I'm thinking of trying out in the Arenas on my recently levelled 70 Holy Paladin, but I haven't got a clue where to start. What's best for a newbie, 5v5, 3v3 or 2v2? Is it even wise to PvP as Holy? How do I find an Arena team who's willing to take me on?
Any input about arenas would be much appreciated

To get a team, you get resilience, then do Holy Paladin LF Arena Team in trade channel. At least that's how they do it on my server, never seen any paladin do it two days in a row.
Though 5v5 is generally considered to be the paladins strongest team size as a healer, those teams require so many people it can be hard for an unserious team to do arenas every week.
2v2 is ofcourse the easiest to get people for, and as a beginner, team with anyone you're semisuccesfull with, as in don't downrank in any case. A lot of teams in the 1500-1600 are full merciless geared, so.. yeah. You will have a hard time competing unless you gear up for PvP healing ultra-fast and find a good and good-geared team-mate. Same with 3v3.
Don't forget to use JoJustice on any druid you can.
*And yes, PvP as holy will yield you more arena teams than searching as Retribution or Prot.

Go farm for honour.
Buy the full season 1 kit when it becomes available in a week.
You have little over 7 days to amass 75k honour and assorted marks.
Once that's done, go and grab a random MS warrior and pwn faces.

not only S1 gear, wrist/belt/feet as well as THE pvp trinket, a neck and a couple of rings are important...
Socket with resilience/stamina to start with, since you'll be the target of any burst team not containing a CC you can't dispell.

Just my advice here from a fellow holy pally.
Get a warrior and X class and do 3v3. Just keep it a simple pratice run to see how you feel about it. If your dieing to fast, heals are to small, your anticipation isent keen enough, you'll know what to do as far as if its a gear issue or a player issue or both. Personally i'd just on a team straight away assuming you have all blues. Haveing resilance gear is defently going to help, but dont let lack of it 0it discourage you because holy pallys do well even with out it (frankly imo its the dps classes and clotheys that need it most, hunters/wars/pallys/shammys seem to do ok with out it, or with it and pve spec).
One word of caution though, 1500's are really a imblanced ranking with non arena/pvp gear and just comeing into it. The problem is allways worse in the beginning of the season because some teams are just starting up, and 1500 ranking teams tend to be casual pvpers, but alot of raiders are around 1500-1800 so the gear wont allways be bad. IMO ranking doesnt really reall you anything about a match up untill after 1800.

Holy is king.
Farm honor.
5v5 is by far your best bracket, though 3v3 can work with sham/warr or druid/warr (though the second is incredibly dull). Pally/Warrior is amazingly weak in 2v2 now - the other warrior combos are almost all better at winning games (though pal/war can beat the other warrior teams, it can't handle casted dps).
Whoever said shamans and hunters do fine without resilience, what are you smoking?
The easiest way to succeed in arena as a holy paladin: find a Warrior, Elemental Shaman, Mage and UA Lock and assist train through everything.. it's really that easy til about 1800.
