What's the best race in WoW?

Got a criteria to got by? Classes matter more than race in the long run, and certain races lend themselves better to certain classes than others.

There is no best, if there was everyone would be the same thing. It's all pretty well balanced so there are no "best" classes or races. They're just different.

Thanks for the info. I guess by best I meant, what race can give me the most options for playing any class. Basically me and my friends are going to pick our races and then we use a random number generator to randomly assign our classes. I was wondering what race was the best in a "jack of all trades" sense so that I'm not stuck with a race that is only good for casting or whatever. If there is no "best race" are there ones I should avoid?

Every race differs in look and very minor thing as racial trait. None of these should affect the class badly. I pick race based upon what I want to look at for the whole game, and the pick a race for what I want to play.

Go Ahead, do the random number generator to pick a race first too :) Don't forget that one race can select a limited number of class.

Enjoy

Don't forget that one race can select a limited number of class.

This is why I'd advise to roll for the class first, and then pick a race. Otherwise you'll end up with a lot of you saying, "oh drat, the race I picked can't choose the class that was randomly decided for me".

And if this would mean that the whole random factor would be made moot since people can still choose which race is best for that specific class, then simply roll a d6/d8 (whatever the number of races that can have that class) to randomly choose the class, too. :p

I suggest collectively choosing the race (through discussion or random rolling) and THEN seperately choosing your class.

Also, try not to all be pure dps. You'll be glad to have one tank and one healer for those extra tough challenges. It'd also let you do instances without needing to be looking for a tank or healer. Everyone can dps as well too, even a tank class (when specced as a hybrid).

I could never kill a gnome in PvP. They're soooooooooooooooooo cute!

And I would say race matters the most depending on the class you pick. Otherwise, I'd say pick the one you like the most :)

On the other hand, I'll pick out a gnome in PvP to kill if I have a choice. :D

Seriously, I agree -- if you're going to go random, pick the class and then random the race. It makes more sense.

I understand what you are trying to do and honestly the best suggestion here is have a group of classes you can choose via the random dice roll and then pick whatever race you want that is able to have that class.

Of course - if you are wanting to all start in the same area you may want to either a) all choose human as they get a wide variety of classes to pick from or b) choose dwarfs and gnomes as they share the starting area. Not sure which races you would choose on horde side though.

Not sure which races you would choose on horde side though.

You could either go for Orc/Troll, as they share the same starting area just like Dwarf/Gnome does.. or go for Undead/BElf, since their capital cities are linked through a teleport stone - then you could reach eachother by, say, level 7/8.
