Hey,

I have played some WoW on private servers and now I want to start the real thing. I just don't know which server to pick. There are so many. I'd like a PVP server though. Roleplaying doesn't interest me. I'd also like to be a in a good and competitive battlegroup with other servers. Furthermore I'd like it to be a busy server.

Can anyone recommend me any good servers?

Btw I'm form Europe.

Since we see this question about every 2 days or so, maybe someone (not me) could make a post which could be stickied regarding how to choose a server?

I'd like to read something like that.

I have just stolen this from a thread by Aerath made a long time ago and I hope he wont mind me using this :)

What Server should I pick ?

In short:

PvE: You won't get any 'accidental' Player vs Player action. This does make the world safer, but might also take away from some of the excitement when moving into a contested zone. Some people argue it might be a smart choice to start here initially as it will let you get a taste of the game first without getting 'disturbed' by evil (Allies/Horde).

PvP: The gaming experience can be much more intense when you see that dreaded "The Zone You're In/Heading To Is Under Attack" pop up in your chatlog. However, truth be told, both sides have a fairly safe leveling zone for the first 20 or so levels, meaning you won't instantly run into lvl 60 characters trying to take down the newbies. Battlegrounds tend to be more active on these server as well, but that's a fairly generic sweeping statement which needn't necessarily hold true.

RP: Use either the PvE or the PvP rule-set. Tends to draw a slightly more mature crowd and you might even find some actual Roleplaying. Note, Lewtwhore, Roflcopter or a similar name will likely get you reported on a server of this kind.

It is an old thread but the basics are still there.

Take your recommended server - choose either pvp or pve - then play for a bit - do a who for each major city - look at the AH - go online and google "wow server census" for horde / alliance numbers per server. If you don't like the one you pick create another character on a different realm and repeat the process - you can have 50 characters (iirc) for your one $15 a month payment (10 per server).

If you decide to go with a PvE server, try Lightbringer - quite some fellow Dutchmen there (and three guilds that I know of are Dutch, going by their name). Unless you seek to avoid them, that is. ^^
