its over a year now since BC was released, and only a handful of people got the collectors edition as there was apparantly "limited stock" personally i didnt order one however on the uk website of the game store GAME it has the collectors edition advertised for £85 with a strategy guide and game card.

i dont see why you would want to buy it now but some people might who missed out. but i just cant understand why they said limited stock and then make it available a year later, knowing Wotlk is coming shortly.

thoughts?

Because I believe you can upgrade to the collector's edition version, which basically means you get a mini-pet, and a few goodies in the box. Personally, I have both CE's, and will have the WotlK one too.

You can't. Upgrade, that is. Unless they've changed things since, it was stated at the time that if you added a standard version of Burning Crusade to your account, you would not then be able to add a collector's edition at a later date.

I have both CEs as well, and I had to wait nearly a week for my BC one, so I missed most of the launch stuff. Hope that doesn't happen with WotLK.

Actually, shortly after they launched Burning Crusade, there was a large uproar of people who, out of desperation, bought the standard game and the CE, the standard box arrived first, they installed it, but couldn't install the CE. Blizzard changed their policy on it.... I think about a month after TBC launched, and let people be able to upgrade from regular to CE.

Ah, that's handy. I do remember the uproar, I must've stopped monitoring the websites before the change occurred. Hope the policy carries over to WotLK from the start -- for me, at least, it'd be worthwhile to grab a cheap copy in town on release day and then upgrade to the CE when it arrives.

And in light of that, I don't quite catch the OP's point. Maybe I'm misreading it. Why would WotLK coming out shortly make a difference to the value of a BC CE? It's not like the WotLK CE will contain the features of the previous two -- if you want those pets, and the physical materials like the art book, you're still going to want a BC CE and/or a WoW CE. If you don't want those things, the timing of WotLK's release as compared to the availability of the BC CE remains irrelevant.

true enough. Honestly, I like the CE's because of the behind-the-scenes DVDs, the DVD installer disc, and the soundtrack CDs. The mini-pet is cool too, but it is of lesser value to me.

Quoted for Truth :D

It's the art books that sucker me into buying the CEs. The pets are adorable (although I forget to get one of them out of most of the time) and the DVD installer is a godsend every time my computer goes fubar, but the art books... yum. There were some wonderfully alien-looking pieces in the BC one.

The art books are good. I had the first one signed by the dev team at BlizzCon '05.

They were never in short supply at our Best Buy. There were at least 6 of them on the shelves for nearly 2 months starting at least a few days after release.

(we go every Tuesday to check the new DvD's)
