e. non-professional, but know what they are talking about when they offer help) I bet you would find the number 1 pet peeve would be "people who ask for help and then refuse to try the solution offered before they start ranting about their problem again". :ponder:

Stock silly answer, just like saying something offensive/stupid, and complaining that the response is "hating on" the poster :)

Thought as much. But I thought I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Look, Blizzard people don't know your entire configuration. There is a policy, a strict order of operations that must take place, just like with any other technical support process. You may not like it, you may think it is stupid/whatever, but there is viable reasoning for it. One of the steps they take, is to ensure that UI mods are not responsible for the problem. This is done, by telling you to remove/disable all of your UI mods, macros, and other configurations -- this puts you into a "controlled" state, one which they absolutely know these things are not the cause.

Contrary to what you may believe, Tech Support is about trial and error. try something, see if that fixes/changes anything, if not, then try something else, follow a set course of actions, in order (and hopefully things won't get mixed up along the way, as there are many people working on the problem at different points), and eventually weed out what the problem is. That is all Blizzard is doing here. If you follow what their instructions are, and still have the problem, report it, explain you already have done that particular step, and wait for the next step. Griping because they want you to try one step of the process is an exercise in futility.

Fan Boys You Got To Hate Them !!

what? how is anyone here a fanboy/girl . . . most of us have received that EXACT same type of instruction . . . how does agreeing with that make anyone in this thread a fanboy? And that poster was just trying to help you by making a clear and logical answer . . .

OMG dude just do what they said and it will fix your problem (you could have fixed it already - and not be here). . . and why you're back and not saying thanks for the responses or anything but just coming out with a fanboy comment is retarded lol . . . blahh

Whenever I'm having a problem with something in wow that I think should be working differently, i log my char on another machine.

If the bug persists I petition, if it does not I know it is something to do with the machine on my end.

I keep a laptop with a stock wow install up to date w/patches and 0 addons for testing.

I realize not everyone can do this, but it works well for me.

Well, if you would take a deep breath, and actually rub a couple brain cells together, you'd let Blizzard know that you tried it, and it didn't work (I'd suggest a little more umm.... "tact" in your statements than what you have shown here on this thread), and with luck, you'll find someone who will move you to the next step in the trial-and-error process.

Once again, the process exists to weed out any possibility of these other situations being the cause. It is a guideline that Blizzard's people have to follow to ensure that everything else has been tried, and to figure out the real problem. You can either do what is asked of you, and painlessly get through this (albeit not necessarily at the speed you want), or you can throw a childish temper tantrum and explode at everyone because the problem still exists. One of these options will most likely work, the other just wastes energy.

Tell me why you think its my end?

Simple.......because my hunter's pet works just fine. AND...I'm even using a few addons (although not any that modify my task and pet bar configuration)

Also, I can't believe that you and I are the only ones playing hunters, so I'm also basing my assumption on the absence of any other recent posts about bugged hunter's pets.

Therefore...I went out on a limb and suggested it's probably "on your end".
I even checked with a bookie I know in Vegas and he checked the board and said the odds are 100 to 1 in favor of it being "on your end".

There is NO WAY it is!!

 Oh...well. hmmm...I didn't count on this piece of unrefutable evidence. Obviously there IS a bug that is so bugged it hasn't even bugged most of us yet and YOU have discovered it. Well done !!!

Have two hunters myself, neither of them have experienced this problem. And, I have an assortment of UI mods on my system.

I never said you used a UI mod. I said that Blizzard's Tech Support have to go through a specific procedure to identify problems. It does sound like it is something wrong with your account, but getting all upset and exploding at people trying to offer advice and help, doesn't accomplish anything. You can continue down the tantrum routine you are doing now, or you can actually try to be amicable, and cooperative, to figure out the problem and get it resolved. Your choice.

Tell me why you think its my end? There is NO WAY it is!!

Because it took you until page 3 of this thread before you actually tried the advice that tech support gave you. If you had started the post by saying that you had followed their advice, and it didn't work, that would have been different.

If you are going to criticize the advice before even trying it out, you aren't going to garner much sympathy here.

Now you've tried it, it didn't work, so go back to tech support and see what step 2 will be.
