Is there any Cartographer documentation?

I believe I have all the mods installed-- but they don't show up on the map.

There is no documentation that I see, including how to turn stuff on or off.

First of all, are all the Mods installed in the correct place? See the following:

World of Warcraft
- Interface
-- AddOns
--- Cartographer
--- Cartographer
--- Cartographer_Battlegrounds
--- Cartographer_Herblism

and so on.

If you installed in the correct place you will see a new button attached to your MiniMap that has an image of a bolt/screw which when pressed will bring up the "AddOn Configuration" menu (also known as the "Rock Menu"). Also when you press the "M" key to bring up your World Map you will see controls for Cartgrapher along the top of your World Map.

Many of the plug-ins are hidden (or Load on Demand) until you need/activate them. To access the options, either click the bolt icon to open the Rock Menu (choose the mod you want/need to tinker with from the drop down menu in the upper left corner) or the buttons along the top of your World Map.

One other thing, that bolt icon can be used to access the options menu for many Rock based (the underlying framework of Cartographer and several other mods) and Ace2 (another popular framework that many mods use) AddOns.

Yup. I got all that.

I've actually done quite a bit of playing around with it, and it has promise, although I can't write a standalone note.

Do you know where there is documentation?

I like documentation.

It's something like:
/note x y name

There's no user manual as such.

Okay, I'm having a hard time with Cartographer.

I come from MetaMap, and I'm trying hard to like Cartographer.

I downloaded the complete package from this site, but if I load ANY (and I do mean any) module of Cartographer other than the basic Cartographer, (Mining, Herbalism, and of the Ace2 modules) I get error after error.

Is there any guide to making these work? I would like to try them-- but so far, this program and the modules seems to be unusuable.

Firstly you should always get the latest Cartographer and it's plugin modules from Wowace (http://files.wowace.com). Update everything from there and see if you get the same problems. I get no errors from Carto so if you do it's most likely another mod interfering and we can try to work out which one.

Okay, let me look at that.

I haven't used that site, so the package I have is almost certainly different.

I'll take a thorough look at that package, replace mine with it, and check back.

Installed Cartographer, just the basic pack, and things were fine.

As soon as I added "Cartographer 1" by Ace, I got a string of errors when I tried to sign in.

I'm going to try it with Cartographer 1 on, and Cartographer off.

Okay, that worked. "Cartographer 1", by Ace, instead of Cartographer.

Proceeding to add ads.

Okay, results.

I downloaded everything that said "Cartographer" from the map section of the link you gave me. (thank you!)

Some of the pieces had been uploaded less than two minutes before I got them. :)

The results are simple.

When I load "Cartographer" or "Cartographer 1" by Ace alone, everything is fine.

When I load any combination of the ads, I get a long string of error messages.

If there's further troubleshooting I can do, I'll be happy to try. But tomorrow. I'm exhausted. :)

Goodnight, and thanks for your help!

You should not be running Cartographer 1 and Cartographer together. They are virtually the same thing but run on different libraries/frameworks. Basically, pick one and stick with it. Running both will make things explode :) .

If you're not sure, run Cartographer, that's the official version supported by the original author. Cartographer 1 is an offshoot by a few people who weren't happy with some of his development choices (back-end coding stuff I won't go into here).

You also don't need to run every single module, just pick the ones you actually want, it should be fairly obvious from the description. you can always add more later.

Yeah, I figured that out.

What wasn't so obvious, and what I still can't do, if make the Ace version, (Cartographer1) recognize any of the addons.

So I'll try getting the original (I've been using 1 by itself all day) to work with, as a start, the mining and mailbox ads.

Sucess!

I have the original, and Herbalism & Mining both installed!

Now I'm excited.

I'll check back in if I have more problems, but now I want to play around and see if I like this ad.

Thank you for your help!

Problem. [sigh...]

Herbalism is loaded, and checked in the Addons window, but it doesn't load. That is, there is no preference for it in the "Screw" menu.

And here I was so HAPPY... :undecided:

The settings for Cartographer Herbalism should show up as a section on the left within the Cartographer options on the Rock screen ("screw menu" as you call it)

er the only thing that happened after I installed the latest version of Cartgrapher was that bolt appeared which appears to be totally USELESS.

I do not have any buttons along my map and nothing has changed. I have been working for two days to get this thing to work. I am about ready to give up

Is there a way to delete the Cartographer databases for mining & Herbalism but still use the mod to map your own gathering locations?

(I don't want to have to manually remove each spot on the map to clean them off. I'm hoping there's a way to remove them en mass.)
