View Full Version : *Sigh* Which side to pick [Hordie, Ally]

I am lost in all of the confusion as to which side is better.

I know that both have the same skills, the same pretty much everything really...

But what is the one thing that is set aside between the 2?

Some prefs. that I look for when I play a MMORPG in ppl I play with

1.) Being respectful of everybody...(Including straight up noobs)

2.) Having self-control over what they say and their actions.

3.) Being a support to all players around you..even if they do stuff the way you dont [Use lvl guides, etc]

Probably the most important of all....

4.) What is the over-all skill level..

Now...reading other peoples posts..most people think I would fall into the Horde category...but I want to know YOUR specific experience along these lines of why you picked what you did for your "Home faction"

It doesn't matter. Everybody will tell you it does, but it doesn't.

It doesn't matter in the slightest. Pick the toon that you like the looks of. Nothing matters beyond that. Either faction, we're still just real people sitting at our keyboards.

idiots on both sides. no matter what side you pick, after 6 months you wish you would have picked the other side so that you can gank the people around you :)

For me it was purely based on looks, and i cant take tauren seriously otherwise I prob would have gone horde. Would have loved to play orc or undead, but those cows just ruined it for me. Even though I now have overcome it abit also have a lvl 70 horde char, it still kinda annoys me. Cows just dont fit in the world in my head.

If you bother to look past the "cow", they are a very deep and interesting race. And while I admit I don't really dig the female Tauren, I love the way male Tauren look. Darn powerful beings.

The sides are really the same, especially after they added Blood Elves. If people see a difference it is numbers based. There are more jerks on Alliance because there are more people. The percentages of jerks are probably the same.

That said, I like Horde. I like our cities and zones better, they aren't all pretty-pretty but they are more interesting to me.

I can't stand humans, the animations, the dances the jokes ... ugh!

I've played both sides and can't stand the people on either. I like horde better over all because they have cooler races and thats about it.

I prefer the Horde, but as said before, you'll find good people and bad people on both sides of the fence.

If you're looking for "nice" people, avoid PvP servers.

Hmm powerful... I just think its too much. Theyre too big, looks more clumsy than powerful to me. Maybe if they got toned down abit i could see past the cows, I really tried but i just cant.

1.) Being respectful of everybody...(Including straight up noobs)

You're going to find people on both sides that are willing to help you out, and at the same time, put you down for just being new. There's always both in every bunch.

2.) Having self-control over what they say and their actions.

Same as number one. You'll have mature players, and immature players.

3.) Being a support to all players around you..even if they do stuff the way you dont [Use lvl guides, etc]

Once again, it's the same on both sides. With such a range of ages, sexes, personality types, you're going to get a mix of the good, the bad, and the down right fugly.

4.) What is the over-all skill level..

You'll find the skill level is mixed for both sides. You'll find good players, and bad players.

My suggestion is that you look at the classes, races, and starting areas. Try horde on one server and ally on another.

I think the most important thing for you to do is to find a guild that matches your standards. Guilds are where you're going to be able to find the social aspect, the in game help, and just the overall goodness that comes from WoW. You guild really makes your game, not so much your faction :)

Yup, exactly what the person above me said. Find a guild that you think have the same morality about the game and you will have fun!

QFT!!!!!! ROFLMAO

I was just saying this last night lol I was picking up feathers in Hinterland for a quest and after I cleared these mobs this dude runs up on his mount and steals it as I yell HEY!!!! I kept clicking pyroblast over and over and over just hoping the client would screw up and actually let me lol. No dice.

OP - just pick what you like the best in looks - there are some racials that are helpful with certain classes IMO but that's only a small part of the big picture.

I picked Horde because all of my RL friends played Horde. Now that I've switched servers, I still play Horde but I did just roll an Alli just to see what it was like.

Bovine-Americans if you please.... "cows" went out in the 70's man. There are only 3 reasons to pick one side over the other
1. Lore
are you a fan of the history of the warcraft universe and want to play on a particular characters side

2. Looks
Blood elf and night elf hotness? Gnome sillyness? Undead kick-assery? all up to you

3. Friends already playing.
you'll want to play the same side as your friends.... usually

I understand what you guys are saying...but it wasnt quite the answer I was looking for : )

All my friends play alliance...and really enjoy the look of stormwind...but when i started my blood elf...i was widely accepted as a obvious ner-comer..

