I am new to wow. Prior I played Ultima Online, Asherons Call, and Dark Age of Camelot.

I still dont understand where the different factions come from. For example, Do horde and Alliance players both come from the same continent? Like diferent towns in Kalimdor or the Eastern kingdoms? I never wandered into a starter town in Kalimdor with just red alliance players. I am horde. Where are their starter towns?

Are we all just mixed into the same continents?

Hope this makes sense.

Hello!
Welcome to wow and incgamers!
I've never played those games but I'll try and answer your questions.

Ally and horde are on both continents. Difference races start in different places throughout each continent. On each continent there are provinces/states/territories. Some of them belong to just ally, to just horde, and some are contested- this comes into the game play.

On all servers, the provinces/states/territories that are souly faction ran, will come up as 'red' for the opposing faction. This means that you're able to walk around, quest, kill, etc in these areas, but it's essentially unsafe territory.

The contested areas (which come up yellow), are areas where both ally and horde quest in. In contested areas, there is almost always a ally and a horde city. Opposing factions will get attacked by NPC characters in these cities if they try to enter them. In some contested areas, there will be just ONE city where both factions reside (Such as booty bay in stv).

In contested (or yellow areas), player in PvP realms are automatically flagged as PvP. This means that players of opposing factions can automatically attack you. (This is different than the faction designated areas, where someone can of the oppisite faction can only attack you if you've flagged your PvP).

So, in the end, it's like a world where everyone resides. Some have their own terrirtories, other places you reside together! :)
