I wouldn't say going to school is a waste of time...
Sure, it sucks but school isn't a waste of time.

I go to University for myself, I went to school for 12 years with no purpose and 1 year with the purpose of getting a score to do what I wanted at University ><

Too bad most people aren't born fully educated and can skip school to be accepted at University right away, Pongle ;)

sry if i sound like someone's dad...

i guess you learn to value scool once you dont go there any more and work from 6 AM to 6 PM, only to be too tired to even start spending money in the evening. But noooo, scoool was so terrible, you actualy had to sit there and pretend to be awake. Oh the stress...

Im a teacher, that was a pretty good laugh

I wont preach the word of why school is the most important thing you'll ever do, lets just say it scares me that some adults still dont understand this

What scares me is how many people don't understand that teachers have quite possibly the most important job in the country, and yet are among the lowest paid professions... I'm speaking from the standpoint of an American here, I can't say how they're paid in other countries. But it's really sad how many teachers have to take a second job to make ends meet.

Well, being British, I can safely say that its the same in this country.

Teachers are paid poorly, have no power to discipline the kids at all, have to be physically abused by kids and cant retaliate because of the nanny state.

A relation of mine was a teacher, wanted to do it all his life.
He worked for one year and quit. He said that it was all he could do to even get the kids to turn up with the right books, and sit down, let alone teach them. He couldnt shout at them because it was "confrontational" and didnt reflect a "family environment", but they allowed the kids to vocally abuse the teachers.

They call the teachers by their first names now. No respect whatsoever.

I genuinely fear for my soon-to-be-born first child. I think I will teach it myself!

There are a lot more people doing that in this country lately. I think I can see why. All the teachers can use to keep discipline is time out... oi. My 2nd grade teacher had a big paddle... like a boat oar, with less handle. She used that sucker on me several times, and it helped keep me in line. We need corporal punishment back.

I'm an elementary school teacher myself by training (not currently working as one), and Laringar and Algamonn, I think teachers being underpaid and not getting much respect is a world problem. Here in Belgium, lots of outsiders focus on our vacation days. "Hey, you work from 8 to 4 and you have all school holidays for yourself, and you are still complaining?" These people seem to think we are only working when we are in school. Preparing classes trying to keep the kids interested in this day and age usually takes up an entire evening, and I only had some time for myself in the weekend (and not a lot, I have to add).