However on the same server (Normal server) the Alliance were stuck up...(excuse me) but they were just flat out rude idiots who need to have some more respect...

The ONLY reason why i still play alliance is 2 big reasons....

1.) If I wanted help from friends, I would need to pick alliance

2.) I dont like the way horde look...and really how "Un-Organized" thier big citites are...

Although even my own Alliance Guildies say Horde are a little nice...( I totally agree )

_________

So...I guess I am sticking with alliance even though "I love the ""Cows"" "

I think Tauren are hot...: )

Ty guys : > )

Calling a Tauren a cow, is a lot like calling a Minotaur one. Only safe way to do so is by having at least a 600 meter headstart.

Though, I do have to admit that my Forsaken characters tend to be in the habit of calling NPC Tauren cows (especially during escort missions), then again, being sociable and friendly tends to atrophy when you're dead.. or undead.. or not quite living or however you want to describe them.

You will find that this varies from day to day as well. Some days you'll ask for directions and catch all kinds of flack in general chat. Other days you get 3 people all answering you at once, then proceeding to argue over the accuracy of the other person's response.

twoflower is right, no matter what you roll, you'll want to kill some of your own faction sooner or later.

I had the same experince as darkdrifter the other day with some jerk stealing my herbs after I cleared a path through the mobs to get to them. Come to think of it, he and I are on the same server, it could have been the same idiot. I thought about telling him off, but instead I just laughed at him when he took 3 adds and died about 30 seconds later...that's instant karma for you.

I am sticking with alliance. You guys are right, either way, on all servers, on all faction there are gonna be jerks. Its unavoidable.

Now my next problem is leveling. I use guides (They work, and here recently as I start to "Zoom" past my friends, even though they are more experienced then me, they are starting to give me crap about it, so plz, plz, I know most people "Hate" guides, but I enjoy using. End of Discussion.)

I would like to thank you all for helping me make this decision.

Threads don't get closed unless the discussion is unsalvageably going off-topic and/or ends up as a flamefest.

SSomeone else might come by and offer a brand new angle. Though I think the important stuff has been said.

2.) I dont like the way horde look...and really how "Un-Organized" thier big citites are...

I wanted to comment on the 2nd part:
Thunder Bluff: My favorite city. Everything I need for crafting is located on the "lowest" tier, where the bank + innkeeper + guild vault + auction house is, tradeskill vendors, reagent vendors, merchants with repair support, blacksmithing facilities and mining trainers just next door, and even a small pond to fish... the battleground/arena npc's are a short walk away across a rope bridge..
The "middle" tier of the city contains the other crafting trainers: leatherworking+tailor in same tent, enchanter & alchemist next to those, and herbalist too...
And the "top" tier of the city has the cooking & fishing trainers, along with the house of the big chief himself.
If you spend a minute to familiarize yourself with the place, you'll see that the layout is actually rather simple & logical, most things are linked together, and the most frequently used 'utilties' are at the same tier.
And the city itself is so peaceful looking... and best of all:
NO GOLD SELLER SPAM! (a big reason I hate going into Orgrimmar these days)

The only thing you don't find in TB is warlock, paladin & jewelcrafting trainers.

On the other hand.. Undercity. Split in 4 quarters, one focused on War (warrior trainers + blacksmithing), one on Rogues (leatherworking, no hunter trainer), one on Magic (mage + warlock trainers, tailors & enchanters), and Healers (priest + alchemy + first aid).
Again, there is logic to the layout of the city, classes & professions are linked logically together, and the utilities are all located in the middle.
Downside: the city itself takes a while to travel around (pun intended).

Orgrimmar & Silvermoon City feature similar designs to some extent too, but the layouts are a bit different, Org in particular takes time to learn where everything is located due to how sprawling it is.
But there is a method to the madness there...

Or until someone goes off-topic... Oh, wait.

I like peanut butter and pickle sandwiches...:afro:

To echo the poster above me, I think once I got the hang of navigating Undercity, I found it compact and well organized. All it needs is some more mailboxes. Ironforge is pretty easy to get around in too.
