Which is the best race to start off as and y?
What is the most powerful class in the game?(Ex. Mage,Warrior..etc)
About how long does it take to level from 1-60?
Can certain races/classes use weapons that others cant?

Best race will be tied to a class. Each race has racials bonusses, and some of these go well together with a certain class. 5% hp for a tauren for example makes a nice tank. Blood Fury Attack Power boost for an orc makes a nice DPS or PvP warrior. And so on. There aren`t any game breaking racial traits.
In terms of PvP many explain it with the rock paper scissors models. One class beats another which then again beats another that beats the first class. It`s not a precise description though, as it isn`t that well balanced. A warlock maybe, if we call him scissors. A rogue is the rock to him, and then everybody else is paper... More or less. But lock is always a strong PvP char. Then we have seen though different arena seasons flavor of the months classes.
In season one the paladin was the healing king. OMG plate and shield and healing and the whining was great. Then ppl started manaburning the pala. That made way for the socalled Disc Priest, which is now recognised as very strong. The healer regarded atm as "best" is however the restoration druid because he has got some great versatility. And so it goes on, nerfs and buffs from Blizz also factoring in.
A recent patch boosted exp from quests 1-60, and made them easier at the same time. So as WoW before was regarded as casual levelling it is even more so now. Effective played time varies but i´t'll take you a month or two IRL. Can be done much quicker if you`ve made your mind up to do that.
All classes have restrictions as to what weapons they can use. The most versatile for example, the warrior, cannot use wands.

Woo, Ohio people. :D
Anyway, I'm not as much of an expert on here as some others I'm sure are, but I'd say (COP-OUT ANSWER YAY) that it depends on who's playing it. I'd imagine some people are just naturally better casters, some understand what it takes to be a melee fighter better, all that, you know? And it probably has a lot to do with what class you'd have the most fun with. For some reason I just never wanted to be a lock. At all. Ever. I can't imagine forcing myself to play a class I didn't like.
Nothing's set in stone, if you make something and don't feel comfortable with it - new character, easy. :D

In short: They are all good enough to not have one stick out (much), find what's fun for you as that will be what keeps you playing.
You like hitting things in the face? Warrior, Rogue, Druid, Shaman, Paladin
Especially Warriors and Rogues who seem to have a love affair with their weapons
You like casting from afar with magic? Mage, Warlock, Shaman, Druid, Priest
You like casting from afar with bows/guns/crossbows? Hunter
You like being very tough? Warrior, Paladin, Druid
You like having a pet to take the hits for you and help you out? Hunter, Warlock, (Mage can have a pet for like 40 seconds every 2 minutes, so doesn't REALLY count)
You like being able to heal? Priest, Druid, Shaman, Paladin
Mind you, classes that seem to be able to only do one thing typically do that VERY well (rogue, mage for instance). Classes that seem to be able to do everything (Druid and Shaman) are typically not AS great as the specific classes, but can get very close when they specialize.
So it all balances out.
Example:
I play a Druid. I specialized in doing damage up close and being able to take a lot of hits (Feral), so I have to live with the following shortcomings:
- If I need to I can heal myself in combat, but 3 to 4 full heals while in my feral gear and I'm almost drained of mana, so I have to be sparse
- If I need to be a dedicated healer for a group I can switch gear and do adequate. I come up short on the very hard stuff.
- If I need to do damage from afar, I CAN, but again, I'll be drained very fast. It's better in my healer gear (which boosts damage from far a bit as well), but not as great as can be.
Now a rogue can go full on to do damage from up close since he doesn't HAVE any other roles to specialize in. He still can enhance different playstyles (assasination, combat, sublety) but they essentially all help him do more damage.
So while my feral druid will be able to get very good in doing damage, he'll never be as good as a rogue in same level of gear. Because no matter what, when stuff gets ugly the druid can always shift into caster form and heal himself. The rogue can't. The best he can do is Vanish and try again or stun his opponent long enough to bandage himself. So the rogue needs to get it done by simply killing faster.
That said, if you can't decide, go for a druid . As you see, they can do nearly anything. The first 20 levels WILL be tougher though since you'll still be laying the foundations of the different aspect of the class. You can really only decide at L28-L30 once Cat Form has gotten some abilities and you get accustomed to the stealthing of it.
One more thing: If you chose a Warrior I suggest being VERY stingy with your cash since they are very dependent on the quality of their gear. A rogue can do fine with crap for gear and 2 great daggers, but a warrior depends on having a lot of health and armor and a lot of strength.

Try the druid even though you will hate it the first 20 levels. Try an undead warlock for 12-13(2 after you get void walker). Try a palidin and a rogue. come back and tell us what you liked and disliked. I love undead warlocks(brains). I also have friends who hate them(dorks). They love warriors and rogues of all the silly things. There is too much variety in wow to give specific advice until you have played a while. There are usually more alliance and horde does a little better on average in the battle grounds. That is not a har and fast rule though. Oh and pick a medium pop server not a low or high pop server. If you are on nordrasil as the horde whisper wyren or kurushio if you need any help. good luck

This is exactly right.
I like the druid a lot, but that is really a personal choice. It's best to try out a number of different classes to see what you like. It doesn't take that long to get through the first 20 levels, and that is usually enough to tell you if you want to continue playing that toon or not.
There is a group of us on Zul'jin, Horde side, if you want to join up. Send me a pst in-game.

with a few exceptions, they're more like one night stands than love affairs. we rogues have to change our weapons so often up until level 60 or so, unless we're lucky enough to get something that's OP'd for our level. it's kinda sad saying goodbye to Slicy and Stabby though:cry:

First off reading the manual will help with some of these questions or worldofwarcraft.com the official Blizzard webiste... it's got great information for all players lvl 1-80... :)
Horde or Alliance? Pick one and you can't communicate with the other in that character... and on PvP servers you can only play as one group... PvE and RP can choose either at anytime with their character...
Next... Race... Whatever you think looks cool... If you like it from the beginning then that's the race you should start off with... If you hate it by the time you hit lvl 20 or so then you can always create another character...
The most powerful class? Most powerful at what... this isn't like Everquest or Ultima Online where mages are the absolute most powerful class ever...
What do you want to do? Melee (close combat)? Warriors, Paladins, & Rogues excel and Druids and Shamans are hybrid classes that can specialize in melee
Magical fighting? Mages, Priests, Warlocks, Shamans, and Druids all can excel in dealing extreme magical ranged damage but they cannot be the focus of an enemies attacks for long...
Ranged? Hunter... Bows & Guns... they hit from afar and they really hurt... Plus they get a pet to help them... (So do warlocks)
So there is no MOST powerful class ever made ever ever ever... (no matter how some people try and sell it)... Look on the website and see what you like then pick....
1-60? Depends... if you play 2-3hrs every day you can level more than once a day from level 1-20... after that once a day from level 20-40 or so... and then 40 once every couple of days like maybe every 2... if you only play 2 hrs a day...
Once you get the hang of it (if your a decent player) you can hit lvl 20 in 2 days.... and level 2 times a day if you have time and manage your lvling well... Most people will hit 60 within a month if they play casually...
Weapons... depends on the class... again read the manual or go to worldofwarcraft.com
Warriors can use virtually every weapon but can't cast spells...
Mages can only use a couple of weapons but have a ton of spells... if that helps?
