View Full Version : Hard time picking a side and/or class?

I'm just curious on who else is with me in having a hell of a time even deciding on a side (alliance/horde) and/or a class.

I redownloaded WoW, and I'm downloading the latest patch as we speak.

My problem right now? I can't decide what class.

I'm the type who wants to spend my time on one - because in about 4 months my first child will be here, and at that point I'm not really going to be playing anymore. So I don't want to spend all my time in the same zones leveling up a few different classes.

Then I always tend to get bored with a class around 20 or so. Perhaps it's that I feel rather strong until the 20's, and then I hit zones that make my class feel week (which happened with my Mage, Druid, and Warrior). The ones I do stick out (like my Hunter and Priest) I just start to get tired of their flaws.

I wish this game had a "create a class" where I could pick skill sets as I leveled and basically create my own class based on what I want - instead of being stuck with what Blizzard thinks each class should be.

Anyway - anyone have a hell of a time ever settling on a specific class?

I'm still trying to figure out what to pick right now, when the patch is downloading... I want to get him/her as high as I can - I just need to pick the right character that I'll stick with (I do lose interest with things pretty quickly at times).

As for picking sides - I love Horde... But I've leveled up so many horde characters that when I get to the Barrens, I want to shoot myself in the face. It seems to be the only option for me to level, though. I can only get to a certain point in the Undead area - and the other races all have The Barrens as their leveling zone for the 16-2x period.

When I try Alliance, I tend to get tired of it pretty quickly. Not sure why - but it seems all the servers I've tried either have a much poorer AH (in that items sell for way cheaper - like on Horde side Copper Bars go for 2G, and when I switch to Alliance, it's more like 50s), or I just get tired of being Alliance, since I like Horde better.

I do love the game - I just have a hard time, since I'm more used to games in which I can make whatever class I want, and go where I want (like Morrowind)...

I think I just need to find that class and stick with it.

I've had a priest to 60 and got tired of it. He could kill ok in Shadow, but his spell variety got boring. There aren't many spells for fighting he'd use... Whereas a mage has tons - but I got tired of sitting and drinking after every 2nd mob, and I felt really weak at the 20ish point...

Ahh well... I'll end this rant for the sake of everyone's sanity.

Roll a Blood Elf. You can level in their starting areas from 1 to 22 without ever setting foot in Durotar or Barrens.

Draenei area is good up to level 20. Then you do a few quests in Darkshore, then on to Ashenvale.

I also love Horde and have found that Draenei is the only Alliance race I like. Maybe it's because they are ugly? lol
They have access to the best classes and also have some great racials as well. I rolled a Draenei hunter and found him practically unstoppable as a beast master with mend pet and the racial heal.

Newcomer forum :)

There are 9 classes and 10 races. Be prepared for 25 different answers.

Oddly those are the two classes I like the most. Sure they have flaws but so do all the classes. I ran into a similar problem like you in that I would get a druid or warrior or pally to level 25-30 and get increasingly bored of him eventually stopping altogether. I am leveling up a shadow priest right now and having a great time.

And I like you hate the barrens so switched over to alliance but the other idea of starting a blood elf is good or take whatever race you start with and make the trek over to the undead starting area or BE land.

Is there no Zone with quests for horde in the 20's besides The Barrens?

I thought that as with alliance, there's always an equal level zone in The Eastern Kingdoms and in Kalimdor.

Obviously that would be Hillsbrad

Stonetalon Mountains, Hillsbrad Foothills, Ashenvale. In the later 20s, Thousand Needles also offer a few options.

If you get bored around level 20, then I suggest that you make one of every race and take it to level 20. Then, if you're still bored, you can make one of every possible combination of race and class, and level all of them to 20. If that still hasn't given you enough motivation to choose one and stick with it, try adding gender to the race/class variables. That should keep you busy for awhile.
