I've heard alot of stuff on the Official WoW forums about how the Death Knight class is going to be attainable, but I'm not sure that I rely on them.

Has Blizzard announced anything on how the Death Knight class is going to be attainable? If so, I would like to know.

Thanks in advance.

From what I understand, once you have a level 80 character, you will be able to create a death knight. It will start out at level 55-60 and will be a separate character from your main.

Nothing specific yet. What is sort of known, is that the Death Knight will need to be "unlocked", apparently, per server (but it might be per account). The Death Knight will start at a relatively higher level (the estimate is level 55 - 70), and it seems that it will be the same level you need to have a character to be able to unlock the Death Knight (with the idea being that if it requires a level 60 to unlock it, you can continue with that level 60, and/or play a level 60 Death Knight.

Blizzard's people did say they don't want it to require someone to get to level 80 in order to make a Death Knight. Most of this information can be found in the news archive of this site, but might take a bit of searching.

I hope they give us one more character slot. I will have to sacrifice my bank alt if they do not.

im pretty sure they have said we wont be getting a extra character slot, looks like your gonna have to delete your least player character.

There was a blue-post sometime ago that said they weren't leaning towards converting the unlocking char into the deathknight. Something about not making people give up their mains or grind alts just to make a dk

They stated at Blizzcon that you would not convert your existing toon into a DK but unlock the ability to create one at a fairly high level. The rest seems in flux.I've heard that you will need to be 80 to unlock the DK, that you will be able to do it sooner, etc.

I doubt that they'll give people 70 or below the ability to create a death knight. It would be a good way to ease the class in... you have to be 7x or 80, so people will level, then do the quest chain (it seems fairly certain it will be a chain), then get DK at some high level.

In any case, you can't do anything until WotLK ships so.. /shrug.

Yeah, it's pretty much all speculation right now. There have been some hints, but it's possible that Blizz has not even decided fully exactly how it's going to work. And if they have, they certainly aren't sharing the information with the rest of us.

At level 80 you will be able to start, and complete a long quest line that allows the unlocking* of a DK at your char screen.

This does not sacrifice any of your existing char.

You will NOT get extra char slots (still capped at 10) for the addition of this char.

AT THIS TIME the DK is not server locked, meaning you can place him anywhere you wish after you create him/her the FIRST time.

He will be a tanking/ot class if you played everquest you are familiar with a shadowknight..same concept.

He will use runes on his weapons for ability. He will be a hero class, capable and able to overpower other classes. However a DK will be MUCH more difficult to play.

He will be able to summon undead to do battle for him.

The greatest speculation is the starting level of the char. Initially stated to be level 55, it is not commonly thought that the DK will start at 65. A few factors contribute to this.

The DK will gear with plate(and some mail) that has +spell dmg, crit etc.. this gear is not widely available pre-bc. The necessity of requiring new DK's to level from 55-58 in old world content was initially considered only as a *learning phase for someone playing the char. You would be overpowering the old world content while learning to play your new hero class.

However, as of late cold water has been thrown on this suggestion. Level 65 is thought to be the starting level, level 61 has also been thrown about. The reasons are easy to see. Level 65 is the midpoint for tbc content, only a few levels from kara attunement and able to do a good amount of instances and quest in several zones.

61 is being considered as it will give char time to learn as one would level to 70.

The rumor also floating around is that this char will come with things you would expect a hero to have.

A starting armor set and weapons.

Max first aid skill and an epic ground mount (if starting at 61).

No, I can't link to any of this.

Yes, I will have a beta key to WotLK as soon as it launches and i'll report my true in game findings with SS and detailed info. (might take me a bit to get to 80) i'm trying to level a mage to 70 so that I can get to 80 quickly.

Without sounding like a twat or being provocative I have to say that it is not confirmed that you have to be level 80. at least thats what it says in the WotLK forums. Surely it would have been change in the info thread if it was wrong?

In the future I won't post any upcoming info here unless it is confirmed and widely known.

It will be 100% concrete blue post linkable proof before I speak a word of it.

Also, there is an article on this site:

Death Knight Fact Sheet (http://wow.incgamers.com/forums/vbarticles.php?do=article&articleid=16)

I would strongly suggest that anyone wanting to post speculations on the Death Knight, to first check these links. Some of the older articles/interviews/etc have information which had changed in later ones. Things like the level 80 requirement have been changed. This is information straight from wow.incgamers.com, information posted in the news and/or articles of this very site. Most of which has links to take you to where the information came from, so follow those, and see it "from the horse's mouth". Then make your decisions.

Don't worry about it, not been around for a while (bot ingame or forums) waging my bets on WotLK though if I can immediately become a DK it might give me the inclination to get back into WoW.
