Wow. Sad. :(
I think his favorite movie of mine was Brokeback. .some of his best acting, IMO. I didn't really care of him until then. :(

He's actually been in alot, and I was very interested in seeing his take on the Joker in "The Dark Knight".
He was a very good actor and if it is drug use.....simply a stupid, stupid, waste.

Damn...I tell myself I shouldn't care about celebrities more than any other stranger off the street, but that still sucks. I liked him in A Knight's Tale, can't believe that was 7 years ago.

The news have just started reporting this as a suicide. Shame, as I was really looking forward to "The Dark Knight" and it's release will now get pushed back.
He was superb as Skip in "Lords of Dogtown" and anyone who has seen "Dogtown and Z-boys" will know how well he pulled off the mans attitude (he even got the voice perfect).
Ah well, another sad story from Hollywood.

My first question was, "They did finish filming the new Batman right?"

Yes they did.
On a side note.... I just seen the first footage of the new Star Trek movie on Film 2008 (about 20 seconds of the Enterprise being built)....looks good.

Latest reports here are that there were prescription pills in his room, but no note. Suicide is unlikely, probably a terrible accident.
Just want to say how mortified I am, what a great actor, my favourite film of his was A Knight's Tale.
And contrary to rgirty's comment, you can post links, just make sure there's no gold ads on the page you link to

geez, wow, and he has a 2 year old daughter. that's just sad. he was just getting an amazing long career started. what a loss. it's always sad to lose one of the quiet, humble people in hollywood.

I don't usually pay any attention to celebrity issues, but this one actually bums me out a bit. He seemed like such a class guy, and I really enjoyed him as an actor.

From the various articles I've read, I'm ended up with the following hypothesis.
He was suffering from insomnia, apparently because of his work of trying to crawl into the Joker's head for the Dark Knight. He made comments about only getting 2 hours sleep at times. And that the sleeping pills he got proscribed only tended to work for about an hour.
Most likely? Considering shooting for that movie is over. Completely exhausted, took some pills to get some rest, but it turned out to be a couple of pills too many. Or in short, accidental OD as opposed to a suicide.
Autopsy is inconclusive at this point, final results will be known in 10 days.

I dont think it was on od i think it was just a bad combo of all the drugs he was taking

And John Gibson, Fox New at its best, made jokes about him and brokeback mountain. Conservatives with Class.

No one thinks it might have been murder?

i think suspecting murder is a bit paranoid at this point. there are no signs that it was an intentional death.

No but apparently he has the stupidest housekeeper ever. Apparently it required far too much throught to call 911, so she wasted 9 minutes calling the previous caller, Mary Kate Olsen.
Stupidity FTW.

His resume (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005132/).
First time I saw him was Roar, from there the Patriot.
From everything I've heard a fairly normal chap, who just happened to be an actor and didn't let the fame go to his head.
who heath ledger?
He was an actor and was in movies such as "10 Things I Hate About You", "A Knight's Tale" and "Monster's Ball" and also played the lead in a movie called Brokeback Mountain for which he was nominated for an Oscar.

And the tox report is in. Accidental OD (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080206/ap_on_en_mo/heath_ledger). Though not one pill too many as I initially surmised, but simply a case of pills not mixing very well together.

You don't "accidentally" OD on that many pills. His life sucked and he killed himself. Another dope fiend offs himself. It's a pity for his kid but that's all.

I'm guessing you didn't read the article very well (if at all). It does state that none of the medications were taken in excess. It was the interaction between the medications that killed him. There are certainly valid reasons to be on those medications; I've been on four of the pills mentioned, although not simultaneously.
Still, you gotta love forum "armchair doctors". I'm sure your medical degree's in the post.

His marriage had collapsed (something I've very familiar with)
He was a acknowledged drunk and not seeking help for it
His life was a total mess (again something I know a bit about)
He was taking a lot of medicines
It's not hard to see what happened.

You most certainly can overdose on a cocktail of prescribed drugs. There's no suggestion in the medical reports to suggest he took his own life.

Of course not, that would sully the good name of one of Hollyweird's golden children.
EDIT:
What I'm getting at is the image Hollyweird has projected for him isn't reality. It's smoke and mirrors. Look through the smokescreen.

You can most certainly OD on prescription drugs, particularly by combining two that don't belong together. I'm not saying that is what happened, because I don't know, and neither do you. We don't have any idea whether his public image was accurate or not.
Either way, it is still tragic. He left a child without a father.
